Blaine knocked tentatively on the door of the apartment number Kurt had given to him. After meeting over the summer and going on a few dates alone and two with Max in tow. Kurt had invited Blaine over to his apartment to have lunch with him. He'd assumed Max would be there too.
The door opened only a bit, with an eye peaking out.
"Shit!" He heard from behind the door. "I mean, oops! I mean oh my god. Blaine. I am so sorry I totally forgot you were coming over today and Max is running a fever and-" The door opened a bit wider. "I mean come in but-"
"Kurt it's no big deal." He entered the apartment, he smiled at how tidy the apartment still was even when Kurt seemed so overwhelmed.
"Oh god." He ran his hands through his already toustled hair. "I can't believe I forgot. This is the worst I-"
"Daddy?" A tiny raspy voice came from behind him. He turned to see his three year old standing at the end of the hall, thumb in his mouth, his favorite stuffed animal Froggy hanging in his other hand.
"Hi baby." He immediately left Blaine's side to crouch down to the little boy's level. "You feeling any better?"
"Uh-Uh." He shook his head. "My froat hurts." He said, Kurt could hear the tears in his voice. Max was always a tough kid, but when he was sick, that was out the window and the tears came all the time.
"Don't cry baby.." He pulled the little boy into his chest, pressing a gentle hand on his forehead in the process. He frowned. "You still have a fever too, but we can't give you anymore medicine for a little bit cause there hasn't been enough time since the last time I gave you some."
Max whimpered into his dad's shirt. Kurt picked him up, tiny legs automatically wrapped around his waist. Kurt carried him over to the couch sitting down with him. Blaine couldn't hear the conversation from where he was standing, but he heard Kurt ask Max a question and the little boy nodded into his chest. He smiled to himself watching the interaction between the two. Max let go of his grip on his daddy and Kurt sent a sorry smile over to Blaine. Blaine returned his smile with a shrug of his shoulders and a sincere grin.
Blaine walked over to the couch and sat at the opposite end of Max. Max was already curled into a ball at the end of the couch with his stuffed frog. Kurt entered the living room area again with a DVD in his hand. He put it in the DVD player without a second motion. He walked back over to the couch and pulled his small son into his lap while using the remote to skip through previews. Blaine's eyes were trained on Kurt as he kept his eyes moving from the TV screen then back to Max. He watched his blue-grey eyes with wonder.
He looked up at the screen as the beginning of the movie Kurt had put in began. His eyebrows raised as he looked over at Kurt.
"I can explain." He laughed.
"That's good." Blaine looked over at Max to see his eyes already drooping again, but his little fingers were tapping to the beat of the opening music from RENT on his young Dad's chest.
"When we first moved in here about a year ago I didn't have cable, and not very many DVD's either, so if I was working on homework or anything, I'd have it on as background noise, and he watched it alot. I mean it goes over his head." He chuckled. "And now everytime he's sick he wants to watch the 'singing people movie'." Blaine smiled. "But I'm afraid he's gonna get in trouble when he's in school and they ask him what his favorite movie is."
Blaine nodded in response. He looked down to see if Max was asleep. He assumed he was when his thumb wasn't in his mouth anymore and his tiny mouth was open and small snore like sounds were coming from him. He moved himself more towards the middle of the couch, putting his arm around Kurt's shoulder. He pulled the brunette in towards him.
"I know this wasn't the plan for today. But thank you for having me over." He smiled as Max burried himself further into Kurt's chest.
"I'll definitely have to repay you with a fantastic date for just the two of us." He assured.
"This is no problem Kurt. This is one of the best dates I've been on in a long time."
"My God. You must have been on some horrible dates."
"Or maybe I'm just that into you." He said quietly. Kurt turned quickly to face him.
Max whined in his arms. He looked down at the small boy and played with his hair for a moment. He looked back up to see Blaine closer to him. Blaine wasn't sure which one of them moved in first, but before he could think about it there mouths were connected in a gentle kiss. They pulled apart, both of their faces tinted pink with blushes.
"Oh wow..I-" Kurt started.
"Shhh.." Blaine motioned to the TV with a smile. "You don't have to say anything. Just watch Max's movie." Kurt giggled, nuzzling closer into Blaine and kissing the top of his feverish son's head.
