The next day at school Kurt was left alone. No slushies, no dumpster tosses and no locker slams. But there was also no Karofsky.
That was, until last period.
Kurt started getting his books out for French when it started. At first, Kurt didn't notice. He didn't notice that jocks were slowly coming towards him with smirks on their faces and shoulders squared. Only when Karofsky slammed his head into the locker was when he noticed.
"Look-y here boys, daddies boy Hummel is all alone." Karofsky spoke as he kicked Kurt, who had fallen from the locker slam.
"Here's what's gonna happen," Karofsky gripped Kurt's hair and pulled hard until his mouth was right next to Kurt's ear. "Me and my boys here are gonna teach you what happens when you run away crying to your pathetic, red neck father."
Kurt's eyes flared with anger and fear.
"Once we teach you a lesson, we may just drop by and visit him. Whataya say, boys?" The rest of the jock laughed and cheered.
"No!" Kurt screamed and tried pulling away from Karofsky's iron grip.
"Did you just talk back to me, Faggot?" Karofsky twisted his wrist and yanked up hard on Kurt's hair.
Kurt frantically shook his head, tears leaking from his eyes.
"Thought so." Karofsky let Kurt go and was about to kick him but a voice made him stop.
"Really, Karofsky? You have, what? Seven guys to beat up someone less than half your size." Blaine pushed his way through and looked Karofsky dead in the eye. "I suggest you picked on someone your own size if you know what's good for you."
Karofsky and the jocks laughed.
"You really think you could take us all on?"
"Damn fucking straight, bitch." Blaine spat on Karofsky's face then punched him square in the face.
Karofsky clutched his jaw and yelled in pain. Blaine went in for another hit but Karofsky dodged and kicked Blaine in the shins. Blaine yelped and punched the jock in the gut the ribs. A sickening crack echoed off the walls while Karofsky wailed and dropped on the floor.
The restore jocks ganged up on Blaine but before they could do anything another voice broke through.
"Hey!" Coach Beiste yelled and jumped in between all of them. "Everyone to class now!"
The jocks grumbled as they helped Karofsky off the floor before walking the other way.
Coach Beiste asked the remaining pair if they were alright.
Kurt nodded and so did Blaine.
Coach Beiste left the pair and wandered down the empty hallway. After a moment of silence, Blaine spoke up.
"You okay, babe?"
Kurt just nodded looking away from Blaine.
"C'mon, let's get you to class." Blaine basically picked Kurt up off the floor and started walking.
"T-Tha-Thank you." Kurt whispered when they approached the classroom.
"No problem, babe." Blaine winked at Kurt then took off. Kurt blushed and entered the classroom.
After the bell, Kurt walked back to his locker, making sure that no jocks were around this time. When he saw that the coast was clear he opened his locker and put his books away. He was halfway done when he felt someone watching him. He turned to see Blaine staring right at him with a stony expression on his face.
When Kurt was finished he saw Blaine slide up next to him as he walked down to the choir room.
"So, babe, where we headn'?" Blaine asked.
"W-Wait, w-we?" Kurt stopped and turned to Blaine.
"Yep. I'm not leaving you alone after what just happened. So tell me, where we goin'?"
"G-Glee."
"Glee club? Wow, beautiful and sings, I hit the jackpot." Blaine said with a small smirk.
Kurt just blushed.
The two carried on in silence until they made it to the choir room.
"- Oh hell to the no! You sit your skinny white ass back the fuck down before I kill you!" Someone screamed. Mercedes.
"Without Mr. Schuster here I think I'm the most suitable person to take over Glee." Someone replied. Rachel.
Kurt and Blaine looked at each other and stepped into the room. It was complete chaos. Mercedes and Rachel were arguing loudly. Santana and Brittany were snuggled together on one chair. Puck, Artie, Sam and Mike were talking about something with guns and fire. Tina was sitting by the piano playing quietly and Finn was making out with Quinn.
'When did they get back together?' Kurt wondered.
"The fuck is going on here?!" Blaine exclaimed.
Everyone was quiet. They all stared at Kurt and Blaine. Mainly at Blaine.
Finn, who'd somehow managed to stop making out with Quinn, stepped forward and tried to tower over Blaine.
"Look dude, I don't know who you think you are, but you're not in charge here."
Blaine opened his mouth to reply but got interrupted.
"You're right Mr. Hudson, Mr. Anderson is not in charge here but I found someone who is." Principal Figgins announced from the other doorway.
"Oh yeah? Who?" Tina said shyly from her seat.
Figgins smiled and pointed to the person next to him.
"This is your new Glee coach, Mr. Brent Marcus!"
Mr. Marcus looked around 24-25 years old. He was an average build with white skin and short, dark shaggy hair. He wore black square rimmed glasses that sat on top of his small button nose and magnified his soft, warm green eyes. His smile was genuine and kind and was surrounded by a 5 o'clock shadow. He was dressed in a short-sleeved button down lilac shirt with a black vest placed on top. His jeans were also black along with his leather dress shoes. He hid behind Principal Figgins and looked down shyly.
Basically, he looked like Marcus Mumford.
"Wow! He looks like a reject from Mumford & Sons." Santana snickered.
Mr. Marcus dropped his head and started turning red.
"Oh come on Santana, don't be such a stuck up bitch for once." Mercedes said, glaring at her.
"It was such an obvious joke, lighten up." Santana said before whispering something to Brittany which made her giggle.
Mercedes rolled her eyes.
"Don't worry, Mr. M, she's just a bitch." She said, trying to comfort the teacher.
Mr. Marcus looked at her and smiled a bit.
"Alrighty, my job here is done!" Figgins clapped his hands together and walked off.
The class looked at their new Glee teacher and silently judged him.
The teacher cleared his throat and began speaking.
"Hello."
Silence.
Mr. Marcus opened his mouth but Rachel beat him to it.
"Mr. Marcus, as you should know, I'm the best singer in Glee club and also the leader, so-"
"Fuck no! Bitch you best not make me cut you!" Mercedes interrupted.
"-so I feel that it's my job to ask the question everyone is thinking," Rachel said, ignoring Mercedes completely.
"And that is?" Mr. Marcus pressed.
"Simple. Can you sing?" Rachel concluded.
Mr. Marcus froze. He started twisting his hands together and rubbing his forearms.
"Well?"
"Ahh – Umm – I-I-"
"It's a simple question, Mr. Marcus. Can you sing?" Rachel said.
There was silence in the room.
"That chick is such a bitch." Blaine whispered into Kurt's ear.
Kurt made a noise in agreement.
"Yes or no?"
"I-I-I-"
"Yes?"
"Umm..."
"No?"
Silence was all that could be heard. Everyone was either giving Rachel the death glare or looking at Mr. Marcus with sympathy.
"I-I-I – Be right back." Mr. Marcus rushed out of the room.
"What the actual fuck?" Blaine said. "I mean really, what the fuck is wrong with you?"
"What? It was a simple question." Rachel said defensively.
"Honestly Berry, couldn't you see how upset he was?" Santana said.
"You're one to talk! Weren't you the one that insulted him just before?"
"Please, that was nothing but a little harmless joke."
"Was not."
"Was too."
"Not."
"Bitch, you really wanna get into this with me?" Santana stood up and towered over Rachel.
And that's when the Glee clubs WWII happened. Everyone was arguing while Blaine was sitting back and watching gleefully. But Kurt, Kurt had left to try and find the distraught teacher but soon found himself cornered by no other than David Karofsky.
"Not so tough without your little butt buddy, are ya?" Karofsky pressed into Kurt's personal bubble and gripping his shoulders. Half his face was black from earlier and he was hunched over slightly.
"Pl-Plea-Please le-leave me a-alone." Kurt whimpered, closing his eyes tightly.
Karofsky smirked. He reached behind Kurt and pulled his phone out from his back pocket. He griped it and smashed it on the floor.
"You can't go call your daddy now, whataya gonna do?" Karofsky sneered.
Kurt was shaking like a leaf, hoping for a miracle.
"Kurt? Kurt? Kurt, where are you?"
Blaine. Kurt sighed and sagged against the lockers.
"I'll continue this later, you can count on that." Karofsky huffed and disappeared.
Without Karofsky holding him, Kurt sank down on the floor and started to hyperventilate.
"Kurt?" Blaine stopped and heard someone panting heavily. He ran towards the sound and sure enough, he found Kurt, he dropped to his knees and wrapped his arms around the boy. That was enough for Kurt to break.
He started sobbing just like last time.
"Shh, shh, it's okay. It's okay." Blaine rubbed Kurt back as he cried.
It was weird for Kurt. He'd never been hugged from anyone apart from his dad but as weird and awkward as it was it was also nice and comforting. Kurt took a deep breath in.
Mint, cinnamon and a hint of smoke. Blaine.
Blaine was terrified when he saw Kurt was missing. He had no idea what had happened to the boy but if yesterday was any indication, is was bad and earlier just added to Blaine's guess.
Blaine had never had anything to love or to hold or to care for. No pets. No siblings. Nothing.
His life wasn't too bad. His parents were highly successful doctors and were away most of the time but they loved him. He lives in a big, beautiful house with nice neighbors. He did go to Dalton but after a resent fight involving some of the other older students, Blaine got kicked out. His life was boring and when he found out that he was transferring to McKinley, he changed his attitude and looks to the badboy image so he could do whatever he wanted whenever he wanted but once he saw Kurt, his objective changed. Now he was going make sure that he'd do everything in his power to make sure the beautiful boy would never feel any more pain.
Blaine took a deep breath in.
Vanilla, honey and a hint of coffee. Kurt.
They held each other for a while until Blaine suggested they head back to Glee.
Once they arrived they group was still arguing so Blaine sat down on an empty chair and pulled Kurt down on top of him and held him close, ignoring Kurt's squeak.
After a while, Mr. Marcus returns with a guitar in his left hand and a determined look on his face. He walked over to the drum set and banged around until the talking stopped.
"Thank you." He said after everyone quit arguing.
He grabbed the guitar and started playing.
We came to the end it seems you had heard.
As we walked the city streets,
You never said a word.
When we finally sat down
Your eyes were full of spite.
I was desperate, I was weak
I could not put up a fight.
Where are you now?
Where are you now?
Do you ever think of me
In the quiet, in the crowd?
You were strangely less than pain
Than you were cold.
Triumphant in your mind
Of the logic that you hold.
You said no one would ever know
The love that we had shared.
As I took my leave to go
It was clear that you didn't care.
Where are you now?
Where are you now?
Do you ever think of me
In the quiet, in the crowd?
Where are you now?
Where are you now?
Do you ever think of me
In the quiet, in the crowd?
And I hear of your coming and you're going in the town.
I hear stories of your smile,
I hear stories of your frown.
And the darkness can descend,
We can relish all the pain.
But I know that's what you love,
Cause you know I love the same.
Where are you now?
Where are you now?
Do you ever think of me
In the quiet, in the crowd?
Where are you now?
Where are you now?
Do you ever think of me
In the quiet, in the crowd?
Where are you now?
Where are you now?
Do you ever think of me
In the quiet, in the crowd?
Where are you now?
Where are you now?
Do you ever think of me
In the quiet, in the crowd?
The class was silent for a minute then broke into loud cheers.
"That was epic!"
"Amazing!"
"Interesting."
"Love it!"
The class applauded for a moment longer making Mr. Marcus smile and blush making him look down at his feet.
"I could totally make a joke right now but I'll hold back." Santana said, smirking at Rachel.
"Thank you, thank you." Mr. Marcus bowed. "Well, I've wasted most of the lesson so, you guys can go now. Bye." He smiled and waved to the children as they left the room.
When Kurt got outside he was stopped by Blaine.
"Here." Blaine handed Kurt a piece of paper with a number scribbled on it. "Call me whenever you need to, I'll always be there to help, listen or anything you need. See ya, beautiful." Blaine left without another word.
Kurt stood there dumbfounded and stared at the number. He quickly got into his car and smiled the whole way home.
