Before continuing, please read this little intro. I included this information in the beginning so the story isn't unnecessarily cluttered with this info (I wrote it in originally and it made it awkward).
This is a D/s society where thin, black lines appear around everyone's wrist in puberty. If they are a sub, they will have the line around their left wrist. If they are a Dom, they will have it around their right.
Now, it is unusual to have a closed line, like this (except, ya know, around their wrist). What is typical is having an open line, such as this., except the line would open on the inside of their wrist.
An open line indicates that the person does not have one set soulmate. This does not mean that they will not be able to stay with someone for a long time. It simply means that there is no one specific person set aside for them. Having a closed line means that person has one true soulmate.
There is no specific way that a person knows who their soulmate is. They may not know they are soulmates until weeks after meeting. But there will be a feeling that they don't understand right away. That is the sign that it is their soulmate.
Thank you for reading!
I'm going to be late. I can't be late. Kurt Hummel is not late.
Kurt knew he should have left the hotel earlier. But he got a little behind, too busy indulging in extra sleep and the fresh fruit the hotel offered for breakfast. And now he was briskly moving through the airport, pulling his suitcase along behind him as he slung his carry-on bag onto his shoulder.
He made it to the check in counter, relieved to hear his flight hadn't left yet. He handed over his suitcase and rushed off with his carry-on to go through security, then finally made it to his terminal. Kurt checked his watch and saw that he was three minutes shy of being late for his flight.
Once he boarded the plane, he breathed a sigh of relief. He made his way down the aisle, searching for his seat. It wasn't very hard, considering most of the seats were filled.
When he reached his row, which was only two seats on the one side of the aisle, he found that a man, who seemed to have drifted off to sleep, occupied the inner aisle seat. Well, Kurt had wished he had been early enough to get a little nap in.
Kurt carefully tried to slide in front of him to get to his window seat, but it was hard to do so when the space between the man's legs and the seat in front of him was already so small. So when he bumped against his leg the man jolted awake, blinking sleepy golden eyes that focused on Kurt.
“Oh, I'm sorry…”he apologized quickly, pulling his legs in as far as he could manage. “I guess I fell asleep…I'm sorry.”
Kurt chuckled softly, sitting down next to him. “It's okay. I didn't mean to wake you.”
Well, Kurt was happy he would at least be flying next to a handsome stranger. The man's curly hair was slicked down with gel, but a few stray curls were coming undone. He briefly wondered what it would look like without the gel at all, but pushed the thought aside. His eyes were wide and warm, framed by dark lashes. Kurt admired his suit and dark green bowtie. He didn't see many men wearing bowties, and he himself usually preferred to wear ties with his suits, as he was then. His eyes finally strayed to the man's lips, which just looked incredibly kissable…
Kurt didn't realize how openly he'd been looking this man over until the stranger cleared his throat, a blush evident on his cheeks as Kurt looked up at him. Kurt couldn't help blushing just a bit.
“I'm sorry,” He apologized with a soft chuckle, smiling at him gently. “I'm Kurt,” he introduced himself, holding a hand out to him. The man took it with a smile, shaking it firmly.
“I'm Blaine,” he introduced, letting his hand go after a few moments. “It's nice to meet you.”
“You as well,” Kurt murmured, his eyes flickering down towards his wrists. Of course, his suit jacket covered them and he couldn't see his marks.
Blaine noticed where Kurt was looking and pushed up the left sleeve of his suit jacket and shirt, revealing the closed line around his wrist, giving him an almost shy smile. Kurt smiled and did the same, showing him his closed line around his right wrist.
“Thank you for showing me,” Kurt murmured and smiled, straightening his sleeves back out. Blaine nodded, doing the same.
“You're welcome, Sir.”
And with that one word, Kurt felt a gentle spark pulse through him. It was customary for subs to refer to Doms in that way, so why was Blaine saying that having an effect on Kurt?
