When Kurt arrived at Blaines home, he saved his work schedule calender in his phone and pocketed it, telling the cab driver hed be right back. He decided itd be best if he didnt grumble about the fact he was late, something he probably disliked more than Blaine did- or more than Blaine would probably let on to, anyways.
He was surprised at how quickly Blaine opened the door after he knocked, standing there in dark denim jeans, a dark blue button up, and a bright, fun-patterned, light blue bowtie. He looked both sophisticated and almost bubbly, his curls slicked down into place, his eyes cheerful. "Hi sir, Im ready," he greeted with a warm smile, looking almost like an excited puppy who had been waiting all day for his person to come home. Kurt liked this look.
"Hello Blaine...you look handsome," he said, smiling at the blush that spread across Blaines cheeks.
"Thank you, sir..."he murmured, bowing his head politely before he almost shyly looked back up at him.
"Come on. We dont want to be too late for our reservations," He said, turning to go back down the steps that led up to Blaines door, his little home just off the sidewalk. He heard the door click as Blaine locked it before he followed after him to the waiting cab.
They kept to small talk on their way to the restaurant. Blaine asked Kurt about his day and vice versa. They talked about the amount of traffic on the road. Kurt mentioned the type of cuisine theyd be having, and they discussed possibilities of what they wanted to eat. All trivial little things.
When they arrived at the restaurant and went inside, however, they let themselves focus on things of importance.
Theyd already learned a lot about each other on the plane ride. So they decided to delve into more serious things.
How long was your last serious relationship?
Would you want to get married?
Do you want children?
What are some things you really want to do in your lifetime?
And then came a question that Kurt had been thinking about for a little while.
"So...you have a closed line. Are you happy youre supposed to have a soulmate?" he asked, sipping some of his wine as he looked over at Blaine, who was happily answering all his questions. This one seemed to catch him off guard, his eyes widening.
"Oh...oh yes, of course I am!" he said enthusiastically. "Ive always been very happy that theres one person who is supposed to be my Dom. I think it means the connection is stronger. Not that I dont think people who are in open-lined relationships arent happy, committed, or connected to each other. I just mean...its different. Theres a different connection between soulmates than there are between other people, you know?"
Kurt hadnt expected such an enthusiastic and obviously well thought out response to his question, not that it wasnt welcome. In fact, he found himself nodding along in agreement.
"I understand. Ive always thought that too. That Im really happy theres a sub just for me...that theres someone I share this deeper connection with than just being boyfriends or husbands."
Blaine grinned, obviously happy that he felt the same. His smile was so catching that Kurt just couldnt help smiling as well, getting lost in his thoughts again. What if that new, tingling sensation he was getting...each time Blaine called him sir, each time they happened to have some sort of accidental contact as they reached for the salt or bumped the others foot under the table...what if that meant they were soulmates?
As if Blaine had read his mind, he said, "Id really like to think that youre the Dom Im meant to be with. That may be too bold of me to say, and Im sorry if it is...but I just have this new feeling around you...something Ive never felt with someone before and were...well, I dont think were anything right now, just two people on a date but...I would like if we were something."
That certainly was bold. But Kurt was grateful that Blaine was not one of the timid subs that lived in fear, eyes constantly downcast, waiting for an order, feeling like they couldnt share their thoughts and opinions.
"Id like that too," he murmured with a smile. "I have felt something different between us that I havent felt with anyone else before. Its like...tingling. Electric, almost." He saw Blaine nodding along. He wondered if that meant he felt that same, strange feeling too.
"This is only our first date, and Im sort of traditional when it comes down to terminology with relationships and such. How about we go on a few more before we make anything official, hm?"
"Thats fine with me, sir. Its up to you. Im okay with waiting to call you my Dom," Blaine replied, his smile just a little shy now.
After dinner they went on a walk together. Blaine said hed like to walk off some of his food before he went home and became lazy. Kurt thought it was a good excuse to keep both of them from going home just yet. So they walked together, arms linked. It felt good to be with someone like Blaine (even if he wasnt quite with him yet- officially speaking). Someone who was bright and handsome, someone who could keep the conversation going. The times they had been quiet on their date were mostly to chew their food, or was spent comfortably as they strolled through the bustling city, the night air beginning to grow crisp as fall was slowly fading away to be replaced by winter.
Kurt returned Blaine home later that night. It was edging close to midnight, and he was glad he didnt have work in the morning.
"Thank you for tonight, sir. I had a really nice time," Blaine murmured with a smile, pushing his door in after unlocking it, though he remained on the stoop.
"Thank you for letting me take you out," Kurt replied with his own smile. He leaned in, pressing a gentle kiss to his forehead, something chaste and sweet- he couldnt help himself. As he pulled away, he saw Blaines grin, and also his blush that was highlighted by the dim porch light.
"Goodnight, Blaine," Kurt said before he pulled away, heading down the steps.
"Goodnight, Sir," Blaine called back to him, staying in the doorway as he watched him get a cab. Once he was inside the vehicle and pulling away, Blaine let himself go inside to relax in his own home, content in knowing Kurt was on his way to his own.
