Blaine sits on his couch, his head in his hands as Santana paces in front of him. “It’s been two weeks since that stupid coffee shop argument, Blaine and you’ve spoken, like, two words to each other. I thought you were serious about this?” Santana asks, levelling a glare at the man on the couch.
Blaine sighs and pulls his hands away from his face, looking up at Santana. “I was Santana but he lied to me. Sat there, looked into my eyes and lied. He’s never lied to me before, I just felt like…I don’t know, maybe he doesn’t want me.” He sighed, exasperated and looked away from the Latina’s stare.
“So? Lying’s easy, look,” She put her hand on his shoulder. “Those bowties you used to wear were so fashionable,” She raises her eyebrow as Blaine snorts and shakes his head. “Wow. You have changed since school.” Santana says, unimpressed and starts to gather her things.
Blaine looks at her confused and takes her bag as she tries to grab for it. “What do you mean?”
She looks at Blaine and drops the bag strap they’re both holding onto. “Back in school you’d have done anything for him. You took on Karofsky, moved schools for him, and waited for months before doing it because I know you would’ve tapped that ass before if you could. You almost got blinded for him and you didn’t put your gel back in, though you really should’ve, when he asked you not to at Prom. You would’ve done anything then, what changed?”
Blaine sighs and lets go of the strap, letting Santana’s bag fall to the floor and gestures with his hands. “We broke up, Santana.”
The Latina rolled her eyes and snorted. “You two, so fixated on that. So? You didn’t give up easily on the other stuff, don’t now.”
Blaine nodded and looked back up at her, asking. “So what do we do?”
Santana thought for a minute then smirked. “Leave that to Auntie Snix Blainey-boy. Wear something nice tomorrow.”
Blaine took a deep breath as he sat down on the piano bench. He could do this. Kurt was still Kurt. Still the boy he’d met on the staircase, whose eyes had lit something inside of him, still the boy he’d nervously kissed in the senior commons room at Dalton, still the boy he’d given his virginity to and held his heart for over a year. He heard voices and looked up to see the actors coming in. Kurt was talking to Santana and one of the dancers, laughing at something the other man was saying. The light caught his face and his skin glowed, suddenly Blaine was back in the Warblers rehearsal room staring at a broken angel singing out his pain over a bird and the loss of something so close to him.
His view was abruptly blocked and he looked up to see Rachel standing there, arms crossed. She doesn’t look mad, she almost looks sad so he moves to let her sit.
Rachel sits down and looks over at Kurt where he’s joined the others on stage then looks back to Blaine. “So, Santana’s helping you win back Kurt,” It’s a statement, not a question so Blaine just nods. “He loves you. Just remember he’s the same Kurt you met all those years ago but he’s other things too. Don’t do this unless you’re sure and you’re sure you’ll fit back together the way you did then.”
Blaine nods, choked up. “I’m sure. I love him,” He wants to ask what other things Kurt is but leaves it, Kurt will tell him when they get back together, he’s sure. He looks up as Rachel starts to walk away. “Rachel? Why are you both so determined about us?”
Rachel’s eyes fill with tears and she looks at Santana and Kurt before looking back at Blaine. “Because one of us should be happy.”
Blaine waits for a break before approaching Kurt. He’s sitting on the edge of the stage again and Blaine gets up and walks over. “Hey Kurt?”
Kurt looks down at him, looking slightly surprised. “Hi. What’s up?”
Blaine smiles at him and gestures towards his script. “I was talking to Rachel earlier, she and Santana mentioned about going over some lines and the songs. I offered my place to rehearse. I have my piano there and we could go over them together, the four of us.”
Kurt nods, looking at his script again. “They told me they asked you. I don’t know if it’s such a good idea, Blaine.”
“Come on Kurt, we used to sound so good together.” Blaine says and Kurt’s eyebrow rises, remembering all the ‘good sounds’ they made together when they weren’t singing.
“Fine. Tomorrow, 10am.” Kurt says and gets up as Christophe calls for another scene. Blaine grins and goes back to the piano, his fingers gliding over the keys with more ease then ever with the lightness in his heart.
Kurt walked backstage to his dressing room, feeling exhausted. He was always tired lately. He hated it. He’d always been healthy in school, granted he ate and slept better and was working and dancing more than he ever had. Since school he’d been healthy, mostly, but recently things had built up and with Blaine around Kurt wanted to work harder, partly because of the ingrained desire to impress the dark-haired man and partly to forget about him.
The letter on his vanity haunted him. It taunted him, his eyes drawn to it wherever it was. It mocked him in his sleep, showing him he wasn’t perfect. He was, after all, his parents’ child and he’d gained his weak heart from both of them. One open to love, happiness and passion, but also to weakness, imperfection. A heart that could kill him at any time.
Kurt’s fingers trailed over the stark white paper. His feet had moved him over to the vanity without him realising. He looked at himself in the light bulb-lit mirror. He looked the same as ever. He’d grown up and looked every bit the man he now was.
He picked up the letter with shaking fingers, looking it over with blurry vision. The words sorry, congenital heart defect, arrhythmia and medication jumped out at him. He slumped against the wall, tears slipping down his face, curling into himself, with his back against the wall and his knees drawn up he sobbed. Why him?
Kurt knocked on Blaine’s door at 9.59am. He hadn’t seen or heard from either of the girls so he just assumed they were already at Blaine’s, ready to rehearse.
Blaine opened the door and the breath was knocked out of Kurt’s body. He looked gorgeous. The younger man was freshly washed and shaven, his curls still damp. He was wearing a navy blue top, black jeans and no shoes or socks. He smiled at Kurt and waved him in, eyes twinkling as he caught the expression of awe on Kurt’s face before he slipped back into professional mode.
To be honest, Blaine was as awed by Kurt’s look as his ex was by his. His golden-brown hair was lightly styled, his pale skin glowing, set off by the black top and pants so tight he could’ve sworn they were painted on.
Kurt looks around, slightly thrilled but slightly scared that neither Rachel nor Santana are there. He turns to Blaine and raises his eyebrow at the slightly sheepish expression on his face. “Where are Santana and Rachel?”
Blaine shuffles his feet and scratches the back of his neck, not quite looking at Kurt. “They couldn’t make it. Prior engagements or something like that.”
Kurt looked at him hard. “Blaine this was a prior engagement. They set this up. They would’ve told me,” He grabs his phone from his pocket and as if on prompt, it beeps. 1 message from Santana. Hey Kurtie, can’t make the rehearsal, have fun without us! Kurt looks back up at Blaine who’s now biting his lip. “They planned this, didn’t they?” He asks and Blaine closes his eyes.
“Yes, but Kurt don’t be mad, please. We can just rehearse, or talk, or both. Just don’t leave and don’t be angry.” Blaine asks, his eyes begging Kurt to stay and Kurt can’t resist those puppy eyes.
“Fine,” He says, putting his phone down and grabbing his script from his bag. “We’ll rehearse. What do you want to sing?”
Blaine grins and goes to grab the music and lyrics, excited. “Elephant love medley?” He asks, hopeful. Kurt just raises an eyebrow and nods.
They sing the song, dancing around Blaine’s apartment as if they’re Kass and Dulcie; even though Kurt’s pretty sure some of the medley will be cut out. He watches Blaine in his element, their voices harmonising together as easily as it had so many times before in rehearsal rooms in a private school, in bedrooms as they played and sang, on stages, in the rehearsal room of a public school and in their hearts. The lyrics are so meaningful, and so tied to their situation Kurt wants to cry. Blaine has always used song to convey his feelings where words failed him and today, in this moment his hazel eyes are trained on Kurt, showing his deepest love and heartbreak until Kurt stops holding back and lets the lyrics flow through him, the words meaningful and the desire unhidden.
“We could be heroes, just for one day.” Blaine belts out and Kurt almost missteps but falls back into character.
“You, you will be mean.” Kurt says, walking away from Blaine.
“No I won’t.” Blaine says, touching his arm.
“And I, I’ll drink all the time.” Kurt almost laughs as Blaine’s raised eyebrow but the other man runs and jumps onto his couch as Kurt turns away.
“We should be lovers.”
Kurt’s eyes widen, Blaine’s singing, not Dulcie. “We can’t do that.” He says, choking on his own words.
“We should be lovers, and that’s a fact.” Blaine belts out, jumping off the sofa and running into Kurt, slamming their bodies together. Kurt blushes and looks down under Blaine’s heart eyes.
“Though nothing would keep us together.” Kurt sings softly and grabs onto the hard surface behind him, vaguely registering Blaine has him pressed up against the kitchen island.
“We could steal time.” Blaine sings softly back and their eyes connect.
“Just for one day.” They sing together and suddenly the air heats up, flames of love and desire roaring between them and Kurt’s breath stutters as Blaine’s lips descend.
Their lips met in a passionate kiss and Blaine’s hand fisted in Kurt’s hair, their tongues tangling and duelling. Blaine’s other hand drifted down Kurt’s chest, towards his waistband and Kurt whimpered loudly, his cock hardening under the passion swirling between them.
Blaine growled and pushed Kurt backwards, up against the counter. “Tell me you don’t want me.” He grinds out, shoving his body up against Kurt’s, his cock hard and heavy against Kurt’s own. He rips his lips away from Kurt’s and kisses down Kurt’s jaw, listening as his ex-love pants against him and takes the nonsensical mutterings slipping past the older man’s bruised lips as permission and bites down on Kurt’s neck, licking and sucking as he grinds himself against Kurt.
“No,” Kurt gasps, the haze lifting for a second as Blaine’s hand wanders into his pants, slipping past his underwear and starts palming at Kurt’s cock. “Blaine we can’t.”
Blaine doesn’t let up and he pushes Kurt up against the counter harder, lifting his hips to let him slide onto the hard surface. “Tell me you don’t want me Kurt.” He growls again, claiming the other man’s lips again. Kurt moans loudly, familiarity overpowering him and getting lost in the sensation of Blaine against him again. Blaine opens his trousers and Kurt’s eyes widen. Blaine’s cock is hard and glistening as precome bubbles from the tip and reality slams into Kurt hard. Blaine’s going to fuck him. Whatever Kurt says, Blaine wants him and right now Kurt can think of nothing but Blaine’s body against him, their bodies joined again.
Kurt sits motionless as Blaine takes his trousers off and doesn’t speak as Blaine comes back to him, hazel eyes blazing fiery gold and rips his pants off, growling as he stares at Kurt’s hard cock. “Tell me you don’t want this.” He repeats and tugs Kurt against him, flipping open the cap on a tube of lube and Kurt’s mind screams ‘where the hell did he get that?’. He whimpers and blinks hard. He made a promise, he made a promise but right now Blaine’s fingers are circling his hole and he wants this. He wants this so much.
Kurt’s back bows as Blaine pushes a finger in and their lips meet, angry, fiery and passionate. He adds another finger then another, barely letting Kurt’s body adjust but his mind isn’t in the right place for soft and slow, his body wants to mate with Kurt, to claim that pale body he knows so well and Kurt hasn’t said no, if anything he’s as turned on as Blaine, moaning and whimpering loudly, red lips open and eyes rolled back as Blaine fucks him with his fingers.
Blaine rips his fingers out and lathers up his cock, angling Kurt’s hips and pushing himself in, his body screaming at him, remembering the body that was made for him. “Tell me Kurt, tell me.” He pants and wraps his fingers around Kurt’s cock, tugging at the hard member.
“Fuck me Blaine, fuck me now.” Kurt moans and Blaine lets himself go, hips slamming into Kurt’s, setting up a frantic pace, fucking Kurt mercilessly.
They kiss messily as Blaine fucks Kurt, squeezing his eyes shut and then opening them to watch the gorgeous man beneath him. Kurt’s eyes are open, pupils blown wide, a strip of pale blue only just visible. Blaine kisses him deeply, their orgasms nearing, feeling his balls draw up. He leans over Kurt’s body, his hips stuttering, pushing harder into Kurt’s body. Blaine moans brokenly and snaps his hips into Kurt, cock burrowing as deep into Kurt’s body as possible and lets go as Kurt screams, cum flooding over Blaine’s fingers and their chests as Blaine’s cum floods Kurt’s insides.
They stare at each other as they come down and Kurt winces as Blaine slips out and lets him down off the counter.
Blaine watches the cum slide down Kurt’s leg and smirks, he did that. Kurt’s his again.
“Oh my god.” Kurt gasps. He looks around and grabs his underwear off the floor, slipping them on with a wince and a sharp intake of breath.
Blaine watches him, confused. “What are you doing? We should talk about this. Maybe do it again.” Blaine smirks and watches Kurt’s ass happily as he bends down to grab his pants.
“I can’t be here,” Kurt says, putting his pants on roughly. “We can’t do this and we’re not going to do this again.” He glares at Blaine and starts towards the door.
Blaine’s eyes widen and he rushes to block the door. “Hey. No, this was amazing. Kurt don’t tell me you didn’t enjoy what we did, I know you did. We had sex and it was passionate and sexy and familiar. Why do you keep pushing me away?” Blaine puts his hands on Kurt’s shoulders, the older man looks like he’s about to cry and desperation courses through Blaine. He can’t regret this; he can’t regret what they did.
Kurt shakes his head and pushes away from Blaine, walking back into the apartment. “I can’t do this Blaine. I know what you want from me and I can’t give you it.”
“Why?” Blaine shouts, losing his temper. “Because you’re the big star and I’m the musician? You told me you didn’t see us like that, I know you don’t see us like that! Kurt I love you!”
“Of course I don’t think like that Blaine, you know me! Why won’t you listen to me? I don’t want this!” Kurt shouts back, dragging his hands through his sweat-damp hair, tears filling his eyes.
Blaine stares at Kurt in shock. Didn’t want this? Did Kurt think he was an idiot? “Bullshit, Kurt! You just let me fuck you! My cum is in your ass, I watched it slide down your leg! You want this but you won’t let it happen, why?”
“Because I promised him!” Kurt screams back and gasps, clapping his hands over his mouth. He hadn’t meant to say that.
Blaine’s eyebrows knit together, confused. “You promised who? Who would you promise not to have sex with me and love me?” He whispers, heart breaking all over again.
Kurt slumps onto the sofa and Blaine walks over to him. “Christophe,” He whispers, regretting his decision not for the first time. “After I told him who you were he made me promise not to be with you. He could ruin my career, my reputation, Rachel’s, Santana’s, yours. He’s a powerful Broadway producer and I’m just a kid from Ohio.”
Blaine watches the tears slip down his face and kneels in front of him. “He can’t hurt us, Kurt. We’ll find a way to sort this out. Kurt I love you, so much and I’m not giving you up because you sold your soul. You can’t sell your soul to him, baby. It’s belonged to me for a long time, since we kissed the first time. You’re mine. Not his.” Blaine whispers and cups Kurt’s cheek, his other hand rubbing Kurt’s leg.
“He can ruin everything.” Kurt sobbed.
“Kurt love can conquer everything. Tell me you don’t love me.” Blaine got up and sat next to Kurt, gathering him into his arms.
“You know I do.” Kurt sighed and closed his eyes, feeling safe in Blaine’s arms, the memory of doing this as teenagers flooded through Kurt and lulled him to sleep, feeling safe and loved for the first time in years.
