Hey everyone. I am incredibly sorry for not updating. I wish I had a good explanation but I don’t. So, if you’re still here, I love you for it and enjoy!
Chapter Four
“Did I do better this time?,” Kurt asked in a small voice, glancing down at the body in front of them. His mind was still flooded with thoughts of blood and how amazing it had tasted. It still tasted like it had when Kurt was human, still salty and bitter with that somehow metallic aftertaste, but now Kurt found the taste to be pleasant. It was addicting, he could have sworn he had never tasted anything better. It lingered on his tongue and it made him crave more, but he shook these thoughts away. He wasn’t even hungry.
Blaine nodded. “Yeah, you did better. Still a bit messy but you’ll learn. Sometimes even I am a messy eater.” He grinned.
Kurt rolled his eyes at him. “So, what now?” He asked as he took Blaine’s hand. The contact of their skin felt so different. It made Kurt’s skin tingle and he got the feeling of sparks flying every single time he got close to Blaine.
“You should sleep, maybe. Do you feel tired?” Kurt shook his head at that question. “Figures, you won’t get tired that fast.” Blaine squeezed Kurt’s hand a little. “Let’s go back to the house. You are gonna calm down a bit and relax and I’m gonna get rid of the bodies. But first,” Blaine smirked at Kurt. “I want you to catch me.”
Kurt frowned at the wicked grin on Blaine’s face. “What?”
“Catch me.” Blaine repeated and let go of Kurt’s hand before disappearing. Kurt could barely see him, he was gone so quickly. He turned around trying to figure out where Blaine was. He couldn’t see him but he could hear his laughter echoing between the trees around him. Kurt scowled. Why was Blaine doing this?
“Blaine, what are you doing? How am I supposed to catch you? I’m not that--” Kurt paused, realizing what he’d just said. “Oh...” Of course, Kurt could catch him. He was just as fast, now wasn’t he?
He tried to focus and make out the shadow that was Blaine, dancing through the trees at an incredible speed. Kurt could see him. Even though Blaine was so fast that it was hard for Kurt to follow him with his eyes, Kurt could at least see him and he was in awe for a second, when he noticed that. Then he grinned.
He started jogging in Blaine’s general direction and then got faster with every step he took until he was running. He could see Blaine ahead of him now, he pushed his body to go faster and now the trees started to fly by. He still saw everything in sharp detail, but it all flew by so fast. Kurt couldn’t believe it.
He was running. He felt free. It was exhilarating.
He caught Blaine’s scent in the air and his instincts instantly kicked in as he started to chase after him. Blaine was fast. Probably way faster than Kurt but Kurt had the advantage of being newborn. As soon as his instinct took over he was not just chasing Blaine but literally hunting him down. After a couple minutes, Kurt had followed Blaine all the way back towards the mansion and Blaine got trapped between the wall of the house and Kurt who cornered Blaine with a low growl coming from him.
“Looks like you got me,” Blaine grinned. But that was a mistake.
When Kurt’s brain registered Blaine’s teeth bared, he immediately rushed forward, attacking, his own fangs out trying to sink them into Blaine’s neck. But Blaine was faster. He had Kurt’s throat tight in his grip the blink of an eye later and lifted him up against the brick wall. Kurt choked first but then he snarled at Blaine, his eyes verging on black.
“Calm down, Kurt,” Blaine hissed as Kurt struggled against his grip but he knew Kurt was far gone. Although Blaine had expected it to happen, he felt his chest tighten when Kurt’s eyes slowly bled through with a deep red color. Kurt let a out a ferocious snarl and clawed at Blaine’s hand around his own throat. He hissed and growled, his fangs bared at Blaine and red eyes glistening with anger.
When Kurt started trying to break Blaine’s wrist, Blaine let go and held Kurt in place with his telekinesis instead. “I’m sorry, Kurt,” Blaine whispered but Kurt was not even listening. Blaine sat down on the ground, ignoring that the grass was wet and kept the thought that held Kurt locked inside his head. He didn’t want to hurt Kurt, so the only way would be to wait this out. “I don’t know how I can ever compensate what I’ve done to you, Kurt. I probably shouldn’t have but I needed to. What else could I have done? But look at you. You’re going through all of this because of me, and I can’t do anything to make it easier for you, or at least tell you that it will get easier. Because it won’t. It won’t get any easier. This life only brings problems and complications and I don’t think I can ever make it up to you for this.”
Kurt wasn’t trashing against his hold as much anymore as he had in the beginning. His growl was ever present but he didn’t hiss at Blaine anymore. It actually seemed like Kurt was calming down. However, it would still take about an hour until the red in his eyes faded.
So Blaine sat in the grass, watching Kurt, apologizing over and over again, knowing that Kurt would probably not remember any of this.

Kurt blinked and opened his eyes. The light stung and he closed them again. He groaned. Where was he? What had happened?
He pushed himself up into a seating position and looked around. They were still outside, Blaine was sitting not far from him on the ground looking at him curiously, his head tilted a little bit to the side. “Are you okay?” Blaine asked quietly his voice sounding sad.
Kurt nodded first and then slowly shook his head. “What happened? I can’t... What did I do?”
Blaine slowly pushed himself up, not wanting to move too fast in case Kurt was still not a hundred percent himself again. “You don’t remember anything, huh?” He stepped closer and kneeled in front of Kurt. “I guess I pushed it too far, but I thought it would be a good way to train your hunting skills.”
“What do you mean? Can’t you just tell me what happened?” Kurt said through clenched teeth.
“You went red eyes after you caught me.”
Kurt stopped breathing for a few seconds but of course he didn’t even notice since he didn’t need oxygen. He tried to wrap his head around the thought of himself becoming a feral, vicious... He didn’t want to say ‘monster’ but how else was he going to describe it? What did he do while he was like that? He really couldn’t remember. He tried to imagine it, imagine himself the way he had seen Blaine.
“Did I... did I attack you?” he asked quietly.
“Well, you tried but I pinned you and you couldn’t move so you didn’t attack me.” Blaine explained and offered a hand to Kurt who took it and let himself be pulled up. “How are you feeling?”
Kurt thought about that for a second. “Confused, since I can’t remember what happened. Scared, because I don’t know what I am becoming... hungry, for obvious reasons,” Kurt didn’t look Blaine in the eyes but Blaine lifted Kurt’s chin up forcing him to look at him.
“Kurt, you are not becoming a monster. I won’t let that happen to you. I will help you to learn to control yourself but you have to trust me. I am never gonna let you alone. Not with this. Not after having done this to you.”
“It’s not that I don’t trust you. I just don’t trust myself anymore.”
“But I trust you.”
Kurt looked into the depth of Blaine’s honey-colored eyes that looked at him, entirely sincere. He leaned in to kiss Blaine and Blaine, though a little surprised, kissed him back. When they parted, Blaine leaned his forehead against Kurt’s. “Come on, let’s get inside. We should change clothes.”
Inside, both of them changed into sweatpants and t-shirts. Blaine hoped this kind of clothing would result in a cuddle session later but for now he just enjoyed the way Kurt’s hand felt in his own.
“Would you fancy a walk downstairs to see the basement? Or are you still afraid of the dark?” Blaine asked teasingly, nudging his elbow into Kurt’s side.
Kurt gave him an annoyed glare and a growl began rumbling in his chest. The expression on his face changed to become surprised and he let go of Blaine’s hand and took a quick step away from him. “Why do I always growl at you? I don’t even mean to do that. It just... happens.” He looked down, avoiding Blaine’s eyes and looking at his fists instead.
“Hey, it’s okay, Kurt. It’s normal that you do that. If you didn’t, I would probably doubt that you’re a vampire.” He grinned. “Come on now, don’t worry about every little thing that’s new to you. You’ll get used to it and--”
“But this doesn’t happen to you!” Kurt interrupted him. “You don’t randomly growl without meaning to and you don’t flinch whenever anything is remotely loud. You just don’t do that. Then why am I doing that? Why am I not like you?” He stepped further away from Blaine and Blaine could see the accusation in Kurt’s eyes.
Faster than Kurt could see, Blaine’s face was inches away from his own. “Kurt, listen to me. Listen to me, very closely. You are fine. Nothing’s wrong with you and the only reason you’re not exactly like me is because I am older. You’re just a newborn vampire and I am a few years younger than 300. There should be lifetimes, yes, even worlds between us but we’re here. We’re with each other and now you’re just like me. As soon as you get a little older, a little more used to what you are, you will be able to control all these urges you have. You will be just as fast as me and you won’t growl without meaning to. At least not all the time. It happens to me, too, and you know it. I growled whenever things got heated between us and believe me that it wasn’t intended.” Blaine forced his eyes to darken as he looked into Kurt’s. “We all have flaws, Kurt. We need them to be who we are because without flaws we’d be no one. We’d be doomed. Just don’t fight your instincts but become one with them, ‘cause they are a part of you now just like they are a part of me.”
Kurt nodded slowly, a little overwhelmed by the intensity of Blaine’s words. “I’m sorry I always freak out like that.”
Blaine gave him a fond look. “You don’t have to apologize. You’re going through a lot at the moment and you can’t be held responsible for all your actions. Now come on,” He took Kurt’s hand again and tugged on it. “I’m gonna show you the basement now, whether you want to see it or not.”
Kurt watched as Blaine pushed the bookshelf aside behind which the entrance to the basement was hidden. He frowned when he looked down the stairs.
“Wicked,” he breathed out making Blaine smile at his amazement. “I can’t believe I couldn’t see this before.”
Where the human Kurt had only seen the stairs leading into total darkness, now he could see the bottoms of the stairs that led into a tunnel. The little light that reached from the study down there was enough for Kurt to see every spec of dust on the wooden steps. He could even see where Blaine had stepped only a few days ago.
“So, is there anything special down there or are you just playing with me?” Kurt glanced at Blaine who simply ignored that and stepped down the first few steps of the stairs before turning around and holding out his hand to Kurt. He took it with a small sigh, enjoying the way it felt just right in his own, giving off the warmth of a human body. Just then, Blaine’s smell got caught in Kurt’s nose. Kurt breathed it in deeply. It smelled amazing, the scent made him forget the craving that he had had since he had woken up.
Blaine led him down the stairs and into the dark tunnel. Well, it wasn’t that dark to them. Kurt wrinkled his nose at the smell of wet earth and stone. It was quite strong down here. They rounded a corner and the tunnel started to incline. Now, even for their eyes it was getting darker. There was no light reaching this far down the tunnel and Kurt touched one hand to the wall of the tunnel, just to be sure to not run into something. Blaine was ahead of him and Kurt could hear his steps and his breathing. Kurt was surprised that he could almost exactly make out how far Blaine was away. It was like his brain was calculating the distance for him down to the centimeter.
Blaine came to a stop at another corner and crouched down to pick something up from the ground. As far as Kurt could see, it was a box of matches.
“What exactly are you planning on lighting with that?” He asked skeptically.
Blaine walked a few steps further and reached up to take a torch out of its holder. He lit one of the matches and then the torch. Kurt hissed at the sudden brightness of the fire and looked away. “Sorry,” Blaine said. “I didn’t think it would hurt your eyes.”
“It’s fine. How much further are we going?”
“It’s right behind the next corner. Come on.” Blaine took hold of Kurt’s hand again, holding the torch with the other hand. Together, they reached the end of the tunnel where it opened into a wide hall.
“Wow,” Kurt breathed. The light of the torch was enough to light up the entire room. The walls were made out of rough stone, as was the floor. In the middle of the hall was something Kurt would have described as a boxing ring and it probably was supposed to be one. Along the walls, there were more torches but also chains. Kurt could now imagine what these were for. They could probably hold a vampire, if he lost it.
Blaine went around the room, lighting the other torches until the room was filled with the warm light of fire. Now Kurt could see everything clearly. He noticed another tunnel on the opposite side of the room that led somewhere into darkness again.
“So, this whole place is only supposed to be training space? For vampires?” Kurt asked and slowly walked towards the boxing ring.
Blaine nodded. “Yep.”
“Who built this, if Cooper doesn’t know anything about it?”
“Um, me. Damien helped a bit when he could but it was me for the most part.”
Kurt turned to stare at Blaine. “You built this place by yourself?”
“Yeah.”
“What the hell? That must’ve taken years.” Kurt looked around the hall. The ceiling was at least four meters high and the whole room had to be about 250 square meters.
“It did,” Blaine agreed. “I did it when no one lived here, so no one noticed.”
“But what did you do this for? I mean, why would you build yourself a training room?”
Blaine shrugged. “It made sense at that time, and Damien said it would be nice to have some space to fight now and then. He wanted to train me down here and if you want to, I will train you here.”
“Train me?”
“Yes,” Blaine nodded. “Show you how to fight. Train your abilities, if you have any. Maybe you can shift, too. It would be safe to shift down here. Way safer than outside.” Blaine looked down. “Of course, if you don’t want to learn to fight, then you don’t have to. But I would advise you to, because you need to learn how to protect yourself. My world is your world now, and my world is a lot more dangerous than the world you know.”
Kurt bit his lip, considering what Blaine had said for a moment. “I want to learn. I do. I’m just really not sure if I could be a good fighter.”
“You would be. Trust me. I’ve seen you lose it already. Every vampire is naturally aggressive, believe me. We can fight.”
Kurt just nodded. “Alright then, train me. But how do we know whether I have an ability or that I can shift?”
“We have to ask Damien to pay us a visit. Maybe you discover your ability yourself until then but don’t try to shift until you’re sure that you can. Because if you can shift and you’re not prepared to change form, it will hurt. It will hurt a lot.”
“It hurt for you, didn’t it?”
Blaine sighed quietly but he didn’t answer and instead turned away from Kurt. Kurt couldn’t help but think about what Blaine had been through in his life. His human life as well as his vampire life. After Blaine was turned he had been alone and he had to figure everything out on his own. Until Damien found him. And Kurt was whining about every little thing. What would Blaine think of him? Was he regretting turning him?
No. Kurt shook his head. Blaine was his mate. They belonged together and they always would. In the beginning of their relationship Kurt had doubted that Blaine could ever love Kurt like Kurt loved him. To Blaine he must seem like a child, a naive child that had no idea about the world, whereas Blaine had lived for over two centuries. A human life had to seem so unimportant to him.
Kurt decided to change the subject. “Where does that tunnel over there lead to?”
Blaine looked up. “Oh, that... It’s kinda like an escape route. It leads to the well on these grounds. If I ever get cornered inside the house it gives me a way to escape. The well is pretty deep and the walls are hard to climb, for humans at least. A vampire wouldn’t have any problems getting out of there.”
Kurt wondered for a brief second what had scared Blaine that much that he built himself an escape route from his own house when suddenly Blaine’s head shot up and he was at the entrance to the tunnel that led up to the house again in a mere second.
“What--”
“Shh!” Blaine interrupted him and put a finger to his lips.
Kurt tried to concentrate on whatever Blaine was hearing upstairs and he quickly managed to tune his hearing, so he could hear what was happening up at the mansion. Now he could hear it, too. It sounded like... footsteps.
Blaine glanced back at Kurt. “Someone’s in the house.” Suddenly all the torches were extinguished- Kurt realized a second later that it had to be Blaine’s doing- except for one that Blaine quickly grabbed from the wall. “And that someone doesn’t have a heartbeat.”
Blaine was right. Kurt tried to make out a heartbeat or a smell that would appeal to him, make him hungry but... Nothing. “Are you telling me there’s a vampire upstairs?”
Blaine nodded but put a finger on his lips again. “Stay here.”
“No way!” Kurt grabbed Blaine’s arm. “I’m not letting you go up there alone.”
Blaine could barely stop himself from rolling his eyes. “Okay, then come on. Whoever that is, I’m gonna kick him out of my house.” He turned to walk into the tunnel. “This might get very violent, just so you know. Be prepared to fight!”
Kurt stopped walking for a second. “I can’t fight.”
“Didn’t you listen earlier? We can all fight. Some are just better than others.” And with that, Blaine disappeared into the tunnel, just a blur of light as he took the torch with him. Kurt tried to keep up, and he caught up with him at the bottom of the stairs where Blaine had stopped to listen again. He had dropped the torch to the ground and the fire had gone out. Blaine mouthed at Kurt to not make a single sound before he quickly jumped up the stairs. Kurt followed.
In the study it was bright. The sun had risen and for Kurt’s eyes it felt like looking directly into the sun. He blinked a few times and tried to concentrate again. Whoever it was was upstairs. Blaine was in the hallway a second later watching a shadow moving along the walls upstairs before he heard a growl.
Without warning someone jumped down the staircase and landed right in front of him. It was a man, well, a vampire, that looked like he was in his mid-twenties. The man bared his teeth as they grew into fangs, let out a snarl and attacked.
But before he could even reach Blaine, Kurt crashed into him with incredible speed. They both flew through the air and landed on the floor. The man tried to fight Kurt off but Blaine was at Kurt’s side immediately, wrenching both arms of the other vampire behind his back as Kurt had his hands around the other guy’s throat. The vampire growled and tried to free himself out of Blaine’s grip but Blaine was stronger. He struggled and finally managed to kick Kurt into the stomach and it sent Kurt flying through the room.
“Kurt!” Blaine yelped and let go of the man. He was at Kurt’s side the blink of an eye later and helped him up. “Are you okay?”
“Yes, I’m-- Blaine, look out!” Kurt pulled Blaine aside to protect him from the now attacking vampire, but it was not necessary anymore because the man couldn’t move. He was floating a foot above the ground, held only by Blaine’s thoughts and not able to move a single muscle.
“It’s okay, Kurt. I’ve got him.” Blaine said soothingly. He embraced Kurt rubbing his back gently. He kept the thought that held the vampire restrained locked inside his head before turning towards him. “Now, tell me,” Blaine began, as he started walking around the floating figure. “What do you want from us?”
The was no answer except for a growl. Blaine concentrated on the man’s throat and put more and more pressure on it until the vampire was screaming.
“Speak.” Blaine said calmly. “What do you want from us?”
“I don’t want anything from him. Whoever he is. I only want you. I want you dead!” The man spat out. “You, Blaine Anderson, I want you dead. And believe me, I am not the only one.”
Blaine stopped walking and his eyes darkened. “What have I done to you that you want me dead?”
The man laughed. “It’s not anything you’ve done. It’s your power. No one deserves to be this powerful and especially not you. Look at you. You’re a child!”
“I have easily about 150 years on you, so you are not one to talk. As to my power, I can shift and I have an ability. What about it?”
“You have no idea, do you?”
Blaine stood right before the man and glared at him. “Stop this secrecy or I will rip your throat out. With my teeth.”
“Blaine...” Kurt grabbed Blaine’s arm from the back but Blaine wrenched himself free.
Again the vampire chuckled darkly. “I came here thinking I could easily take you out. I thought I would return as a hero to my coven having killed Blaine Anderson. The Shifter, the red-eyed one, the most powerful creature on this planet. But I guess I was wrong.” He retracted his fangs before continuing. “I don’t have anything to lose, do I? So let this be a warning: People are coming for you. Assuming that is your mate, they will be after him, too, very soon. They want you dead for obvious reasons. You, Anderson, have no idea what you are capable of. We know all about you, your past and even your future.”
“What is that supposed to mean?”
“There is a vampire, somewhere in northern Europe, that has the ability to see the future and the past of a person. All he needs is that person’s blood. Well,” He paused and took a deep breath. “Someone brought him your blood and he has seen what you will become. And everyone fears it.” He laughed. “To be honest, that vampire I’m talking about, that’s me.”
Blaine could barely process what the vampire told him. That guy could see the past and future? Who gave him Blaine’s blood? What was all of this supposed to mean? What would happen in the future? What would he become that every other vampire would want him dead? All these thoughts somehow always brought him back to the same one: Damien had been right. He was getting stronger. He was changing and it meant incredible danger to him as well as to everyone he loved.
Including Kurt.
“You say you have seen my past. So, you must know who turned me. Who? Who was it?” Blaine surged forward, his fangs extended and a growl ever present in his throat.
“Oh, yes, I know. And I also know the source of that power of yours. Your sire did something to you, when he turned you, but I have not told anyone what he did. No one knows but me. If they did, they would simply make more of your kind.”
“Then tell me who turned me!” Blaine hissed.
“No.”
“Why not?”
“Because I don’t want to.” He said slowly.
Blaine growled and increased the pressure of his hold on the man. “Then what about the future? What is it that you’re so afraid of?” Blaine whispered. “What could possibly become of me that would scare all of you?”
“They call you the red-eyed one. I believe you can imagine what that means.”
Blaine hissed at him. “I’m done playing games with you.”
“If you kill me, you’ll never find out why you are different. No one knows except for your sire and me.”
“Then that knowledge will die with you. I don’t care. And besides,” Blaine took a step closer, “After what you just told me, I believe my sire is still alive. Meaning, I have no use for you anymore.”
Blaine stepped away and released the hold he had on the vampire. When he fell to the ground Blaine concentrated on nothing but causing him pain. Horrendous pain, crushing every bone in his body and attacking every single nerve. The scream that came from the man was bloodcurdling.
Kurt took a step back from Blaine as he felt the waves of anger mixed with incredibly ferocious power roll off of his mate. Never had he experienced Blaine like that. Not even the days before graduation could measure up to this. Kurt didn’t know what it meant but his instinct kicked in instantly, telling him to get away or at least to fight. But why? He had no need to be afraid of Blaine. His mate would never hurt him.
The screams of the man died suddenly when Blaine shot forward ripping his head off with a sickening crack.
What am I doing?
He didn’t feel very much like himself. He was not even sure what he had done to the vampire, only knowing that he caused him pain beyond imagination. He turned around to Kurt, breathing heavily, not too sure about what had just happened to him, and hesitating when Kurt took another step back from him.
“Kurt...?”
Kurt covered his mouth with his hand. “Your eyes...”
“What about my eyes?” Even though he expected the answer, it would have stopped his heart, if it was only capable of beating.
“They’re red.”
I hope you enjoyed this one. It’s starting the actual plot of this story, so be prepared. Thanks for sticking with me and let me know what you think about it.
