“I still can’t believe he kissed you!”
“Mercedes, again, it was only on the cheek.”
Mercedes grinned widely at her best friend, continuing down the hallway linked arm in arm. It was almost lunchtime, meaning Kurt had to meet Blaine in the choir room to discuss their duet for next week. But not before Mercedes wanted to talk about yesterday’s coffee date, which she had already heard last night and this morning. Still, Kurt couldn’t blame her for being excited. Kurt hadn’t had a boyfriend since…
“It was still a kiss!” Mercedes exclaimed. “Oh, looks like we’re here! Have fun with Blaine” she giggled, kissing him lightly on the cheek. “I’ll talk to you later!”
“OK.” Kurt muttered, taking a deep breath before entering the choir room.

He was once again greeted to Blaine playing another beautiful melody on the grand piano. As hard as Kurt tried to wait, he just couldn’t stop himself from surging straight into the room, eyes locked on Blaine’s fingers tickling the ivories, completely entranced by the mesmerizing sounds he was creating so fluidly.
Blaine didn’t ignore Kurt’s entrance, as he turned his head slightly and smiled his dazzling smile right at Kurt, causing Kurt to sigh quietly. Blaine continued to play whilst Kurt dug inside his bag to reveal a large pile of sheet music.
“You’re so good” Kurt smiled “like really good.”
“Thank you” Blaine blushed “I’m guessing you have many choices for our duet next week?” he nodded his head towards the exceedingly large stack of paper beside him, yet continued to play.
“I’m nothing if not organised” Kurt joked, as Blaine ended the song with a flourish of his fingers. “Why did you pick that song to play?”
Blaine turned to Kurt with a slight twinkle in his eyes. “Personal favourite” he shrugged “and I felt it was appropriate to play at this time.”
“Why’s that?”
“Well,” Blaine began “considering I’ve somehow managed to get you to talk to me, I’m not going to stop until…well…” he ducked his head, trying hard not to show his bright red cheeks.
“Until what?” Kurt whispered tentatively.
“…Until you like me, I guess.” Blaine mumbled. Kurt saw the hurt in Blaine’s eyes surfacing, making him gulp. The lump in his throat grew as Blaine continued. “Listen, Kurt. I know you said that you weren’t particularly fond of me, but I’m going to do my best to change that. This may sound shallow, but your opinion means a lot to me, well, your opinion especially. And, not to sound cheesy, but I will go the distance to prove to you that I’m worthy of your time.”
Kurt chuckled at Blaine’s heartfelt speech, blushing also at Blaine’s flattering choice of words.
“You’re already half way there.”
Blaine smiled, and began to rummage through the sheet music. The two of them both had many different ideas, but after narrowing down their ideas, it was the end of lunch, meaning the end of their so called “date”, as Blaine had put it so bluntly via text.
“Are you going to Jack’s party tomorrow night?”
Kurt turned and found Blaine staring at him openly with bright eyes. He smiled and replied easily.
“Yeah, are you?”
“I was thinking about it, but I don’t have a date…” Blaine winked.
Kurt chuckled at his attempt of flirting, but felt obligated to return the gesture. “Me either, but I was going to go anyway, keep up appearances and such.”
Blaine strolled slowly towards him, hands in his tight red jeans pocket, leaving Kurt frozen by the piano, too anxious to move anywhere. Blaine’s usually sparkling gold eyes almost turned black, yet still somehow managed to sparkle just as bright. He stepped closer and closer until Kurt could feel Blaine’s breath on him. It wasn’t unpleasant, far from it, but still, Kurt wasn’t used to people being in his personal space as much as Blaine was right now. However, the thought quickly left Kurt’s mind when he noticed just how perfectly shaped Blaine’s luscious lips looked like at that moment. Blaine ignored Kurt’s frozen stature and continued.
“Well, surely Kurt Hummel can’t turn up to a party alone. What would people think?”
Kurt giggled. “To be perfectly honest, I really don’t think they would care –“
“Oh, but I think they would” Blaine interrupted, taking Kurt’s hand in his own and squeezing it gently. “After all, you’re Kurt Hummel. And as far as I’m aware, you’re the number one trendsetter at McKinley.”
What is he trying to achieve here? Kurt wondered, pondering Blaine’s amazing, yet incredibly corny, flirting skills. A few days ago, Kurt couldn’t stand this boy. He found him annoying, dull, spoilt, and arrogant. But now, here he was, getting flustered by a few flattering comments from a boy he had once, and possibly, just a little bit, still despised.
Kurt was stubborn, he’d be the first to admit it, but the fact Blaine made him change his opinion in just a few days astounded him. Maybe his opinion hadn’t completely changed, not yet, but he was willing to keep himself open minded, and was going to try and be a lot more, well, a lot more like Blaine. Lovable Blaine. Approachable Blaine. Blaine.
Kurt sighed, looking at the hand clasped to his own beside him.
“I don’t believe turning up to a party alone would change anyone’s opinions about my clothing.”
“You and I both know that was not what I meant.” Blaine smirked.
“Oh?” Kurt smiled, tilting his head slightly in a jokingly questioning fashion.
“Seeing as you’re going to this party alone, and I’m also going to the same party alone, why don’t we go together?” Blaine asked, staring deeply into Kurt’s crystal blue eyes. Blaine found himself doing that a lot lately, there was just something about Kurt’s eyes that just made him stare, adoringly so. He couldn’t help himself, they were just so wonderfully, beautifully blue.
“Hmm…” Kurt mumbled, looking up to the ceiling as if in deep thought. Finally, he let go of Blaine’s hand, much to Blaine’s protest, brushed past the love struck boy, grabbed his bag and answered accordingly. “…let me get back to you.”
Blaine turned and stared at Kurt in disbelief. “What?”
“Let me think about it. I’ll text you my answer tomorrow.”
Blaine grinned as Kurt turned with a flourish and began to strut out of the choir room.
“Kurt Hummel, are you trying to play hard to get?” Blaine yelled after the boy, who still stomped his way down the hallway with as much, if not more attitude than Mercedes Jones.
Kurt ignored Blaine’s yell, as what Blaine accused Kurt of, was in fact, true.
Sure, Kurt wanted to go to Jack’s party with Blaine. But as Blaine had very much mentioned to Kurt earlier that hour, Blaine was willing to prove to Kurt just how much he was worthy of Kurt’s time, and Kurt wasn’t going to let the opportunity to see Blaine work hard for his affection slide that easily.
Was it mean of him? Of course not. Kurt Hummel was a good person; at least, people thought he was. Nowadays, whatever people thought of him seemed to be more important than what he thought of himself. But, he loved himself, and people loved him, therefore, he must be a good person, right?
Kurt found a questioning Mercedes at the end of the hallway, ready to escort him to his next class. Kurt opened his mouth wide, ready to dish all the details until Mercedes stopped him with a raised hand.
“OK. Before you tell me about your little date with Blaine” Kurt cringed slightly. He didn’t mind when him or Blaine called their meetings “dates”, but when Mercedes said it, it made it sound so serious; they had only met twice after all. “I’ve got some news!”
“Oooh” Kurt raised an eyebrow, “do tell!”
“So, you know Jack’s party is tomorrow night?” Kurt nodded “Well, you know I was going to go alone?”
“Technically, you were going to go with me Mercedes…”
“Shh!” Mercedes hissed, shutting Kurt up immediately. “Well, someone actually asked me to go with them!”
Kurt smiled, glad to see Mercedes so excited. “Who?”
“Sam. Evans. You know? From Glee Club?”
Kurt knew Sam. Knew him far too well in fact, after his embarrassing attempts of seduction last year. Still, from all his digging on him last year, he knew that Sam was a good match for Mercedes, so gave Mercedes a nod and peck on the cheek to acknowledge that as long as she was happy, he would be too.
“Glad you approve” she giggled, “now, tell me you’re not going to Jack’s party alone?”
Kurt huffed out a sigh, yet quickly regained his normal bitch-smirk that he knew would drive Mercedes crazy until he saw her next, which would be at the party tomorrow night. “Maybe. Maybe not. You’ll just have to wait and see.”
