Chapter two.
I didn't know where to go from there. I was seriously stressing out about leaving work. All I ever did was work and I really didn't know what I'd do with myself. I was torn between going through with it, and calling it off completely. But I felt as if I needed to do it. Explore the world. Not really the world but.. It would be good for me. To get away. Explore... Myself.
So later that week, I called Isabelle. We talked for a short amount of time, and it was a blur but I can remember what we said.
"Kurt, this would be so good for you. To get away. When was the last time you got a little time to yourself?" She asked.
"Never. I always work. Which... I love... But you know... I need to find myself. Some how."
After I said it, I knew it was true. I didn't really know where it came from, but I knew it was exactly true. She agreed with me. She gave me comfort and support. She got it. I just remember praising to whatever's up there. 'SHE GETS IT'. She said something about maybe coming out of my shell when I get home. Meeting new people and getting into things other than work. That'd be nice. I figured what she said was just rubage and something she just / Said /. But later I realized, it wasn't.
Anyway. We bid our goodbyes around nine. I was feeling better after our conversation. And, to my surprise, happy. I sighed in content. It was rejuvenating to feel like someone possibly understood... Something about me. And I slept really well that night.
*****
The next morning, I woke to the sound of my alarm clock I set to always go off at seven. Every morning. I sat up with a groan and hit the damn thing with my fist. I drew the blankets off of me. I sat for a minute, allowing my body to realize that it's awake. Five minutes went by before I found myself in the kitchen, brewing coffee in mykeurig. That usually takes about five minutes, so I decided to make a real breakfast. I realized that I didn't have to work for the next five months, so I might as well start my vacation with something delicious. So, I descended to the fridge, opening the doors and scanning the inside. Lets see... Eggs... Various fruits and vegetables... I stood there a while, opening and closing droors. It took a few minutes before I knew exactly what I would make.
I busied myself, placing a cast iron pan on the stove, adding a tablespoon or so of coconut oil, which I prefer over butter because I like to stay healthy. I didn't put the heat on yet, so it sat there in the pan as I chopped tomato, basil, onion and ham. I grated sharp cheddar in a separate bowl. Once that was all set, I turned the stove on. I lit the flame under the pan to medium-low, so it could heat slowly. As it did, sizzling with the heat melting it down, I whisked three egg whites in a small clear bowl. I added salt and pepper, dried parsley, and a small drop of tabasco sauce. I mixed thoroughly and it foamed at the sides. As I poured my egg mixture into the pan, it flattened so it was covering the bottom completely. When I knew that the bottom was cooked through, I hesitantly flipped it. Now, I haven't done it in a while, so the result surprised me. It came out perfect. I watched as it sizzled, then added the tomato, cheese, basil, and ham to the middle if the golden brown, pancake like, top. I folded the sides over to the middle in a three way fold. Once I saw the cheese melt, oozing out the sides a bit, I carefully opened the cabinet over the stove, pulling down my black plate, taking the egg and plated it. Then topped it off with more cheese and pre-chopped chives.
I ate at the kitchen table with the forms from Blaine's website. I took small sips of the steamy mocha brew, and stuffed big bites of my creation into my mouth. My hand moved so fast, my pen could hardly keep up. I knew all the answers, they were basic things. Such as my name, number, age, zip code, city, address, yadayadayada...
I felt really good. And it was a strange feeling. I've never felt that happy. But even then I knew that it was only the beginning of the next five months. It said at the bottom to either send through mail or fax. And I had a perfectly good fax machine. So I addressed it to his Florida spot and sat back at the kitchen table. I found that I ate my entire omelette, drank all my coffee and made a huge mess. So I scrubbed my dishes clean and set them on the rack to dry.
Later that day, I decided to take a break from Tumblr and watch Finding Nemo. I was about thirty minutes into the movie when my phone rang. I then realized I just had to change my ringtone because, I mean come on...
And as the Pokemon theme song continued to echo through the apartment, I rummaged through to find it. And it sat just above my head, on the shelf above the television. I reached up to grab it, luckily I was on time. The caller ID read 'St. Petersburg, Florida' and a random number. I knew it was Blaine so I hit 'receive'.
"Hello?" I said.
"Hi, umm..." I heard..."Kurt Hummel?"
"This is him..."
"Hi! It's Blaine we've spoken before about the Sunset Beauty cottage..." He said.
"Oh yeah... I just-"
"Sent the forms. I have them. Thank you. So you plan to be here by Friday?"
"Yes. That's right."
"Okay. So we'll be expecting you in just two days then..."
"Yeah."
"Well I just wanted to confirm that and I will text you the directions to the area from the airport. I'll be waiting for you there."
"Okay. Thank you so much."
"Have a good night, Kurt."
"You too... Bye."
*****
The following day, after my confirmation with Blaine, I spent packing. I had a large and a medium-large suit case. I packed cloths, toiletries, blankets,,, etc. I knew the place was going to be furnished. So I had no worries on that subject. I booked my flight fortomorrow morningvia the Internet, so all I needed to do was choose my outfit for the next day. After I finished zipping my suitcase, I picked from the rest of the cloths I decided not to bring. I ended up choosing a pair of purple skinny jeans and a hoodie, considering I'd be on and off planes all day. I really didn't want to have discomfort or anything relevant.
That night, I decided to go to sleep early, knowing I'd be waking up earlier than usual. But, knowing me... I'd still make a fuss and procrastinate. Anyway, I found myself able to sleep soundly until morning came around.
The morning went by quickly. I showered, brushed my teeth, did my hair, shimmied in my jeans, made and consumed my coffee and headed out the door with my luggage. When I got outside, I whistled for a cab that stopped immediately. I packed the trunk and settled in the back seat saying, "closest New York airport, please."
*****
I sighed, resting my head on the back of my seat. I had been on the plane for about three hours, doing various things on my laptop, and we were about to be landing. By the time I exited the platform, I was wide awake and filled with excitement. Maybe it was the air plane coffee.
I spent twenty minutes at luggage claim before finding my luggage successfully. I carried my carryon(hens the name) on my back while walking along with a handle in each hand, suitcase rolling behind me. I felt a warm breeze as I stepped out into the Florida air. I saw people rushing around, struggling with luggage and getting into cabs. Suddenly, I felt my phone buzz in my back pocket. I pulled it out , looked at the caller ID, recognized the name and pressed the green 'recieve' button.
"Hello?" I said.
"Hey, are you in?" Blaine said.
"Yeah, I'm waiting for a cab..."
"No need. I sent someone to wait for you. She should be outside near the entrance. She'll hold up a sign."
"Oh. Wow, thank you. Um... I think I'll just go look for her. See you soon." I said, scanning the area. I heard a muffled 'okay' before seeing a blonde girl holding up a purple sign with my name on it. I slowly walked to her, catching her attention.
"Hi," I greeted. She smiled big, lowering the sign.
"Hi! Blaine sent me to pick you up. Are you read?" She said, collecting me in a hug.
"Yeah. I'm really glad you're here." I stated, watching her open the trunk and put my bags inside.
"Well, I was more than happy to get you. I don't do anything, really. Just play with my toes. I'm Britney, by the way." She opened my door for me, ushering me inside. I closed the door as she rounded the car to get in her own seat.
As we got onto the highway, I lost myself in the view. There were beautiful trees, just turning a summer green. Other cars drive peacefully, unlike those in New York. I was so fulfilled with the feelings of content and happiness and I still didn't know why.
