Author's Notes:

The end!

Too soon for Kurt's liking, he had to answer questions from the police about the attack. Not only was he nervous about speaking in general, he wasn't sure what they were going to ask him and he couldn't remember anything that was really helpful. He started speaking less as the time grew nearer, but that was expected as he'd only just started speaking again.

Most of the bruises had cleared up, but he still had a few cuts and some were starting to scar lightly. His lip had mostly healed, but you could still tell that it had been swollen as it was slightly purple and there was a cut on the edge of it. Kurt didn't mind the bruises and cuts, really, he just wanted his ribs and leg to heal so that he could finally get out of the wheelchair he hated so much.

“Kurt,” Burt called up the stairs where Kurt was in his room with Blaine. “They're here.”

Kurt hid his face in his hands, wishing that it would make him disappear and he wouldn't have to face anyone.

“Hey,” Blaine said softly, pulling Kurt's hands away from his face. “You'll be fine. Come on.” He said, getting up and lifting Kurt into his wheelchair before gently taking him downstairs. He wheeled Kurt into the living room and positioned his chair opposite where the officers were sitting.

“Can Blaine stay with me?” Kurt asked his dad quietly.

Burt looked across to the officers, unsure of how to answer. One of them nodded, saying, “If it makes you more comfortable.”

Blaine sat down on the edge of the coffee table, knowing Kurt would probably scold him about it later but not caring, and put his hand on Kurt's back comfortingly.

“Okay, so while you were in the hospital you said that you remembered four men, is this correct?”

Kurt nodded, fiddling with his hands.

“Do you remember any of the weapons, if any, that they used or what they did when they attacked you?”

“Um…I remember they mostly just kicked me at first…one of them had a bat but I didn't see anything else.”

Kurt tried not to look at the officer who was scribbling notes down while he spoke as it made him feel uncomfortable. He brought a hand up to rub his eyes as he felt tears pooling there at the memories of being attacked.

“Did you see what they were wearing or notice any features that stood out?”

Kurt shook his head, a tear escaping his eye. “I…They were wearing black, that was the only thing I saw.”

“Do you remember if they were tall? Short? Muscular?”

“I don't know.” Kurt said, shaking his head as more tears left his eyes, trying to swallow down a sob.

“Could you try to remember?” The other officer asked. “We don't really have much to go on right now.”

“I didn't see anything,” Kurt cried, wiping his eyes. “All I remember is being pulled away, pushed over and kicked, punched and hit over and over again.”

"Okay, Im taking him upstairs to rest," Blaine said, standing up and beginning to wheel him towards the living room door before stopping and turning around towards the police officers. "I appreciate that you need answers but he doesnt remember anything right now and he clearly isnt in the right mind for this yet."

"Blaine," Burt said softly, stopping Blaine from leaving the room once again.

"Look at him!" Blaine shouted suddenly as Kurt brought a hand up to rub the tears from his face. "Can you honestly tell me that you want your son to sit through an interrogation that he can't answer when hes like this?"

Burt sighed, allowing Blaine to wheel Kurt out of the room. He took the shaking boy into the kitchen and knelt down in front of his wheelchair, smiling sadly and running his fingers through Kurt's hair. "Are you okay?"

Kurt shook his head, sniffling a little as more wet tears ran down his face. "Im such an idiot." Kurt cried brokenly.

"What? No. Why are you an idiot?" Blaine asked softly.

"I cant even answer a few questions and...and..."

"Kurt, no. Youve been through a lot, nobody should expect you to be able to do this right now."

"But the longer it takes me to answer their questions, the longer itll take them to find whoever attacked me. Somebody could be getting attacked by them right now just because I cant remember anything...thats not okay Blaine." Kurt said, sobbing uncontrollably as Blaine enveloped him in a soft hug, playing with the hair at the nape of his neck.

Blaine felt so bad for Kurt. He'd been attacked and left for dead, he was stuck in a wheelchair and he had questions he couldn't answer being shoved in his face, but the only reason he was upset about being unable to give the police information was because he wanted to stop other people from getting hurt…he really didn't care about himself that much.

“Can you take me upstairs and hold me, please?” Kurt asked brokenly through his tears, detaching himself from Blaine.

“Yeah,” Blaine said softly, smiling at his boyfriend for a few moments before standing up and taking Kurt upstairs. He lifted the sixteen year old onto his bed and pulled the covers over him before climbing in next to him, wrapping his arms around him and allowing him to snuggle up to his chest. “Can I ask you a question?” Blaine asked, carding his fingers through Kurt's hair. Kurt nodded, wrapping his arms around Blaine's middle. “What made you start talking again? I'm just curious because…you said you stopped partly due to bullies but getting attacked made you start again.”

“I…” Kurt took a deep breath. “I was attacked and ended up in a coma for three days…when I woke up, I was scared. I could remember everything vividly and it kind of felt like I was dying but you were there for me almost straight away. When I woke up the second time, I realised I was still in your arms and I just…I felt so safe. I felt like nobody could ever hurt me again, even if they wanted to, because I had you there to protect me. I didn't feel so scared to speak anymore because you made me feel safe and protected…I didn't have to be afraid anymore.”

Blaine was speechless. Not only was that the most he'd ever heard Kurt say at one time, but he had no idea he had that much of an impact on Kurt…that he encouraged him to start speaking again. At the lack of response, Kurt looked up at Blaine.

“I…Kurt…” Blaine said, bringing his hand up to pull his fingers through Kurt's hair, gently cupping his cheek.

“I love you.” Kurt said quietly.

“I love you too,” Blaine replied, unable to stop himself from grinning widely. “I…I think I've always been in love with you.” He said with a chuckle.

Kurt grinned, hiding his face in Blaine's t-shirt. “I'm really glad you paired up with me for that stupid English project.”

“Me too,” Blaine laughed, pressing a kiss to the top of Kurt's head before holding him for a few minutes in silence. “Hey Kurt?”

Kurt moved his head to look up at Blaine. “Ye -” Kurt cut off by Blaine pressing a gentle kiss to his lips, making sure he didn't hurt him as he was still bruised.

“I love you,” Blaine smiled against Kurt's lips. “I love you, I love you, I love you.”

Kurt giggled, moving his head back to where it previously was and pressing a kiss over Blaine's heart through his t-shirt. He didn't know how it happened, but Kurt managed to overcome his biggest fear and fall in love with the most amazing person he'd ever met in the process.
