Blaine knew something was wrong the second that Kurt got home from school, slammed the front door and ran up to his bedroom in tears.
"Kurt?" Blaine called, running up the stairs and knocking on his door before slowly entering the room and sitting on the edge of the bed next to Kurt, who was curled up on one side crying his eyes out. "Hey, what happened?" He asked, rubbing soothing circles over the thirteen year old's arm.
Kurt began to cry harder and the only words Blaine could properly make out were "teasing", "me" and "gay".
"Kurt, you need to try and breathe, I can't understand what you're saying." Blaine said calmly.
"People in school were teasing me and they said that I'm gay because I like clothes and singing," Kurt cried. "I'm not gay!" He exclaimed as if he needed to prove something, it sort of took Blaine by surprise as Kurt wasn't normally that loud when he spoke.
"Okay, well whether you are or not, it's fine." Blaine said as Kurt sat up and crossed his arms over his chest.
"I'm not."
"Okay," Blaine said, rubbing circles over Kurt's back.
"Can I stay at Rachel's house tonight?" Kurt asked quietly. "She asked me earlier but I forgot about it until now."
"Let me call her Dads and make sure it's okay."
"Okay." Kurt sniffed as Blaine got off of the bed and left the room, not before dropping a kiss to Kurt's forehead.
An hour and a half later, Blaine was driving Kurt to Rachel's house. It was the first time that Kurt was spending a night away from Blaine since he'd adopted him and he wasn't sure how it would turn out, but he was all for trying.
"If you want to come home or if you just need to speak to me or whatever, just ask one of Rachel's dads to call me, or ask Rachel to ask them okay?"
Kurt nodded, hugging Blaine before leaving the car and waving shyly at the thirty two year old, who waved back with a small smile. Only once Blaine saw that Kurt was safely inside Rachel's house did he begin to drive home.
"Hey!" Rachel said happily, running down the stairs when her best friend arrived. "Come on, let's go upstairs." She said, pulling Kurt upstairs by his hand.
They watched a movie in silence for about twenty minutes before Kurt spoke.
"I think they're right." Kurt said quietly.
"What?" Rachel asked, confused.
"The people in school...what they said...I think they're right."
"What do you mean?"
"I think...I think I'm gay," Kurt said, biting his lip. "But I don't know, I'm really confused."
"There's nothing wrong with being gay, Kurt."
"I know that, I just don't know how I'm supposed to know. I mean I've never kissed a boy or a girl before." Kurt sighed.
"Do you have a crush on anyone?"
"Not really. I mean I think that some boys are cute but at the same time I think girls are pretty."
"Well my Dads think girls are pretty, but they're as gay as they come," Rachel said, receiving a strange look from Kurt. "Forget I said that."
"Ugh," Kurt groaned, burying his face in a pillow. "Why can't figuring this out be easy? I have no idea what I'm feeling and it's frustrating."
"It's not important now, though."
"It's not important to anyone else but it is to me because it's who I am, and I have no idea who I am right now."
"Okay, close your eyes."
"What-"
"Just do it!" Rachel demanded as Kurt confusedly shut his eyes. "Now, picture your life in...say ten years. What do you see?"
"Not a lot considering I have no idea what I want to do when I'm older."
"Okay, picture your family life then."
"Oh god," Kurt said after a few minutes passed. "I'm gay."
"Wow...that actually worked..."
"I pictured like, a ton of different scenarios and I can't imagine myself being with a girl, Rachel."
"That is perfectly okay, Kurt." Rachel assured him, holding her best friends hands in her own.
"Please don't tell anyone," Kurt said, shaking his head with fear as tears filled his eyes. "I'm not ready for anyone to know, not yet."
"I promise." Rachel said, enveloping Kurt in a hug as a few tears spilled out of his eyes. "You okay?" She asked after a few moments.
Kurt shook his head. "I thought figuring it out would make me feel better but I just feel worse because everyone is going to find out eventually and I'm scared."
"You don't have to tell anyone until you're ready, you know that right?"
"I know but it's still really scary to think about."
"Well, you know that Blaine will be okay with is seeing as he's gay too."
"That really doesn't make me feel better." Kurt said, laughing slightly through his tears.
"Okay, let's put another movie on and I'll be your human teddy bear slash pillow for the night." Rachel smiled, climbing off the bed and putting a different DVD on before returning and letting Kurt snuggle up to her.
"Thank you," Kurt whispered as he rested his head on Rachel's shoulder. "You're the bestest best friend ever."
"I'm pretty sure that isn't a word, but you're welcome." Rachel laughed, hugging Kurt closer to her.
Kurt fell asleep not too much later, feeling a significant amount calmer than he was when he first figured out who he was.
Rachel felt kind of bad for Kurt. In some ways, he wasn't given the time to really figure out who he was and the only reason he really started questioning it was because he was being bullied for it. She was also glad, however, that he had figured it out and was sort of happy that Kurt had confided in her and trusted her to keep his secret as she knew how shy and cautious Kurt was with everyone.
