Kurt made sure to text Mercedes as soon as he finished on the phone with Blaine as he walked back home. Once at home he grabbed an apple and headed downstairs, plopping himself on his bed as he started to go through the texts and voicemails left by his friends over the last few days. He felt bad for not replying to them but he decided to let Mercedes pass the message around that he was just fine.
Once that was done he slipped off the bed and headed towards the washroom. He turned towards the full length mirror after closing the door and sighed softly. He brought his hands down to the bottom of his shirt and pulled it off quickly, placing it on the counter before he turned to look at himself again. He frowned curiously as he let one hand move up to run over his flesh. Had he really been asleep for only a couple of days?
The injuries looked so... old... like he'd gotten them a month ago or something. The bite mark from the leader of the five and the bruising was gone... The bite mark from the wolf was still there but it just looked like a nasty scar now. He wondered what the wound from the knife looked like and tried to maneuver to see it but couldn't see anything from his position... no redness or anything and it didn't hurt.
It didn't make sense to him. The way his dad spoke he'd been hurt really bad so why did he look... so untouched? He scowled at the mirror for a moment before grabbing his top and pulling it back on. He was still confused but he wasn't sure what to do about it. He could always go and ask his doctor but... He had this strong intense feeling that no one should know about this.
He turned towards his computer at this point, sitting down at his desk and turning it on. He quickly popped himself into Google and typed in 'fast healing'. He read through the top few entries that came up and frowned, rolling his eyes, "D&D... Pathfinder... Skyrim... these are all roleplaying games..." he groaned before sighing and adding 'bite' to the search to see what that might bring up.
He sighed as he looked through the new entries... How to heal bug bites and spider bites... how to heal a bitten tongue or cheek or lip... universal monster rules? He groaned softly at this as he shook his head and tried again adding in 'dog' to the search and praying he didn't get anything stupid. All he got were various ways to heal dog bites faster and such which wasn't what he wanted.
He finally deleted the whole entry and tried again. He tried 'super human healing' this time just to see... but all he really got were entries about super hero for the most part.... well... and a couple of people who thought they had super human healing but it sounded kind of ridiculous and the injuries or whatnot that they had were rather minor. Why was he even looking this up? That's right... he's gotten his shoulder sliced open and then torn by a dog and he had pretty much nothing but a scar left after... less then a week? He shook his head at this and sighed.
"No way... my dad lied... must have... probably worried about telling me I was out for a long time or something... but no... impossible..." he mumbled as he checked the date on his computer, "Nope... not lying... What's wrong with me?" he mumbled out, frowning before he moved to turn off the computer. He was getting bored of trying to figure it out anyway and he was kind of hungry again strangely enough. The apple hadn't gotten close to filling him up...
He finally made his way upstairs and began to look around the kitchen. His dad was out at work so he was home alone. He didn't mind though. He was kind of worried about what his dad might think if he saw how 'good' he looked. It wasn't normal... he knew that but he didn't know what was causing it. And honestly... right now he couldn't care less.
"Ugh... we have nothing good in this house..." he mumbled out frowning before standing to check the freezer. He perked up a bit when he spotted some frozen burgers as he moved things around. He figured his dad had hid them there so Kurt wouldn't find them. He had a tendency to try to make sure his dad ate healthier... especially after that heart attack of his. He worried about the other.
Right now though... the idea of a burger actually sounded good so he pulled out the package and took out three burgers and put the rest away. He set up the frying pan and started to cook, humming softly to himself as the scent of the burgers wafted through the room. It smelt really good... usually Kurt wasn't much for junk food and to him this was junk food but he was really craving beef right now...
He finally finished cooking and made himself one burger and just put the other two patties on the side. He wasn't hungry for too much bread just the meat really. He bit into the burger and let his eyes slip shut, enjoying the taste. It wasn't bad... it was good... there was something missing though... he wasn't sure what. And he wasn't sure he liked the mustard and stuff on it either.
He ate the other two patties a bit faster... much better without all the rest of the junk on it. Half-way through the last patty he stopped, however, and frowned, "What's wrong with me?" he asked himself after a moment as he put it down. He suddenly felt like throwing up.
He stood slowly from the table, trembling a little bit and looking down at the half-eaten piece of meat before turning and rushing off towards the washroom. He dropped to his knees in front of the toilet and heaved once before just letting it all out, throwing up until there was nothing left in his stomach.
He pushed himself away from the toilet finally and pressed himself against the wall as he stared at the ceiling for a while. His heart was hammering in his chest as he tried to calm himself down. He was scared truth be told. His mind went through everything that had happened and he couldn't understand any of it right now...
After everything those men did... after what that creature did... why was he acting like this? Why wasn't he hiding in some corner in a fetal position crying and traumatized, tugging at stitches and causing himself to start bleeding all over again from agitating his injuries? Why was he sitting in his washroom at home... starving for meat, barely a scratch on his body and just wanting to get out of this house and back to school to get on with his life?
"What's wrong with me?" Kurt murmured before shaking his head and taking a deep breath. He tensed after a moment, however, head snapping towards the door as he heard the faint echo of the front doorknob being turned and slowly opened. He heard the sound of it closing and someone shrugging off their shoes and he couldn't help but stand and slip out of the washroom.
"Dad?" Kurt asked but he already knew who it was. He smiled weakly as he stepped into the room and spotted his dad moving in his direction. Burt smiled warmly and Kurt gave him a nod, "How was work? You didn't stay too long... you know you don't need to worry about me don't you?"
"Hey... I have every right in the world to worry about you... you're my son," Burt let out as he moved towards Kurt, "I did the paperwork I needed to do... the guys can take care of the rest. Right now I want to be here with you making sure you're ok. It eases my mind seeing you're alright... I can't concentrate on work knowing you're here alone."
"Alright..." Kurt murmured knowing his dad worded things to make it sound like if he went to work he'd have a heart attack on his son or something because he was worrying about him. Kurt didn't mind though... it was somewhat true and he didn't mind spending time with his dad anyway.
Burt smiled at this as he moved towards his son to try and pull him into a hug. As surprised as he was, Kurt allowed it, and Burt pulled him close, wrapping his arms around the other, "I'm proud of you... you're stronger then I could ever have imagined. After everything you went through you look... so good..."
Kurt smiled warmly against his father as he sighed and nodded, "I feel alright..." he murmured as he took in the others scent... it was a scent he knew well ever since he was a baby... it was a scent that meant family, safety and comfort. It was a scent that meant he wasn't alone.
"I'm glad..." Burt said quietly before pulling away, "how's your shoulder?" he asked, wanting to check it out, "Would you like me to change the bandages?" he added after a moment and was a bit surprised when Kurt quickly shook his head and stepped back a bit.
"N... no... I'm fine. I changed the bandages myself this morning. It's fine. I can take care of it... But thanks for offering," Kurt said with a small smile, "Hey... umm... think I could go back to school soon?" he asked after a moment as he looked to his dad, "I'm getting a little antsy here... cabin fever... you know how it is," he said. It was true too... he felt like a caged animal.
"I guess... you can go whenever you're ready. But are you sure you're ready for it Kurt? I know you don't like getting behind in your classes but I don't want you to push yourself just because of that. If you aren't ready I don't want you to go back," the older of the two said with a slight frown.
"I'm ready... really I am. I just really wanna get out of here. I want things to go back to the way they were. I miss my friends and I miss Glee Club," Kurt let out with a shrug and Burt frowned a bit but nodded to his son though he wasn't completely convinced it was a good idea.
"Alright... if you want to go back tomorrow you can go back. It's friday but it'll be a good slow start. I just don't want you overdoing it... And remember Kurt... things might never really go back to the way they were... and that's ok. What you went through is a life changing thing..." He uttered out, reaching out to run a hand through Kurt's hair, "Keep your phone on you alright? Call me if you need me. I'll have my phone on me at all times..."
"Deal!" Kurt let out, beaming at his father as he moved to hug the other before pulling away, "I need to go find the perfect back to school outfit and I seriously need to start my moisturizing routine... I missed like four whole days and my skin is horrible..."
"Alright, alright... you go do that..." he chuckled out at his son who turned to rush back to his basement bedroom to get ready for the next day. He smiled warmly and nodded a bit. Maybe Kurt really was ready to move on. Though the doctors had told him everyone dealt with these things differently and some people didn't fully 'deal' with it until years later... sometimes it would all pop back at some random moment in their future and it would all come crashing down... He prayed that wouldn't be the case for his son... Kurt had been through enough already... if he was recovering this well he hoped it stayed like that.
