The next couple of days were spent in the hospital, Kurt recuperating from his injuries. His father had managed to get him to talk more and allow him to touch him. Kurt wasn't freaking out anymore though he did flinch when a doctor or nurse tried to touch him. He also glared at them if they caused him any kind of pain like giving him needles and such but he stayed calm and his father was so glad he seemed to be recovering so well now.
Carole and Finn had started visiting more often now that Kurt was awake, trying to keep him company. Finn brought him his homework from school and did what he could to help the other with it when Kurt was feeling up to doing it. But neither Carole nor Finn touched Kurt... they weren't sure he was ready for that.
It had been a rocky start but finally Kurt had permission to go home. As they were preparing to slip out his father looked over to him and sighed, "We're going to have to talk to the police before going home. I promised them once you were discharged we'd go so you could give a statement about everything that happened. I know you don't want to talk about it Kurt... but it needs to be said... they need to know the details."
Kurt frowned at his fathers words as he buttoned up his shirt, eyes turning to the ground as he murmured out, "I... I don't want to talk about it... What does it matter anyway? They're all dead... those creeps can't hurt me anymore so why do I have to tell them about it?" he whispered out, trembling a bit before clenching his fists as he pulled them away from his top. He was angry... angry at those men and at himself for being so weak... he was angry at himself for still being so nervous too. For some reason he just... he felt like he shouldn't be afraid of them... of anyone...
"Kurt... buddy... Five people died. The police need the details even if it's only to tell their families about what happened. It needs to be documented. Ok?" Burt uttered out, moving to pull Kurt into a hug as he sighed, rubbing his back, "It's ok... I'll be right there with you and as soon as you're done answering the questions as best you can... we can go home... and if you really don't want to answer any more just say so... They can't force you but you need to try."
"Alright..." Kurt whispered out as Burt pulled away before the teen finished buttoning his shirt, a bit of a scowl on his face. He didn't want to do this. He didn't want anyone to know... not the cops... and certainly not anyone he knew. He finally looked up and sighed, "I don't want this getting out, dad..." he admitted quietly, embarrassed. He didn't want anyone to know he'd been raped.
His father shook his head and ran a hand over his cheek, "No one has to know. The police can't give that kind of information out. There might be something about the deaths of those men but nothing about you being there too. Just that some dangerous animal killed five people. They do need to warn people that that creature is out there," he said as Kurt grabbed his vest and slipped it on carefully with Burt's help, giving a nod to his father.
Kurt finished getting dressed, with his father's help and his dad signed the discharge papers before they headed out and into the car. They drove to the police station and Kurt stared out the window the whole time. He seemed to have calmed down a bit but inside he was getting more nervous by the minute.
Once they reached the station Burt parked and looked to Kurt, "you alright buddy? Do you need a couple minutes?" he asked as he patted the others shoulder. He knew this would be hard on Kurt and he felt horrible making him do it... but the police really did need to talk to him before the events of the attack got distorted or forgotten in his memory.
"No... No, I just wanna get this over with," Kurt murmured out, sighing before taking a deep breath and giving a nod to his dad as he slipped out of the car. Burt got out and moved next to Kurt, putting an arm on his shoulder as the two of them headed into the station.
"We're here to see Sergent Philips," Burt explained as they walked up to the front desk. The woman there nodded and lifted an eyebrow, looking them over before checking something on her computer, "Alright... your names?" she asked calmly, looking expectantly at Kurt's father.
"Burt and Kurt Hummel," Burt stated with a nod to the woman who smiled warmly and nodded, "Alright... if you'll take a seat I'll go and let Sergent Philips know you've arrived," she said as she stood and headed off. Burt motioned Kurt over to a seat and they sat down, taking a few minutes to relax.
After about fifteen minutes an older man in uniform came out, smiling warmly as he greeted them, "Hello there... I'm Sergent Philips. Please, follow me..." he said calmly as Kurt and Burt stood up. Burt reached out, letting his hand rest on Kurt's back as they walked. He knew Kurt was nervous...
Kurt stayed close to his dad as they were led to an office. The Sergent moved to sit down, motioning for the other two males to take the seats in front of the desk. Burt smiled and nodded to the nervous Kurt who sat down, sitting as well as they looked to the Sergent.
"Relax... There's nothing to be afraid of," Philips said calmly, smiling warmly to Kurt. He knew the kid had been through hell and back and knew he had to be gentle or the kid might just clam up completely and he'd never get any of his questions answered.
"Y... yes sir..." Kurt said quietly as he took a deep breath, calming himself as the man smiled to him. Kurt was nervous but he was determine at the same time... determined not to look weak... not to break down in front of this stranger and his father. He was stronger then that.
"Alright, good," the man said calmly, giving a nod, "Now... I know it' hard but I need you to tell me exactly what happened that night... Straight from why you were out in the city at night to the last thing you remember before passing out... Okay? You're not going to get into trouble or anything. We just need all the details..."
Kurt nodded and shivered a bit as he let out a breath, "My car was in the shop being fixed so I decided to walk home from my friends place... I was going past that alley and some guy was walking towards him. I tried to step around him but he wouldn't let me get past... I backed up onto to bump into another guy who pulled me into the alley..."
"I should made sure you knew not to walk home. I could have picked you up if you'd called me..." Burt frowned as he listened to the others words, sighing softly as he reached out, putting a hand over Kurt's, feeling the light shivers that went through the others body.
"I'm sorry dad..." he whispered out, trembling as he took a deep breath and continued, "I tried to get away... but... I couldn't... they tied me up with my own belt and..." he went silent at this point, looking away and the Sergent frowned and shook his head, "You don't have to go into detail about that part... how did those men die Kurt? Do you remember? The coroner said that the wounds were from some kind of large canine..."
"I remember..." he whispered out, staring at the ground, "It was dark and I didn't know what was happening at first. Just that they'd pulled away from me. I heard the growling and then screaming. I was scared and I managed to push myself over to the wall. I saw... I saw it bite the dark brown haired guy first. It was huge... and there was... it was horrible..."
"The guy with the girly brown hair... he was already dead before I'd managed to turn myself to see. I saw his body, eyes open and his... face clawed open..." he let out, stomach churning. He was shocked, however, that he hadn't started crying or anything. He was scared and disgusted talking about this but... he didn't break down...
"I screamed at that point, hoping someone would hear me..." he said, closing his eyes as he nodded, "Then the guy with the long hair went for the things side only to have it twist and jump at him... biting his hand clean off before tearing into his throat... After that the creature sliced the check of the black haired guy... the first one I'd seen outside the alley. It ripped his throat open too."
"The leader tried to run but that... thing... dog or whatever it was... it ran and jumped on the wall and pushed off to land in front of him. I remember the man's pleading... and then... the creature just going at him... clawing and tearing and ripping at the man's flesh as he screamed... I figured when he stopped moving and the screamed died that he was probably dead..." Kurt let out, putting a hand over his mouth after a moment. He almost felt like throwing up and his father reached out to run a hand over his back gently.
"It's ok Kurt... take a few deep breaths. We're not in a rush..." The Sergent said calmly, frowning at the kid. He felt back for making him relive all this. Clearly it had been worse then he'd thought... So much worse... And this kid had seen it all... He felt bad because he knew something like this... wasn't something you could forget. It would probably affect the kid for the rest of his life.
"I'm... I'm ok..." Kurt let out, looking to his father who remained quiet. He smiled weakly and gave a nod, "The dog... thing... came towards me at this point. I closed my eyes and I could hear it's claws on the pavement. All I could think was that I was next... I was going to die... then a snarl and the sharp pain... It hurt so much... But the thing pulled away and I was shocked until I heard the sirens... I figure they scared it off..."
"Sounds like this thing was pretty big. Can you tell me what it looked like?" the Sergent asked, writing notes the entire time. He prayed that the kid was over exaggerating his story but from what he'd seen at the scene of the 'murders'... he had a feeling he didn't need to exaggerate.
"Right..." Kurt murmured and frowned, "I guess it was some kind of dog or something. If it was a dog it had to have been something like a mix of Great Dane, Long Haired Husky and Saint Bernard... This thing was huge... It had bright piercing yellow eyes and dark fur. Maybe black but it could have easily been dark brown too..."
"Right... alright. We'll see if we can track this thing down. In the meantime I want you to go home and get some rest. If you can think of anything that might help us call me... alright?" He said grabbing a business card and holding it out for Burt to take, "We'll find this thing and we'll make sure it can't hurt anyone else..."
"Alright..." Kurt murmured quietly as he nodded and Burt moved to stand, letting out a sigh, "Thank you Sergent... I hope you find that thing quick," he said, looking to Kurt and smiling weakly, "you did really well kiddo..." he stated as he squeezed Kurt's shoulder gently.
"He did... I'm surprised you did so well. I know it must have been hard and I know what you saw was horrible... I just hope that the knowledge that those men can't hurt you anymore and that creature's going to be taken care of might be enough to let you sleep soundly," Philips stated.
Burt nodded as Kurt stood, staying quiet now, his fathers hand resting on his arm gently, stroking it to keep his son calm and to let him know he was right there. The two said their goodbyes to the man before slipping out of the office and out of the station.
"Home... now... please," Kurt murmured out, trembling a bit as Burt nodded, leading him to the car and helping Kurt slip in before he got in himself. Before long the two of them were heading off back home. Kurt laid his head against the window as they drove, being careful of his injured shoulder as he drifted off to sleep, exhausted.
