Dear Journal,
Rachel and I met with Ms. Pillsbury today to discuss colleges.
We both had our hearts set on Juilliard, but as top notch as their vocal department is, apparently they do not, in fact, have a musical theatre department. The closest they get to dramatic arts is the opera, which, truth be told, is a little bit too dramatic, even for us (though I definitely would have been the best in class because of my range).
Dad has always said that he does not care where I study, so long as I get the best possible education I can get in my chosen field. Ms. Pillsbury mentioned NYADA, and the school sounds amazing. It’s right in the heart of New York and it offers everything we’ve been looking for. I’ve got a few ideas for audition songs and Rachel definitely has her opinions, but I want to talk them through with Blaine first.
I do wonder though at the timing of the meeting. The final semester of our senior year is almost here and this was the first time we’ve ever had a college counselling session, even though applications are due in a few months. Why did nobody tell us sooner that Juilliard was not a realistic option? I felt so foolish when Ms Pillsbury mentioned that and, while I know I could have done more research myself, isn’t it the school’s responsibility to make sure we’re prepared for college?
I mean, I still have my safety schools, but honestly, I really don’t want to have to go to OSU. I think I would sooner take a gap year than be stuck in Ohio for another four years, especially considering there is no way Blaine won’t make it into any of his chosen schools next year.
I suppose only time will tell what’ll happen. At least I’ve got a wonderfully talented boyfriend to practise my audition songs with.
