At the end of the next week, Archer and Hunter stretched the limits of the minimal experience they both had on the stage. Because Archer had practically grown up with the musical repeating itself on his TV, he spent most of his time practicing Hunters lines with him. He read them off to him, and then had Hunter repeat them back to him in the believable tones that Tony would have used to say each one. Archer, who knew he couldnt encourage any bad behavior since their time to figure out their roles was so short, tried to suck in his lips to avoid laughing whenever Hunter puffed out his chest during a scene that was tense and dark, or when Hunter cupped his face in his hands, kissing banal love words into Archers smiling mouth. Archer knew that anyone else would have swooned to hear those words slide from Hunters talented lips, but he himself had nearly choked on his saliva with how hard he was snickering at the determined way Hunter pressed the words into his flushing skin. There was nothing romantic about his fiancé, and to see him knocked down a few pegs to nothing more than a blubbering, love sickened man humored Archer.
By the final scene of the play, the star-crossed lovers had the audience holding their breaths, faces white as they wondered when the fatal blow would come. Although neither he nor his fiancé were taking this very seriously, they could still give a convincing act. Standing idly off to the side of the stage, Archer stared out into the audience, eyes huge as he displayed the tension that had Maria coiled like a spring. "Tony?" He called, picking out his family in the audience. They were near the front of the rows of seats, his pére squeezing his daddys hand as he gaped, slack jawed at his son. Beside of them sat his Uncle Keegan, and then his grandparents, and even farther down were his uncles. Pretending to be surprised when he heard a scuffle from outside of the audiences line-of-sight, Archer whirled around and watched his fiancé grapple with another junior, who was bulky and shaved, as Chino was. "Oh, no! Tony!" He clapped a hand to his mouth as the junior pulled a toy gun from inside of his jacket and thumbed at the trigger, making it pop.
Hunter instantly stumbled backwards, grabbing at the clean spot where the bullet had apparently ripped him open. He made a gurgling sound, and Archer had to turn his head to the side to hide his smirk from the audience. The boy playing Chino retreated from the stage, which cued Archer to dart over to his fiancé, who was slowly collapsing to his knees. "Tony!" Archer cried, dropping beside of his fiancé and winding one arm around his neck, while his other lowered to his stomach and covered his wound. "Im here now, Tony."
Hunter plunked unceremoniously onto the stage, the anticlimactic finish to him making Archer snicker through quivering lips. Feeling one of Hunters arms slide slowly around his meekly clad body, as if he was too weak to move in a rapid motion, Archer leaned down when Hunter mouthed something. His hair spilled over Hunters face and neck, concealing him from the audience. "Whats my next line?" He said into Archers ear, to which Archer helplessly guffawed.
"You dont have any more. Youre dead." Archer reminded him, and Hunter nodded as if it all made sense now.
Archer started to ease back up so he could look at the gangs, who slowly came together to see what they had done, but a yank from Hunter made him bend down once more, eyes wide with alarm. "Stop moving around. The audience will see you."
Hunter motioned with his hand, "There are people in front of us. I wanted to tell you something."
"Youre going to ruin your acting career."
Scrunching up his face, Hunter grazed his fingers over Archers back. He felt the line of Archers spine, which became harder to make out as he dragged them closer to his plump bottom. "Youre so sexy in this dress. I can feel the shape of your body."
Snorting, Archer plucked at the front of his pale pink dress, which he only tolerated wearing because his pére had come to him with his big eyes and his puckered lip. Since the dress had been fitted for a petite woman, and then altered for his pére, who had only needed to bring the bodice up so it didnt sag, the dress had made a splitting sound as his pére slid it over his plump stomach. Archer had been so embarrassed that hed tried to push it off of himself, only to hold still when his pére had set his hands on his shoulders, reassuring him that Archer was just built with the wide form of his daddy. Archer had nodded quickly, even though he internally denied it, reminding himself vehemently that he was pudgy.
"Dont get used to this." Archer warned, "This is coming off as soon as we get off this stage. I have a hoodie waiting for me. I feel so awkward in this dress. My pére is beautiful... he has long, slender legs, and hes curvy in all the right places. His skin is peachy and warm. I feel even chubbier in this. My legs are so... so fat and short. Im covered in freckles! Im as pale as a ghost. I feel at my best when everything is covered up, and Im sure that everyone else does, too. I must have been the most disagreeable Maria-"
"Stop." Hunter said flatly, his hands lowering to Archers fleshy thighs. "I hate it when you ramble about yourself. The only one who thinks so lowly of you is you. You have two adoring parents who think the world of you, and a doting fiancé who spends most of his day wanting to kiss you."
Even as Hunter stroked his thumb over Archers thin, bottom lip, Archer felt a zing of insecurity that he would never be able to be the other half of a handsome couple, as his parents were. Others looked upon them with envy and admiration, noticing how gorgeous they looked when they were side by side, two elegant people who radiated confidence. Archer feared that, next to his tall husband, whose smile settled easily on the eyes, he would look like a tattered mouse. "You havent even seen me, Hunter... not really."
"I think Ive seen more of you than a man with his eyes." Hunter disputed, fingers sweeping over the backs of Archers legs and hooking around his knees.
"But if you saw me that way... with your eyes, I mean-"
"I would still love you." A soft smile flipped the corners of Hunters lips up, "Even if you had a mole the size of my thumb on your cheek, or if one of your teeth was missing, or if you were balding and had a large nose. All I have to memorize you with is my touch, my love. And, the more flaws... or differences... you have from the next guy, the easier it is for me to determine which one is you, if I reach out to touch you. Everybody has insecurities, sweetheart... even your pére, no matter how put together he seems. I just dont mind any one of yours."
Archers round eyes searched Hunters relaxed face, "Are you sure? Not e-even my shortness... or my chubbiness?"
The smile grew until parentheses creased the corners of his long lips, "As long as you dont mind me towering over you... or my sharp elbows. I like how little you are, Archer. Its easier for me to scoop you into my arms. And when you lie down on my chest and snuggle your curly head under my chin. Youre not chubby, either. Youre just soft, like a kitten. It feels much nicer when I pet my hands down your back."
Archer blushingly smiled, his nerves satiated enough that he let himself lay flatly beside of Hunter, who hed almost forgotten was supposed to be dead, as the Jets and Sharks muttered their lines above them. Curling an arm around Hunters center, Archer wriggled deeper into his limp body. "You are rather tall." He said into Hunters throat, making him chuckle at the vibrations of his lips. "But I suppose Ill tolerate it, for the sake of starting a marriage off on the right foot."
"How considerate of you." Hunter muttered dryly, and Archer giggled as he pressed a firm kiss to Hunters mouth. "Your kindness never fails to astound me, my greatest treasure."
Later that evening, Hunter sat beside of his freshly perfumed fiancé, who had groaned about how lathered in sweat his skin had become under the hot lights. He lounged in the booth of an Italian restaurant he had only been in once before. When hed earned enough money, hed taken Beth out on a quiet date, where his ears wouldnt pound from the screeching music, and he wouldnt have to leave early because she wanted to suck his tongue in the back of a car. The date had ended before their meals had even come out, anyway, because Beth had splashed water in his face and thrown a fit about how he couldnt be bothered enough with her needs. He translated that to mean that she had wanted to thrash around in a club before he fucked her on top of a filthy, leather seat.
Reclining in the plump booth, Hunter draped his arm loosely over Archers shoulders, rubbing at his nape as he listened to him swallow gulps of water. Archer remained quiet as his family, who had treated them to a big meal, gossiped about what an amazing job they had done in the play. Kurt kept the conversation going, reminding everyone of some of his favorite scenes whenever the talking died down as they sipped their drinks and chewed on breadsticks. At the booth beside of theirs, Dillon loudly guffawed with a group of friends that he had managed to compile, a cluster of young boys who were just as rowdy as he was. As Hunter listened to them cackle, he realized that he wouldnt have fit into their exclusive club, and would have been abandoned to nobody, had Archer, who was more similar to him than anyone he had ever known, not come along.
At the sound of Archers grandmas voice, Hunter raised his head from his drink, which hed brought up to his lips. "Do you two have a date planned for the wedding? Id like to be able to meet my great-grandchildren while I can still remember their names."
Hunter didnt know when the wedding had been brought up, but it dragged a smile onto his lips as he replied to Carole, "Archer and I havent discussed many details about the wedding yet, Mrs. Hummel. It will at least be another year, so that I can be graduated. And... we havent talked about having children yet."
"You should get started now." Carole advised, "Couples can be flexible about everything except having children. And, of course, youll need to decide whether youre going to adopt or have a surrogate-"
Blaine choked on the bite hed taken of his salad, "Carole, please... theyre both sixteen years old. They have time to start having children."
Burt put in, "Well, you certainly didnt wait." It was clear that Burt was ragging on Blaine, because he would have given Archer up for nothing in the world, but Blaine still stammered over his words. Hunter smirked as he realized that his future in-law, who used to intimidate him, still got nervous over his own in-law.
"That was unintentional. Kurt and I werent seeking out options to have a baby." Stretching his arm out, he gently pushed a lock of hair off of Archers forehead. "But Archer couldnt have come to us under better circumstances. We would change nothing about the past sixteen years, sweetheart."
Carole spoke again, her thick voice threaded with unhappiness, "I wonder what things would be like... if we still had Hunter, the poor dear."
As it always had, his name wrought an uncomfortable silence from the group, who each lowered their heads as they thought back to the dead baby. Hunter frowned, feeling Archer shiver beneath his hand as the tragic memories were forced upon him. He felt like he was missing out on something important, and had intruded upon a moment that was to be shared only with those who had known the child. Blaine was the first to move, sliding his hand out from behind his husband, as he leaned over and pressed a tender kiss to his temple. "I have to... Ill be back, sweetheart." He told him. Hunter jerked back when someone tapped his shoulder, "Hunter... can I have a moment with you... outside, please?"
The group stirred back to life when the other Hunter was directly addressed, and Kurt scooted closer to his son as his husband stood. Hunters eyes tried to follow the sounds of his shuffling feet and the crinkling napkin as he draped it over the table. "Yes... of course, Blaine." He removed himself from his fiancé, bending to kiss the top of his head, before he rushed to meet his future in-law at the other side of the table. He followed on Blaines heels, feeling him hold onto the sleeve of his shirt, as he guided him through the front door, with a mutter to the host that they had a brief matter to handle. Hunter wondered what had spurred the need to talk to him, and tried to keep his mind blank, so he didnt worry. When they turned around the side of the restaurant, Hunter leaned heavily against the wall. "Whats going on? Is it something I did?"
"No." Blaine said quickly, "No... um..." Unable to find the right words, he made a hopeless sound, withdrawing his hands from Hunters wrists. "I... I thought, now that youre going to be a part of my family, that I should make you aware of something that happened a long... long time ago, before you or Archer were born. I... I assume that Archers told you very little about me."
Hunter started to nod, and then cocked his head to the side, reconsidering his affirmation. He reprocessed what tidbits Archer had given him about each of his family members, his lips pursing and then opening in a quiet sigh as he realized that even though Blaine seemed to be the rock that supported his entire family, he was the one that Hunter knew the least about. Archer was most like his dad, both of them soft-spoken and lacking the self-assurance to make themselves known to a room full of people. Only around their significant others did they ever open up, becoming easy to tease with, and very relaxed, to the point that both of them spent no extra thought on holding their tongues or making themselves as small as possible. They had a preference for the same kinds of food, and even sat down the same way, with a hard thud. They were curious creatures, but not so much so that they went out to explore themselves, and were unusually clumsy. Because it had taken a long time for Hunter to figure his own mysterious fiancé out, he assumed it would take the same exhausting amount of effort and time to learn about Blaine.
Taking Hunters silence as an answer, Blaine said quietly, "It isnt his fault. He knows very little about me, to my regret. Im going to tell you something that very few people know about me. Kurt was with me through a lot of it. Archer knows nothing, and Im begging you not to tell him. It would hurt him, to know the things that Ive done." At the twisted look that Hunter gave him, Blaine said through a suddenly gruff voice, as if he was fighting back tears. "Hunter... I want you to know that Kurt wasnt my first love. He was the first I fell in love with... but there was another." Hunter listened to the story that Blaine told to him, one that few others had ever heard, with a pair of eyes that became glossy as was told about the man who had almost broken Blaine. This man wasnt given a name, as Blaine wouldnt give him that much acknowledgement, and Hunter didnt care to know.
Blaine quieted several times as he choked on his emotions, and Hunter didnt notice himself shuffling closer to the vulnerable man before his arms were around him. As Blaine finished telling him about the insanity that his first lover had spiraled into after hed left him for another, Hunter tightened his arms around him, feeling Blaine shake violently. "That was the man who took my baby, Hunter. There was nothing left in his head, or in his chest... He was so... so heartless that he killed my other son." Blaine set his head in his hands, sobbing as Hunter held him closer to his chest. "There are very few pains that are worse than what a parent has to endure after hes lost his son, Hunter. If you and Archer ever have children, I dont want you to make the mistakes that I did. Hold them close to you, and dont let go, no matter what. Youll never forgive yourself if you let anything harm them. I never have. Ive... adjusted to him not being here, but hes always the first thing I think of when I wake up, and the last thing before I go to sleep. If I could take his place, just to give him another chance, I would. I was weak the day that he was taken from us... I turned my back for a second. When I woke up, he was already dead. I swore to myself, a long time ago, that if I ever met that man again, I would make him suffer the way that my baby had."
Hunter rubbed his hands over Blaines slumped shoulders, "Would you still do it? Would you hurt him the way he had your child?"
Blaine took a deep breath, his hands raising to Hunters hands and pressing them down, to keep them in place. "Hunter, I dont think I would. Somehow... I know that hes out there, living his life so miserably that itd be a relief to him to die. He probably regrets it. He had someone that could give him as much happiness as he gave me, and he destroyed him. Thatd be something that would make him hate himself." Suddenly, Blaine shifted against him, his hand tugging at the front of his shirt as he pulled out a chain that hed had tucked under the fabric. He pressed the cool metal into Hunters palm. "Ive worn this for a long time. Its a picture of Archer and Hunter, when they were infants. This was around the time when they started smiling."
Hunter listened to the click of the locket, feeling it open inside of his hand. He wished he could see their grinning faces, and abruptly felt a shudder of sadness, and then regret at the selfishness inside of him, as he realized that, were the other Hunter still alive, he would probably be the one marrying Archer. They had been too perfect with each other as children to not grow to love each other in a new and exciting way. Staring blankly at the picture, Hunter wiped a stray tear from his eye. He looked back up at Blaine, "Blaine?" His voice was hoarse from the swelling emotion in his throat. "Can you keep a secret for me?"
Blaine took several seconds to reply, and when he did, his voice was hesitant, "Yeah, I can."
A sad smile twitched at Hunters lips, "Blaine... I havent been able to see my hand in front of my face since I was a baby. I-Im blind... almost completely blind. I can see your silhouette, but not a single curl in your hair, or the shape of your eyes."
Once again, Blaine remained absolutely silent, and both of them inhaled sharply when a hand reached out and brushed over the area under Hunters winged brow. "Nothing." Blaine muttered more to himself than to Hunter, who nodded, anyway. "How have I not seen it before? Thats why you let Archer lead you, and why Archer plates your food at the dinner table. It makes sense now." His voice trembled with unease, "You dont know what my son looks like, do you?"
Hunter shook his head, "Not specific features. I learn through touch, and I can remember some colors. Archers told me that he has blue eyes, and I can vaguely make out what they might look like. Red... yellow... orange... those colors are lost on me."
"Does Archer know?"
"He was the first to find out. Ive told no one else." He shrugged, "It hurts a mans pride to have a disability. Ive always said that I simply look at the world in a different way. I can figure things out... it just takes me longer than others. And a lot of hitting my head."
"Why are you telling me? I spent the first few weeks of your relationship with my son not being able to look at you."
Hunter shrugged again, unable to come up with a better answer. "Kindred spirits, I guess. Were both ruined men, trying to care for the people we love. I want to tell Kurt some day... and the rest of your family, but not right now. It would bother them too much, and become the focus of their attention. Im still me, blind or not."
Hunter snapped his eyes shut when a pair of muscular arms wound around the center of him. Although he stood a head taller than Blaine, he lowered his and tucked it into the crook of his scratchy neck. Just like the last time Blaine had held Hunter, he was clean-shaven, the collar of his shirt folded down and buttoned up to his collarbone. Curls of chest hair crept out of the opening at the top of his shirt, making Blaine feel much more masculine. He smelled the starch in his clothing, and the heady cologne that was lightly applied to his ears. "My dads never held me." Hunter whispered into Blaines chest, his arms slinging around the broad, upper half of his body. "You smell how Ive always thought a dad should smell."
"Shh..." For some reason, Hunters heart quivered as Blaine dragged a heavy hand through his hair. A childs screechy laughter rushed into his ears as a chuckling man hauled him off of his running feet and swung him onto his shoulders. "Daddy! Daddy!" The child screamed, sticky fingers knotting in the mans wild curls. "Put me in a tree, Daddy! Up, up! High!" Hunter returned to the present when Blaine abruptly tightened his arms until there was no space left between them. "Its okay now, Hunter. Ive got you."
Hunter smiled peacefully, head buried at an awkward angle in Blaines shoulder. He wasnt sure what he had with Blaine anymore, if they could now talk as easily as he did with Kurt, but, whatever this was, Hunter would take it. Nuzzling into Blaines throat as he swallowed the lump of tears, Hunter whispered, "I think you should tell Archer. It would make him understand, Blaine. Archer doesnt judge anyone. He got that from Kurt."
"What if he hates me for what Ive done? Its always just been Kurt and me. If he knew that there was someone else-"
"He would still love you." Hunter said convincingly, "Because hes your son."
On a sunny weekend-one of the sparingly few left before graduation-the Hummel-Anderson family took to the road and drove for an hour to Westerville, where Blaine had been asked to seek out struggling musicians who might be able to pack mounds of money into the wallets of those involved in the recording studio. Because Blaine was wealthy enough to purchase not one, but two, homes, and then tack on a few acres of land, as well as a lake, where Keegan and Kurt had grown up, and had buried Everett, Hunter assumed that whatever the Warblers did, they did very well. Out of his own curiosity, Hunter had subtly brought up the topic to Blaine one evening, when hed found the man reclined on a couch with his sleeping husband draped over his lap. Blaine had instantly understood what he was garbling about, and hed patted Hunters hand, "Dont worry. Im not offended. Yes... while my job has never left my family destitute, its never been about the money to me. I like to give my husband and my child a comfortable place to sleep, and a roof over their heads, but I do what I do because I was once so shy that I couldnt open my mouth and sing. I wasnt physically able. And, sometimes, cases like me will come into the studio, and theres nothing more rewarding to me than seeing them finally become successful, after some intensive work."
After escorting his husband through the door to the music store, Blaine had handed Archer a pile of cash to do with as he pleased, kissed his cheek, and warned him to stay in the area, and to not leave Hunters side. Grasping Hunters hand, Archer tromped down the sidewalk, springy curls flying behind him. They hadnt eaten breakfast because they stretched awake so late, tangled around each other and drool smeared onto each others faces. Now that Hunters dad had started to show some signs of responsiveness, and had gotten up several times to serve himself food, Hunter left his house more often, but not for as long of breaks as when he stayed away during Christmas. "Are you hungry?" Archer chirped, coming alive with the new growth as the snow receded and revealed yellow blades of grass. There seemed to be something livelier about Archer, who had two very important events to look forward to.
"Does my response matter?" Hunter puffed, racing to keep up with his bouncy fiancé.
Archer skidded to a stop in front of a building that smelled like pastries and incense. "Youll be a smart husband one day." He laughed manically, letting Hunter push him aside so he could open the door for him. "What a gentleman-" Archer gasped when Hunter suddenly lifted his leg and kicked him across his butt.
The two of them wandered into the room at a leisurely pace. Archer tucked his hand into Hunters elbow, leading him over to the counter. He ordered a cinnamon dolce latte for himself, along with a pesto Panini, and a peppermint mocha with a black bean salad for Hunter. After several more trips to cafés, Hunter had started to figure out what made him salivate. A few minutes later, a tray clattered into Archers hands, and Hunter pried it away from him, carrying it back to a high-top table by the window.
For the first few minutes, they ate their meals in silence, until Archer swiped a napkin from the center of the table and murmured, "You know, Ive been looking at wedding invitations that I could make at home. Some of the designs are very crafty. I really liked this one that was made with blue paper, and bits of ribbon and glitter. It sounds childish, but the picture made it look very pretty."
Hunter set his drink down with a clink, "You know that Im okay with anything, babe. But keep in mind that we do have at least another year until the wedding. You could find something you like better."
Archer sighed, "I know that. I just... like having something to be excited about. We should plan a date, anyway. That will give me a good indication of when I need to start preparing things for the wedding."
"Were two kids without plans for the future." Hunter said flatly, and poked a leaf of lettuce with his fork. "Its hard to determine when itd be okay for us to marry if we dont even have jobs. I havent even gotten my dad sorted out yet."
"This all came so easily for my parents." Archer whispered, sinking into his chair as he spun his mug around by the handle. Liquid sloshed up the inside of it. "They knew exactly what they wanted to do, and how to go about it."
"I wouldnt be so sure." Even though he could tell that hed befuddled Archer with that vague remark, Archer chose to ignore it, passing it off as common knowledge that, sure, maybe his parents didnt know everything. Leaning back, Hunter stretched his hand out and touched Archers knuckles, "Dont be so disappointed, sweetheart. I cant give you exact details, but Ill let you amuse yourself for days with any decorations you want to look at, or cakes you want to taste." He pointed with his finger, "Theres something for you to do. Plan a day when we can... you know, do that cake tasting thing. Bring Kurt and Blaine with us. I know that it would mean the world to them, and especially Kurt, if you included them in planning our wedding. Thatll give Kurt something to think about, when he has to start baking our cake, if he knows which kind we like."
"Alright." Archer flipped his hand over, his fingers sliding through Hunters. "I suppose I can do that."
"Theres a good boy."
Archers voice suddenly became stern, "But, while youre at school next year, and Im out planning our wedding, youd better not be flirting with any cute boys."
"Wouldnt think of it." Hunter said honestly, even though his voice was threaded with humor. "Not when I have this adorably feisty boy waiting for me at home." Archer didnt relent, and that was when Hunter realized that he wasnt altogether kidding. "Oh, honey... you have to know that Ill be loyal to you. You know that I cant see what others look like, and will never get close enough to them to find out the way I did with you. Besides, you know that I love you more than anything else in the world, and loving you that way means that there will never be another person who can be any kind of a threat to you. Youre beautiful and charming and intelligent, and you put up with me more than you should. No ones ever going to feel the way that you do about me. They usually take one look at me and jolt back because they think Im gross or dangerous. If anyone should feel insecure that hes going to be left behind for someone better, its me. You remind me of a sapphire, Archer. Youre more subtle than a diamond, but much more beautiful and colorful... or so Ive heard."
Archer gave an uncertain laugh, "A sapphire? Oh, no... I couldnt be a jewel. But if you were to be like one, Hunter, you would be a ruby. Youre very bold and bright. Youre the color that fire is."
A corner of Hunters mouth snaked upward, "A ruby, huh?" He squeezed Archers fingers. "Believe me when I say that I will be a devoted husband, and will never bore of you. Youre a very intriguing person, Archer. You turned my head the first time we met." He cocked his head to the side, his fingers stroking the soft flesh of Archers palm, "Archer, will you go to prom with me? I wont back out this time."
To Hunters surprise, a high pitched laugh ruptured out of Archer. The sound, while melodic and easy on the ears, made Hunters brows shoot up. "What did I say?"
Archer coughed around his giggles, quieting them, "It isnt you, my dear. I assumed that we would go to prom together since we were a couple now. It would look rather odd if I spent the night in another mans arms, wouldnt it?"
Hunters brows lowered as he rumbled with jealousy at the thought of his fiancé dancing the night away with another man. Before Hunter could spit out vicious words that made clear how much he detested that situation, Archer leaned across the table and nibbled at his bottom lip, "Yes, Ill go with you, my love. Only because youre my fiancé."
Hunter chuckled, "It isnt that you want my arms around you for hours and hours?"
"Ive gotten used to that. It happens every night." They both chuckled at that, dropping back into their own seats when Archer became aware of new presences approaching their table. "Hi, Daddy and Pére." Archer greeted them, accepting Blaines kiss to his cheek.
"We thought wed find you two in here." Kurt said happily, "May we sit with you? Im so hungry!"
Hunter gestured to the empty seat beside of him, pulling it out for Kurt. Kurt draped himself neatly in the chair, smoothing the skirts of his day dress. Blaine bent over his preening husband and kissed his nose, "Honey, Ill go up and order for us."
Kurt nodded, still rearranging himself when Archer spoke up, "Did you get what you wanted at the music store?"
Kurt stopped adjusting his bodice, "Yes, and it was all very dull. I wonder sometimes why I dont accompany your dad on his work trips. I had to stand very quietly and listen to your dad make several phone calls to the Warblers."
Hunter was briefly entertained by how appalled Kurt was by the notion of spending any amount of time in silence. "Im sorry, Pére. You could have come straight here with Hunter and me."
"Oh, no, its alright. I didnt mind spending time with your dad. I liked looking around, anyway. They had some very old records. It was so quaint." Archer giggled at his varying opinions, and Hunter realized that it must have been very hard for Kurt to have only one line of thought, when he thought there were so many interesting things to be at the center of attention in his mind. Archer was the same way, never holding onto one topic of conversation for more than a few minutes.
Archers soft voice filled the silence once more, "Pére, Hunters asked me to go with him to prom. Did you keep the outfit I was going to wear to homecoming?"
"Its in my closet." Kurt said astonishingly matter-of-factly, before his voice jumped up a few octaves, as Hunter had expected it to. "Oh, Archer, youre going to be so breathtaking. What a handsome couple the two of you will be. Ill have to take plenty of pictures." Archer must have made a face, because Kurt scoffed, "You will want to look back at them one day, perhaps when youre as old as me."
"Pére, youre thirty five years old. Youre not twenty years older than I am."
"I have to spend extra time in the bathroom to ready myself. Something must be done about these wrinkles."
"You dont have any wrinkles." Archer said flatly, "Youre just being dramatic again. No wonder you did so well on the stage."
Kurt giggled when his husband padded behind him and kissed the top of his head, "You dont have any wrinkles, my love, but Ive been working on putting one right here... in the middle of your forehead. And maybe a few gray hairs right here... and here... and here." Blaine kissed the places he was referring to, delighting his affectionate husband. "How many times do I have to reassure you that youre still as lovely as a flower?"
Kurt puckered his mouth against Blaines, "Ive lost count. I suppose youll have to restart."
Blaine rolled his eyes, scooping up his smiling husband and placing him in his lap when he sat down. "What will I ever do with you?" Folding his small husband into his chest, Blaine smoothed a loving hand over the back of his thin dress. "Its too late for you now, Hunter, but my advice to any sane man would be to not marry into our family. Kurt certainly didnt warn me before I was stuck with him."
Hunter laughed so deeply that his shoulders shook, "Yes, its far too late for me now. Im too in love to back out now." Playfully pinching Archers chin, he winced when Archer lightly bit the tip of his thumb. "If only I was in love with someone nicer."
"You wouldnt change a hair on my head."
A wide smile stretched onto Hunters lips, "Maybe one or two. This one right here..." he yanked on a stray piece of hair, "I especially dont like this one."
Archer swatted him away, "Well, maybe I want to change every hair on your head, you stubborn, hypocritical-"
Kurt whispered in his husbands ear, "You would think they dont want to marry each other."
"They wouldnt have anyone else." Blaine knowingly informed him, "And Im sure that no one else would have them."
