Burt wouldn’t describe himself as a selfish man, but in this instance he had to be. Kurt was everything to him and he would do anything to keep him safe,
“Dad?” came a soft reply.
“Oh Kurt hey. Have you settled in okay?”
“Yeah it’s been good I’m going for coffee with a guy called Blaine soon.”
“Blaine? Who is he?”
“just someone the school assigned to me to show me around. He is an okay guy.”
“Oh?” Burt responded. “Is he like you, you know gay?”
“I don’t know. I haven’t ever been good with that kind of thing.” Kurt sighed. He doubted someone as good looking as Blaine would be gay. Knowing his luck, he was probably a homophobe. Then again wouldn’t he have guessed by now that Kurt was gay? Surely. I mean if the fashion and the clothes didn’t give it away enough sure his voice and sarcastic remarks should?
“Just be careful kurt. Don’t throw yourself around. You matter.”
“Dad can we not.” Kurt interrupted. “it’s only coffee. Don’t worry, im not ready for that kinda thing at the moment and I doubt blaine is gay. So just chill. Save it for when I actually have a boyfriend.” Kurt heard a knock at the door.
“What’s that?” Burt questioned?
“Oh its blaine looks like he is here. Il talk to you later dad.”
“okay remember be careful. I love you son.”
“you to dad.” Kurt ended the call and walked towards the door styling his hair making sure it is perfect on the way there.
“Hey!” Blaine said smiling when kurt opened the door.
“hi.” Kurt replied timidly. Noticing the tone in kurts voice blaine tried to cheer him up,
“so you ready for some coffee?” Kurt gave blaine a bitch please look and said,
“I’m always ready for coffee. I live off the stuff.” The boys started walking to the parking lot.
“come on my car is over here. I’m guessing yours is not here yet?”
“no I’m going home this Friday and driving it back up.”
“Oh so are you staying home this Friday?”
“depends if me and my dad argue when I get back.” Kurt said with a simple shrug. The drive to the lima bean is short and silent. But a comfortable silence. As soon as kurt walked into the lima bean he was in love. It was a classic coffee shop and had the most amazing aroma of coffee all around. The used look of the place didn’t make it look tatty, but loved and popular.
“wow” was all kurt could say.
“yeah it feels like home huh. “Blaine replied with a smile on his face.
“Honestly, sometimes I forget how home feels like.” Kurt sighed.
“what do you mean?” when blaine saw kurt tense he hurriedly added on “it’s okay you don’t have to tell me I’m just… curious.” Both boys got there coffee’s and sat down.
“So what school did you previously go to?” Blaine asked kurt. He figured he might as well start a conversation.
“McKinley back in lima.”
“wow. That’s like 2 hours away. So you mentioned you were in their glee club. I think we competed against them. New direners?”
“New directions” kurt laughed.
“ah yes I think we competed against them. They beat us. They were really good.”
“yeah they were. It was the regionals I missed.”
“why was that?” blaine questioned. “sorry if I’m coming off nosy I’m just trying to get to know the mystery that is kurt Hummel.” Blaine laughed noticing the blush that appeared on kurt face.
“I was in hospital at the time.” Kurt said with a shrug of his shoulders. Blaine noticed that he does this when he seems to be uncomfortable.
“that must have sucked. I would have loved to have seen you there.” Kurt snorted into his coffee. How he made that look dignified shocked blaine.
“you wouldn’t have recognised me. I was alive but not living. I guess its only recently that I have really started to try and be my old self again.” Blaine could tell by the distant look in the younger boys eyes that there was another story behind this.
“is that why you were in hospital?” blaine asked. “did something happen to make you like that?” he remembered how close he felt like that back in his old school. Shoved in closets being locked in for hours on end. Constant slurs. It was hell.
“something like that. Being the only out kid at school sure had its perks. Not.”
“that’s horrible. Just because your gay does not mean people have the right to treat you like that!”
“yes well my dad said that the reason he took me out of school and enrolled me here was to keep me safe. My mom died when I was 7 so he very protective over me. I think that fact that I was in a coma kind of scared him to much. Not that I blame him really.” Blaine could see a tear fall down kurts face. He reached over and wiped it away with him thumb. “I didn’t even get to say goodbye to my friends.” Blaine pulled kurt into a hug. He felt the boy stiffen.
“hey its okay.” Blaine said trying to console kurt.
“I wouldn’t hug me if I were you. I don’t want to cause you any trouble. You know being out in public seen hugging the towns only open gay.”
“it doesn’t matter. They can call me gay. They are not lying.”
“wait so your…?” kurt asked questionably.
“gay? Yeah I have been out since I was 14. My mother and father didn’t take it to well. Kinda treat me like shit for it. My brother cooper doesn’t mind though. Says he will love me no matter what. My dad tried building a car with me before. One of his many attempts at turning me straight.” Blaine sighed this time. Sitting back down. He took a breath, “ I was bullied to. At my old school. I don’t know what it was like for you, but it was terrible for me. Just the usual slurs and comments written on my locked and being locked in closets. You would think they would get more creative huh.”
“what happened? What made you transfer. Sorry its my turn to be nosy.” Kurt asked and Blaine just smiled. Noticing the time, blaine said
“we have to get back to Dalton. How about I tell you when we get back. Then you can tell me all about McKinley. “ kurt nodded and smiled. Blaine was grateful for this. He didn’t want to be seen crying in public and this story took a lot of effort to get over. Its painful. Blaine knew kurt would understand. Courage. That little word blaine whispered to himself most days.
Comments
This story just keeps getting better. I am completely hooked. I love how you write Kurt and Blaine and how you are building the foundation of their friendship. I look forward to learning more about Kurt and Blaine's pasts. This is one of the stories that I can't wait to be updated. It truly is awesome.
THANK YOU! :) im trying to update at least once a day so chapter four should be up by tomorrow. its actually made me cry writing it so hopefully it will be good. :) hope you llike it hahahahah
The plot is really interesting, but you need a Beta. It's difficult to concentrate on the context, when you're constantly distracted by small grammar errors and the format. It makes the story difficult to read and enjoy.
Thank you for the feedback, honestly i agree with you ar first as the first i think four chapters where something which i had just thought up in my head it is not until after that, that i start to develop myself but thank you for picking up on that. What is a Beta? im new to the whole fanfiction writing thing so i dont really have a clue.
A Beta-reader is someone who reads your stories, gives you feedback and points out whether you have made a countinuity error or if something else should be changed about you stories, and if necessary edits them (corrects grammatical errors, typos and other thing that need fixing) before you publish them. You can choose yourself a Beta from the Beta readers list if you open up the Authors page and choose Beta from the drop-down.
