"Hey boo." , a soft voice he recognized immediatly reached his ears, but he didn't bother to look at Mercedes.
Why is she doing this?
But Kurt couldn't deny that he was kind of glad it was Mercedes and no one else. Now that she knew what was up with him she wouldn't try to interact with him, would she?
Kurt pulled out his notebook and began to draw patterns on the paper, when another pair of feet moved closer to the corner.
"Hey, I'm sorry, but today this place is mine. ", Mercedes sounded happy and nice, just claiming the place like it was the most natural thing in the world.
If Kurt would actually watch what was happening he'd see a slighty disappointed looking Blaine shuffling on his feet. He looked around and decided to sit down next to Mercedes anyway.
" No problem, I'll just, umm, sit here if you don't mind. I don't like the front row that much. Name's Blaine, by the way." he hold his hand out for Mercedes to take, flashing her a polite smile.
The lesson began quickly after that and Kurt had already a full new outfit on his notebook, an outfit he'd dream to wear at his prom-which he would never attend anyway.
A little piece of paper was shoved in his vision. Kurt eyed it suspiciously but he figured it must be from Mercedes. He took it and opened it, reading the girl's untidy handwriting.
He thought about that for a moment. He never showed any of his designs to other people - too afraid of judgement. It was his little private thing to do. But since yesterday evening there wasn't much privacy left, so he just scribbled a "sure" underneath the message and shoved it back, together with his notebook.
A few minutes passed and Kurt's nervosity grew, until he felt the notebook against his arm as Mercedes gave it back to him. On top was a new note saying:
Ashy smile appeared on his face, never had anyone told him how great he was at drawing. Sure, it might just be Mercedes being nice without any true meaning, but still. This time he doesn't thought that long about what he would answer.
a favor? What does she wants from me?
waitwhat?
The first time in a long time Kurt lifted his eyes. He had to see it, to see if the girl was actually serious or if she was just mocking him. He tried to look past her happy eyes and nice smile, but truth be told, he couldn't find anything. As quick as his head had snapped up he lowered it again, nodding slowly.
When the bell rang he was actually surprised. Normally he'd have his things packed by now, ready to be out of the door in seconds, but not this time. He actually hadn't noticed how the time went by. Kurt expected Mercedes to leave just like everybody else but she stayed and waited for him to gather his belongings and walked out with him. She didn't say a word, she just walked beside him until they reached his locker. The diva slipped him another note and went just like that. Confused Kurt began to open the little piece of paper, reading her now familiar writing.
What does she see in me?
Kurt knew if he wanted to reach his goal he needed to get his anxiety in control, that's why he decided to actually go outside and look for Mercedes. She stood near the parking lot, waving at him to get his attention. Kurt slowly walked towards her still hesitant - but determined.
Come on, Kurt you can do this. It's just one person. And she already knows you're uncomfortable.
His back was stiff and his shoulders began to hurt from being so tense. Nothing unusual, though. His classmate just smiled at him and motioned him to follow her. They went to her car, climbing on the back seat. Mercedes didn't say a word, just silently unpacked the food she had mentioned in her note. She hold up two containers with salad and one with tatertots, making Kurt choose. He found himself smiling to her once again before taking one of the two salads. Mercedes handed him a fork and they began to eat in silence. Kurt even tried a tatertot and he had to admit he liked it . By the time lunch break was over they still hadn't said a word and Kurt began to feel somewhat safe. He wasn't totally comfortable but he didn't feel the usual urge to run either. They walked back inside the school together, stopping by their lockers then heading to their last period. Once again Mercedes sat next to him and it didn't take long for her to slip him a note.
