Oh, this is quite late. I really am sorry about that.Things were crazy with assignments for a while and transferring universities and whatnot, but everything is calm and good now because I have a three week holiday- yay!Anyway, hope you enjoy this chapter.
I don't own Glee!
Kurt sat in the back row of the choir room, bored. Mr. Schuester was late again...probably dealing with yet another problem with his to-be wife, Miss Pilsbury. Santana was sitting with Brittany, her gaze focused adoringly on the blonde bombshell, listening intently to whatever she was talking about- so he didn't have anyone to really talk to.
Everyone seemed to be paired up lately...Finn and Rachel, Mike and Tina...even Sugar and Rory had something going on. Not to mention Quinn and that new kid..Jeff...Joe?
All the same, Kurt felt a sudden pang of loneliness as he bitterly watched all the couples in the room.
"I'm going to be single forever..." he thought sadly.
His thoughts were interrupted as the door finally swung open and Mr. Schuester walked in. Kurt rolled his eyes, glad to be able to begin.
"Hey guys! Now, I know I said we'd be focusing on Barry White," he began, before being cut off by the whole club groaning. "Buttt, we're going to have to leave that until next week, because we've got a special guest joining us today!"
While Mr. Schuester expected excited whispers among the students, he received only silence. It wasn't uncommon for the teacher to talk up a 'special guest' with them turning out to only be Miss Pilsbury, or Coach Bieste…or on one occasion, the janitor.
The door swung open again, and Kurt's breath hitched as he heard a familiar laugh sound through.
"Hey guys!" Mr. Anderson entered the room, smooth as ever with his guitar in his hand, and stood next to Mr. Schuester. "Thanks for letting me join in with you all today."
The students all grinned. Mr. Anderson was cool. This was a guest they could tolerate.
"That's great and all, but…why are you here?" Quinn asked. "And can you even sing?"
"Well, Quinn, some students feel that my taste in music is a little old fashioned." Mr. Schuester said, his eyes darting to Santana. "And Mr. Anderson is here to shake things up a bit!"
Whilst the other students may have not noticed a thing, Kurt did not miss Schuester's glance towards Santana. He looked at her, noticing the smug look plastered upon her face.
Yep, this was definitely her doing.
His attention was once again directed to Mr. Schuester, as the over-enthusiastic teacher clapped his hands together and continued. "And as for singing…well, let's have Mr. Anderson show us what he can do!"
Mr. Anderson grinned, counting off a few guitar strums before singing,
Robert's got a quick hand,
He'll look around the room,
He won't tell you his plan,
He's got a rolled cigarette,
Hanging out his mouth,
He's a cowboy kid,
Kurt was floored. Mr. Anderson's smooth, low voice was sending chills down his spine. He recognised the song, Pumped Up Kicks- it had been popular for quite some time, and was definitely a good way to warm up to the students and get them to join in.
And that they did. One by one, each of the Glee club members stood up from their seats and joined the teacher, singing and dancing along. Only Kurt remained seated, staring at Mr. Anderson's toned arm strumming the guitar, his heart doing all forms of acrobatics, physically being incapable of looking away.
Suddenly, he caught Mr. Anderson's eye and Kurt had to bite his lip to stop himself from smiling more than he already was- he couldn't imagine how goofy he must've looked right now. And then Mr. Anderson winked, winked, right at him, and Kurt had to stop the squeal that was threatening to escape his throat.
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks,
You'd better run, better run, outrun my gun,
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks,
You'd better run, better run, faster than my bullet!
As the last chorus of the song was sang, Mr. Anderson plucked the last note on the guitar, and Kurt felt his heart rapidly beating, overwhelmed by how good a singer his teacher had turned out to be. The students erupted into a cheer, their adrenaline pumping after such a fun performance. Their approval of Mr. Anderson was definitely evident- Glee Club hadn't been this enjoyable in a long time.
"So, Quinn...what'd you think?" Mr. Anderson asked. "Am I good enough to help you guys take on Nationals?"
Quinn smiled widely, and nodded. "Definitely, Mr. Anderson."
Mr. Schuester clapped his hands together as he went to stand next to Mr. Anderson. "That settles it then- everybody welcome your new co-director of Glee club...Mr. Anderson!"
The rest of Glee Club was spent with Rachel arguing heatedly with Mercedes about who deserved the solo for Sectionals more.
Eventually, the entire club became involved, and at some point, Santana had to be held back from going 'all Lima Heights!' on Rachel.
Kurt watched his fellow glee club members, wondering whether he should be participating, because he most definitely deserved a solo for Sectionals.
"This seat taken?"
Kurt looked up to see Mr. Anderson smiling and ushering to the seat next his him.
"Be my guest." Kurt replied, his heartbeat rapidly increasing. Honestly, at this rate, he'd have a heart attack by the end of the lesson.
"So…aren't you going to join in on their little catfight?" Mr. Anderson said, taking the seat besides Kurt and gesturing towards the rest of the Glee Club, who were still clawing at each other's throats. "I mean…don't you want a solo?"
"Well...yeah. But I'm above them." Kurt sniffed. "And besides…Mr. Schuester will end up giving it to Rachel anyway. She always gets them."
"That doesn't seem very fair." Mr. Anderson said.
"When is life ever fair?" Kurt replied sadly, looking down.
"…Touché."
Mr. Anderson leant forward and rested his hand on his chin.
"So…how well can you sing?" he asked.
"On a scale of one to ten?" Looking back up, Kurt answered, "probably eleven."
The teacher chuckled softly, and then lifted his gaze, looking directly at Kurt. They both sat there, just staring at each other, and Kurt swore to himself he'd never seen eyes as beautiful as Mr. Andersons.
"Your rendition of Pumped Up Kicks was fantastic by the way." he breathed.
"You think?" Mr. Anderson grinned.
"Y-you should come by the Lima Bean sometime" Kurt stuttered, before he could stop himself. Instantly regretting what he'd just suggested, he went on. "I mean…if you want. You don't have to. I work afternoon shifts. S-sorry."
Cheeks tinged pink, Kurt buried his face into his hands, embarrassed. He felt Mr. Anderson place a hand on his shoulder.
"Hey, no! I- I'd like that." Mr. Anderson smiled. "But hopefully no spilt coffee this time, eh?"
Kurt laughed shakily, before leaning back in his seat. Mr. Anderson still hadn't removed his hand from his shoulder, and his thumb was grazing it back and forth, and once again, neither could look away from the other. And then suddenly, Kurt's eyes closed and he was leaning in…
"THAT'S ENOUGH!" Mr. Schuester yelled.
Kurt opened his eyes. Thankfully, Mr. Schuester's attention was directed at Santana, as were the rest of the students'.
Mr. Anderson was staring at him, his eyes wide and mouth parted slightly. Kurt took a moment to process exactly what he'd almost done.
What the actual fuck was he thinking…he'd been two seconds away from kissing his teacher…in a classroom…where other students and another teacher were present.
The students fell silent as Mr. Schuester lectured them on working as a team, but Kurt's mind was working into overdrive as he thought about how stupid he was, and how incredibly lucky it was that Mr. Schue had interrupted when he did.
Because he would've kissed Blaine- Mr. Anderson- and the results would've been disastrous as he probably wouldn't have reciprocated anyway and he was a teacher and all the trouble it would have caused- oh god.
"Kurt…" Mr. Anderson whispered, still staring at him. "Kurt, I-"
Kurt stood up abruptly, knocking over his chair in the process and emitting a loud noise. Mr. Schuester stopped his speech, looking up at him, causing everyone else to do so too.
"Is there a problem Kurt?" Mr. Schuester asked gently.
Kurt bent to pick up his messenger bag that was slumped on the floor, hugging it tightly to his chest.
"I- I need to go." He replied, walking briskly out of the classroom and not looking back, leaving Mr. Schuester and the rest of the Glee club wondering what that was all about.
