Kurt came home to find himself under his father's worried yet disappointed gaze.
"Where were you Kurt? It has been two hours since school ended and you haven't been answering any of my calls?!" Burt said in a rage. Kurt rushed to calm him down to keep him from his weak heart's harm.
"Dad, it's okay. I just tried out for glee club and went for coffee with a friend. I'm alright," Kurt reassured.
"Okay, but would you call me next time? I worry about you. A lot. I can't stand losing you,' his father said with so much emotion in his voice.
"I promise dad. Sorry, it won't happen again," Kurt apologized. He knew that the death of his mom was still fresh to his dad, even though it had been seven years ago. Kurt is the only important person left that is important to Burt.
"It's okay son. So a friend huh? Does the friend have a name?" Burt asked while walking back to the living room to sit on the sofa. Kurt followed him.
"Blaine. He's glee club's leader. He said I was really good," he said with a smile. Kurt honestly swooned at Blaine's praise of his singing abilities. Not that he was ever gonna tell his dad that. Sure his dad loves him, but he's scared that won't last long. He's yet to tell Burt he's gay. He doesn't want Burt's unconditional love to stop with one confession so Kurt would rather keep it a secret for now.
"Blaine," Burt repeated, "Sounds like a good boy," Burt gave Kurt a subtle knowing look. He had known his son was gay since Kurt was 3. But he wants Kurt to gather the courage to tell him on his own rather than reveal that he knows. He feels it's gonna be soon if the way Kurt's pale complexion turned light pink at the mention of his "friend" has anything to say about the matter.
Kurt however was confused at his dad's strange look as his dad was always very open with him and didn't hold back what he had on his mind. He didn't even want to know what his dad had on his mind if he was being honest. So Kurt just took a deep sigh and sat down next on the couch next to his father. He picked up a copy of Vogue and tried to read it. It took a few moments but he was finally able to read a few sentences of an article with out his mind wondering until his dad had spoken again.
"Is this coffee with your friend gonna become a thing I should be expecting now?" Burt asked curiously.
Kurt sat up at that. He's starting to get the feeling that his dad is suspecting of how his feelings towards Blaine truly are. "No. At least I don't think so. Maybe he was just being nice to the new kid," Kurt suggested. Although Kurt hoped his coffee time with Blaine would definitely be frequent and not for the sake of being nice to him.
"Okay then," Burt proclaimed before turning his attention back to the football game on the television.
'Kiddo will smarten up soon enough,' Burt thought as he watched another player from his team score a touchdown.
