Blaine wore his Dalton vest today, the same one he wore in his dream. I knew there was nothing I could do, Blaine was meeting Sebastian today.
I didn’t know why Sebastian was in Westerville much less joining the Dalton Academy Warblers parent comity. Could it have been because Sebastian knew I was here. Sebastian was never one to play with his food. I remember the last time we this close. Well 5 miles is the closest we have been since we met 400 years ago.
In Austria 1913 I lived in a covet of five. I was sleeping with Julian and good friends with his sister Emily. I warned them like I always do and they didn’t care. An egomaniac werewolf controlling 1000 year old vampire Julian said he sounded like fun. Sebastian sent his wolves and it wasn’t fun killing them or watching them kill Martha, Kol and Jonathan. But the worst moment was when Julian found out he was bit. The werewolf’s bite can kill us in 24 hours and it wasn’t until that last hour I realized I loved him.
I heard Sebastian killed Emily himself days after I left Austria. Sebastian hasn’t been a threat since I played smarted and ran faster. I don’t know what I’m doing here I have always ran. Here I am sitting like a duck.
I have no idea what to do. If I leave then I’m forced to hear about Rachel dying from a werewolf bite and Blaine being slaughtered by Sebastian cold unyielding arms.
If I stay, I die and there is no promise Blaine and Rachel will live as well. I never want to die, there is no after life for the living dead. We die and then what? At least humans have the luxury of hoping they get into heaven. They get to hang out in purgatory or burn in hell. They have something to look forward to. There was nothing for us monsters, that was the price we pay for immortality.
There had to be away to get out alive. I just wasn’t thinking. That’s what love does takes the logic out of thinking.
Rachel returned home causing me to jump. She apologized and walked over to sit beside me. “We’re going to get through this.” She said. I was silent for a moment, looking around the apartment.
“You should go.” I said in a low voice.
“What ever you’re thinking there is another option,” she said her voice cracking at the end.
“Rachel, leave while you still can.” I said growing irritated at her defiance.
“I have no where to go Kurt.” She said hanging her head. A tear rolled down her cheek.
“Yes you do, Rachel. You’re still young and you’re beautiful. You can make something of your self.” I said looking at her.
“Kurt you might not have made me but you are the only vampire I respect. I come to you for my problems, I don’t know what to do without you.” She sobbed.
“Yes you do Rachel, you will do amazing things without me holding you back. I’m doing this for you. For you for Blaine, I should have never run this long. I’ve watched to many people die in my place. I refuse to watch you.” I said my eyes welting up.
“No.” She croaked. “There has to be another way,” I shook my head no and she fell into my chest sobbing. I rubbed her arm comfortingly. “There’s always another way.” She repeated over and over. I held her tight.
She was right, I might not have made her but she was mine and I was hers. It has been an unspoken relationship for the better half of 70 years. We’ve laughed, cried, argued, she even attacked me once. All of my friends hate her, claim that I could do so much better. But there is no one better then the Glinda to my Elphaba. She will always see the good in everything, her blind optimism was just like Blaine's. I don’t know how I managed to love both of them so much.
“Remember when we first met,” I started tears streaming down my face silently. “You smiled at me from across the room and approached. You told me you would rock my world and I told you I was gay.”
“‘Even better,’ I replied. You told me I was crazy and we met again three days later with Hugo.” She finished. She sat up and looked at me fresh tears filling our eyes.
“What about Blaine?” She asked.
“When he comes home, take him away from here, go anywhere make sure he is happy and he meets a boy that will treat him right.” She nodded her head yes.
“I love you Kurt.”
“I love you Rachel.” I held her once more reminiscing on all the crazy things we did together. Flashes of sky diving, and gambling mixed with bars and shopping malls. Letters we wrote to each other surfaced along with her teaching me how to use my first phone. Every picture she has ever taken every and boy that broke her heart it was all over.
“I got chills,” she said softly into my shoulder.
“Are they multiplying?” I asked letting out a sob.
She nodded her head, “mmhmm, and I’m losing control.”
“Its that power that you’re supplying,” I said trying to laugh.
“Its electrifying.” She breathed pulling away from me, she kissed my forehead and walked out the door not turning back.
Saying bye to Rachel was harder then I expected so when I called Kellie I was already numb. “Hey Kurt, I was just about to call you. Remember that bull fighter you owe me, well I’m looking at this authentic Matador costume in your size,” she laughed.
“Kellie, Sebastian is here.” I said she gasped. “I’m done running. I just called because I care about you and I wanted to say good bye to you.”
“Wow, I never saw this day coming.” She said.
“Neither did I but I’m out of options.”
“So what do we say at goodbye?”
“I don’t know, thank you maybe.” I said running my hand through my hair.
“You’re welcome, and I’d do all of this again in a heart beat.” She said. “Good bye Kurt.”
“Goodbye Kellie.” I breathed, “oh will you tell Chandler for me?”
“Of course,” she hung up the phone first as I listened to the dial tone I knew it was really over. All that was left was Blaine.
