Kurt and Blaine were in a neuro room waiting for Blaine's doctor to come back to the hospital. Kurt paced anxiously waiting for Rachel to come or text, or save him from the adorable man or boy that watched Kurt's every move.
"So if it’s 2010," Blaine started.
"It's 2011, Blaine, but go ahead," Kurt interrupted.
"Wow, how did Friends end?" Blaine asked. Kurt laughed though Blaine didn’t understand the humor in his question. He hung his head. "It was canceled wasn’t it? Ross and Rachel never got together."
"No it wasn’t canceled, I just never watched it. It stopped after 10 if Rachel would get here already she can tell you all about it." Kurt looked at his phone just as Rachel sent Kurt a text.
"What room are you in; I'm at the front desk."
"I will be right back Blaine like 3 minutes tops." Kurt said Blaine who nodded and pulled string from his jacket.
Kurt shook his head and walked hastily down the hall. Rachel was yelling at a receptionist.
"I wasn't given a name," she said irritable. Kurt looked at the receptionist.
"She's with me." Kurt said.
"Alright Mr. Hummel, Dr. Neutin said she was going to be about 5 minutes," Kurt nodded and grabbed Rachel tugging her along the half lit hospital aisle.
"Good news Blaine gained the first 16 years of memory bad news he thinks it 2001 and he is a sophomore in high school."
"Shut up that must be so hard is he okay?" Rachel asked as they turned the corner.
"He was freaking out at first but he seems okay now." Kurt stopped in front of the door. "I can't do this alone," Kurt took a breath. “He wanted his mom so I thought if you came he could feel better in a woman’s presence.”
"I'm here. It’s going to be okay.“ Rachel gave Kurt a quick squeeze of the hand. “Just relax,” they walked in to the room.
Blaine was looking at a picture he found in his jacket pocket.
"Blaine," Kurt said. "This is my sister in-law Rachel."
Blaine looked up at her and gave her a warm smile. "Hi Rachel." His eyes traveled back down to his picture. Rachel turned to Kurt.
"He is way cuter then you give him credit for." Kurt gave Rachel a small smile and a half hearted shrug.
"What is that?" Kurt asked approaching Blaine.
"I was in Paris 3 years ago." Blaine handed the picture to Kurt.
The picture was taken in front of the Eiffel Tower. Blaine had his arm wrapped around a beautiful lean blonde who couldn't smile brighter if she tried. Kurt turned the photo around and there was a small bit of writing I'm the top corner. "We'll be back. 2007"
"Do you know who she is?" Kurt asked handing the picture to Blaine. He shook his head no and handed it to Rachel who took a seat on the chair beside Blaine’s bed. He did a double take at Rachel, "wow you're pretty. I love your shoes." Blaine exclaimed.
"Thank you Blaine the feeling mutual, well I mean you're handsome also." Rachel gave him back the picture with a smile assuring him she was sure in her compliment. Kurt watched the small interaction between the two.
"No I'm not. I'm pretty sure my beard is made up of needles and itch powder." Blaine scratched his beard and Rachel laughed.
"Blaine, you're doctor is here," Kurt said hearing Dr. Neutin's heels click on the linoleum.
"You're not going to leave me are you?" Blaine panicked.
"No I'm staying," Kurt quickly stepped closer to Blaine. Dr Neutin walked in with a clipboard.
"Hey Blaine." She said warmly taking a seat on a spin stool. "What happened tonight?" She asked Blaine looked up to Kurt.
"I don't know what you mean, I was eating dinner, and I wasn't home. But I don't know I haven’t been home in a while." Blaine said confused. Dr. Neutin raised her delicate eyebrow.
"Blaine what year is it?" She asked.
"2010, no 2011." He said. "But that's what Kurt told me." Blaine bit his lip his eyes shifting all around the room.
"What year do you think it is?"
"2001."
"What's today’s date?"
"March 15, 2001." Blaine said. "But I'm wrong, cause next week is thanksgiving. Why am I wrong?" Blaine looked to Kurt for the answer.
"This is peculiar." Dr. Neutin said scribbling on her notes. "Blaine tell me your parent’s name."
"Kella Anderson and Michael Anderson. I have a older brother named Cooper Anderson." Kurt made a noise but Blaine ignored him. "I live in Ann Arbor, Michigan." Blaine started sneezing three burst that made Kurt smile.
"Bless you," Dr. Neutin said, "Kurt can I talk to you in the hall."
Kurt nodded and followed the doctor outside. Blaine turned to Rachel. "How long have you known Kurt?" He asked just as Kurt shut the door.
"What happened tonight, I've never seen someone gain their memory well a large chunk this fast and not remember what they already knew." Dr. Neutin told Kurt.
“We were eating pasta and out of nowhere he stared talking about Charlie’s Angels then he flipped out when he didn’t recognize the condo. Oh before that he said he remembered a name, Kella, whom he just said was his mother. And he said he never had a sister, did I do something wrong?” Kurt wrapped his arm around himself.
“No you didn’t do anything wrong, the mind is a powerful thing. There is a reason why Blaine only remembers up to 16. All you did was help those memories surface. There’s is no reason to keep him over night. Other then in his mind he is a minor, he can go back with you, but I recommend looking up his parents to see if they know anything that could trigger the missing memories.” Dr. Neutin said. Opening the door and seeing Blaine whisper in Rachel’s ear. She got a ear-to-ear grin and Blaine started blushing as he moved back to the hospital bed.
“Ok Blaine,” Dr. Neutin started. “We are going to let you go home with Kurt tonight, but in two day, that’s going to be Thursday, we are going to have a long appointment with the psychologist, but if anything happens between then call me, I don’t mind making a house call, I like 2 miles from Dates and Cake 15 from the hospital. I’m just saying.” She turned and shook Kurt’s hand. “Have a great evening.”
“Is Rachel coming home with us?” Blaine asked standing up looking to the brunette.
“She better be,” Kurt said staring at Rachel for her answer.
“Fine, I guess you don’t want a niece or nephew any time soon. Let me tell Finn.” Rachel retrieved her phone from her purse and dialed her husband’s number.
“Hey honey,” she said with a smile just hearing his voice. “I'm staying with Kurt tonight, but I’ll tell you all about it when I get home. I love you. Good night.”
Blaine skipped over to Kurt, “can I ride home with Rachel?”
“No,” Kurt said suddenly feeling like a bad parent when Blaine’s face fell. “She’s a bad driver; I’m saving your life.”
“Okay,” Blaine walked to the door and put his hand on the handle.
Rachel looked at Kurt and hissed “Meany!”
“You can hang out with her tomorrow, she doesn’t work, and 3 years on Broadway pays her bills.” Kurt said staring at Rachel's smug face. She took Blaine’s arm and they walked down the hall.
