Blaine was riding his bike around his mom as they went over to the Hummel’s, Blaine always enjoyed meeting new people. A trait he gained from his mother, and with Cooper gone Blaine needed a distraction to stop thinking about that night in the car.
Blaine parked his bike as Sarah walked up the drive way they met at the door and Blaine rang the door bell. Burt answered the door with a fair smile, "hi there." He said.
"I'm Sarah Anderson, my son Blaine insisted we bake you some welcome to the neighborhood cookies, I came to deliver them." Blaine’s mother explained.
"Thank you so much, please come in, my name is Burt Hummel by the way, let me just get my son. Kurt, we have company." Burt said. His son came around the corner with a beaming smile and locked eyes with Blaine.
Blaine swallowed hard as he looked at the most handsome boy in his life. Kurt had the most brilliant set of blue green eyes under the sun; his face was soft and round his hair fell over his forehead in a messy style. His lips looked soft and were pink spread into a smile showing off his dimples.
Blaine couldn't place this sudden feeling he had towards Kurt but it was like his whole world stopped and as it began to spin again Kurt was the sole reason beside it.
"Hi I'm Kurt."
"Blaine."
"The Andersons brought us cookies, you mind putting these in the kitchen." Burt interrupted their long handshake. Kurt turned to his dad and took the cookies smiling at Blaine before disappearing to the kitchen.
"Is your wife around, I’d love to meet her before I go." Sarah asked looking at the wedding picture on the wall.
"Elisabeth pasted a few years ago," Burt said.
"Oh I'm terribly sorry." Sarah said but Burt shook his head.
"Its fine, thank you so much for the cookies Sarah. Blaine you're more than welcome to stick around. Kurt has one of those Xbox things set up in his room." Burt said. Kurt returned just in time to hear Burt invite Blaine to stay over.
"Thank you Burt, we'll see you soon. Be good Blaine and home before the streetlights come on." Sarah said running her hand through Blaine’s wild hair. Kurt waved at Blaine to come here and walked him to the bedroom.
"I don't have very many multi player games, mostly race games." Kurt stated looking down at the box beside the TV, "And I'm still unpacking."
"Its okay I don't mind." Blaine stammered.
"Pick a game; I'll grab us some cookies and other snacks." Kurt said chipper and full of joy.
Blaine was suddenly happy with Kurt’s bubbly attitude quickly rubbing off on him. Blaine kneeled down to look at the box of games, most of them were movie turned to games, nothing Blaine would buy for himself but he did have cool race game and one that caught Blaine eyes called Medal Arms. Blaine put together a stack as Kurt returned with their snacks.
"I've never had a guy friend before, this is pretty cool." Kurt said after an hour of playing games eating chips and drinking cokes.
"Really?" Blaine exclaimed.
"Yeah, I mostly hang out with girls. Guys are really mean, but you're awesome. We should be best friends." Kurt said.
"Okay, Kurt. I'll be your best friend." Blaine said cheerfully.
Two days later Cooper came back dressed like a hippy and acting very strange. Everything had a Spanish accent, he stopped gelling his hair and wearing shoes. He and dad were getting into arguments about laws which were strange to hear. When Cooper left he was just as conservative as his father was if not more but now he was very liberal and hates everything his father stood for.
Kurt came over during one of their debates about the second amendment.
"Come on dad, the second amendment is flawed like much of the bill of right, hell I throw in the constitution with it too. The whole thing needs to be redrafted for modern time starting with the second amendment." Cooper shouted easily seeping through the walls.
"You wanna get out of here? This won’t end well." Blaine asked picking up his stack of Pokmon cards.
"I haven't met your brother he sounds intimidating." Kurt said pulling together his cards as well.
"He's cool, but his mind is still in Argentina. It’s driving my dad insane." Blaine explained.
"Argentina, the only country that doesn’t have to cry for me.” Kurt said with a chuckle.
Blaine covered his face and laughed, "Evita, that was funny, I'll have to steal that one from you."
"You're a fan of Broadway?" Kurt asked raising an eyebrow.
"I know the musicals, and the big shows, I was in drama last year. And I saw a show last year when my mom and I snuck away from my dad and brother during college tour week." Blaine explained ignoring the fist slam on the table in the other room.
Kurt gawked at him, "that's amazing I love the classics. I want to go to New York so bad."
"New York smells like pee and the people are rude, Cooper Anderson." Cooper walked through the door and looked at Blaine and Kurt talking.
"You say that like it’s a bad thing." Blaine said. He thought for a second and realized this would be the 4th conversation they had since Coopers been back.
"It is, I sold my soul to attend school there for the next four years." Cooper sighed.
"I'm Kurt by the way, it’s nice to meet you." Kurt said as he and Blaine stood up. Kurt offered his hand.
"I'm a hugger," Cooper said before engulfing Kurt in a hug.
"Cooper stop." Blaine hissed. Cooper let him go and patted his shoulder. Kurt was flushed and started walking towards the door.
"I like what you're doing with your hair kido, growing it out and be a shaggy little bastard your freshmen year, don't conform to what the bureaucrats in this house want." Cooper said.
"We are going to have a long talk we I get back." Blaine said in a stern voice before following after Kurt.
"Ay ay captain, your room 8 o'clock sharp." Cooper hollered.
Blaine saw Kurt waiting for him at the end of the driveway. Blaine approached him and began to apologize. "I'm so sorry, he use to believe in personal space but he's just a weirdo now."
"Its fine, he smells good." Kurt said.
"But if he didn't it would have been a problem?" Blaine joked before realized exactly what Kurt said. There were a lot of things Kurt did that made Blaine wonder about his sexuality but that was it, Blaine was almost sure Kurt was gay. He didn't want to say or do anything because he actually liked hanging out with him.
"Let’s go to my house, I bet I can talk dad into bringing home Chinese." Kurt said walking down the road.
The cool late afternoon brought out all the other kids in the neighbor hood. Blaine waved at a few of the girls who played in their mothers make up making them swoon and giggle.
"You're so popular out here." Kurt said as the guys were all playing basketball in someone’s driveway.
"Hey Blaine, come play." Marcus shouted. "You can come too new kid."
Blaine looked over at Kurt and arched an eyebrow. "Do you want to play?"
"I don't know how, soccer is more my sport." Kurt confessed. "I don't mind watching for a while though."
"Cool come on." Blaine said going over to the house. He was slapping everyone’s hands introducing Kurt.
"Kurt's gonna sit this one out but who's team am I?" Blaine said emptying the content of his pockets onto the grass.
"We all know you're too fat to play skins so you're on mine," Marcus teased making Blaine roll his eyes. Kurt sat in the grass and watched intently as the boys played rough and aggressively. Kurt even flinched the few time Blaine was thrown on the floor. But in the end Blaine’s team won, and Kurt was happy it was over.
"Are you okay, you're bleeding all over the place?" Kurt said handing Blaine his things. Blaine looked at his knees and elbows even the palms of his hands had blood on them.
"Yeah, I should get home and clean up." Blaine shrugged.
"You can do that at my house, its closer, I have some clothes you can wear while these wash." Kurt insisted.
"Okay then that works." Blaine said waving his other friends goodbye. He followed Kurt to the house and right down the hall to the bathroom.
"Give me your cloths, I'll wash them now." Kurt said setting a towel and washcloth on the counter. Blaine hesitantly removed his shirt then tank top blushing a bit as he kicked off his shoes and pants. Blaine picked them up, "here you go."
Kurt turned and smiled taking the cloths and looking at Blaine, "you're not fat." Kurt simply said before clothing the door and leaving Blaine to his business.
Blaine took a quick shower but couldn't stop thinking about Kurt. Blaine liked him, he liked him a lot, and every second they spent together made Blaine like him even more.
Blaine got out and there were shorts and a tee-shirt waiting for him. He dried off and put Kurt's cloths on and left the steamy bathroom. Kurt’s room door was open and TV was playing so Blaine walked in there and saw Kurt at his desk with a sewing kit and a pair of glasses on.
"What are you doing?" Blaine asked sitting on Kurt’s bed.
"Making a bowtie, do you want one?" Kurt said taking his glasses off and looking at Blaine.
"I don't know how to tie them..." Blaine shrugged.
"I'll teach you," Kurt assured Blaine before holding his hand out, "let me see your hands."
Blaine scooted towards Kurt and gave him both hands face down. Kurt slapped them and laughed, "The other way, I want to see if any rocks are in your palms."
Kurt put his glasses on and scanned Blaine’s hands quietly. He found one and pulled it out with tweezers before smiling at Blaine.
"Dad said yes to Chinese, he'll be home soon."
"I like you Kurt, you really are my best friend." Blaine blurted.
Kurt giggled, "Thanks Blaine, you're my best friend too. Let’s finish our Pokmon game."
Burt came home with Chinese and a few blockbuster movies and Blaine stayed as long as he could but the streetlight came on and Blaine ran home. He was a little late but his parents were arguing in their bedroom so only Cooper knew he was late.
Cooper was in Blaine room waiting for him. "Well well well, young Anderson is late coming home. Do I blame the new kid? Hey did you get into a fight?" Cooper said looking at Blaine’s disheveled appearance.
"I played ball for a while got a few cuts, then had dinner with Kurt and his dad." Blaine explained collapsing into his bed.
"You said you wanted to talk, I'm here to talk." Cooper said.
"Do you remember what I told you in the car?" Blaine asked in a hushed voice.
"Of course I do. You changed everything in me Blaine, I need to know you will be okay, that's what changed my political views. Argentina just helped, I want you happy squirt." Cooper said.
"Really? I thought you were just in the mood to piss dad off." Blaine said.
"I'm always in that mood, but I care about you. Is this what you wanted to talk about?" Cooper asked.
"Kinda, you know the kid I'm hanging out with now." At Coopers nod Blaine continued, "Well I kinda like him, and I think he is like me, I just don't want to ask." Blaine said.
"Okay then," Cooper scratched his beard, "do what I do, hold his hand." Blaine looked at Cooper confused so he elaborated. "So when I'm hanging out with a girl and we haven't set any ground rules I try to take her hand, if she lets me, we're on, if she doesn't then we're off. It’s really easy."
"So I just take his hand while we watch a movie or something." Blaine asked.
"Yes, here, I'll give you money and drive you two to the movies just to test this theory out." Cooper said.
"Okay then, if you insist." Blaine shook his head.
"Are we done here?" Cooper asked standing up.
"I guess... so when are you going to start shaving and doing your hair?" Blaine asked.
"As soon as you start remembering to delete your browser history," Cooper said making Blaine’s eyes go wide.
"Cooper!" He wined.
"This is the last time I delete it, who knows what happends when mom or dad decide they want to use your stuff." Cooper shrugged hiding a smile as Blaine went tomato red and burried his face in the pillow.
The following week Cooper drove Blaine and Kurt to the movies, he saw superman returns while they saw the devil wears Prada. Blaine had several opportunities to take Kurt’s hand but he was too nervous and by the middle of the movie his hands were too sweaty to even try.
Their movie ended before Coopers so they hung out in the arcade. Kurt watched Blaine play pinball and asked him, "Have you ever had a girlfriend?"
"Yeah," Blaine answered then realized he should have lied, "but I didn't like her, I don't really like girls. I mean, I don't know. It’s confusing and hard to explain." Blaine stammered losing the game.
"Blaine you're blushing," Kurt smiled then leaned in and whispered, "are you gay?"
Blaine shrugged, "yeah, I think... I've never been with a boy."
Kurt gave Blaine a satisfaction smile, "me too, I think Coopers movie is out." Kurt walked away leaving Blaine confused.
"Wait Kurt." Blaine called snapping out of his trance and chasing after the boy.
Cooper was throwing out his popcorn as Blaine and Kurt came to view, Blaine however ignored him and spoke softly to Kurt. "Why did you wait so long to tell me?"
"I wanted to make sure you were my best friend first. So after you knew you wouldn't run away and be mean to me." Kurt said letting his wall down.
"I could never be mean to you Kurt." Blaine said honestly, "I'm glad you told me, and I told you. Have you told your dad?"
"No, I'm too afraid to. I'm sure he will be okay with it, I'm all he has and he's all I have." Kurt looked up at Cooper who was waiting for them. "Have you told anyone?"
"Just Cooper, I can never tell my parents, they will hate me forever." Blaine said.
"I'm sorry," Kurt said putting his hand on Blaine’s shoulder. "Thanks for taking me out tonight."
"Anytime," Blaine shrugged seeing that their conversation was over he stared walking towards Cooper.
"How was your movie?" He asked pulling his keys out. Kurt went into detail on how perfect Meryl Streep was. He even convinced Cooper to see it soon. Blaine sat in the back seat while Cooper and Kurt talked.
Blaine thought for sure Kurt coming out to him meant something but he went over every inch of that conversation and wondered if the comment about being best friends meant a relationship like when harry met sally. Does Kurt want to go anywhere. They were the only gay boys in Ohio for all they knew, if anything they would date out of pity, Blaine doesn't want that for one second. He was so confused he just decided to give up.
Kurt gave Blaine an awkward hug before going to his house, Cooper didn't bother to say a thing until they got to Blaine’s room.
"Sooo..." Cooper said sitting at Blaine’s desk kicking his feet up.
"He's gay, but I think he just wants to be my friend." Blaine said after a minute of staring at the posters on his wall.
"What happened?" Cooper asked calmly.
"I chickened out with the whole hand holding thing but right before you came out he asked if I ever had a girlfriend. I said yes then no then got tongue tied and he figured it out on said he was too. But I don't know. The whole thing is confusing. I'm giving up."
"No, it’s just starting, would you give up on the fourth quarter of a game, and no you play harder, even if you can lose." Cooper said.
"I know, I don't know what it is about him. There is this light in his eyes that makes all this seems okay."
"It is okay Blaine." Cooper quickly said Blaine just stopped talking and thought.
"I'm going to miss you a lot Coop." Blaine said minutes later.
"Yeah, I'll miss you too." Cooper said looking at Blaine, "we'll talk all the time. I promise."
"I know," Blaine mumbled, "I'm going to bed." Cooper left the room without a word. Blaine lay on his bed and day dreamed about a world where he could have anything he wanted, Kurt on the top of that list.
