Blaine was almost shaking when he got to the piano, he swallowed hard and looked to the crowd, “so I didn't have any swans on stand by, if you know the song maybe help me out.” He said almost flirtatously
He began playing the piano, softly singing, “Tonight I’m gonna have myself a real good time. I feel alive, and the world it’s turning inside out Yeah! I’m floating around in ecstasy.” He hit the note and to his surprise the crowd sung softly with him, “So don’t stop me now don’t stop me.”
Blaine smiled,“‘Cause I’m having a good time having a good time.” He kicked the stool out of the way and as if he were Freddy mercury. He felt stronger empowered as the students sung his back up. He stepped away from the piano and sung to the front row and danced with the band members. By the end of it he was feeling extremely accomplished. He might not have had the bells and whistles Kurt did or killer dance moved Brittany and Santana did but boy did he put on a great performance.
He cleared the stage and Ms July took over talking about Brody and Rachel before they hit the stage. Kurt was grinning he gave Blaine a high five.
“Wow Blaine, you rocked out there.” He said. “I haven’t seen the student body that invested in a queen song since Jesse St James graduate. Great job.”
“Thank you. Thank you so much. I mean you’re phenomenal.” Blaine said. He smiled and asked Blaine to join him to watch Rachel.
They sat off to the side as they watched Rachel and Brody dance a fun jazz number to 'A Change Will Do You Good'LINK.
Rachel was flawless, she sung danced and teased Brody better then Blaine thought possible.
The assembly was over right after a few words from the deans. Blaine walked silently with Kurt to the choir room where he was meeting with everyone else that performed to be judge.
Just when he thought he was having fun at school it turned out to be a test.
Blaine sat next to Tina and nervously waited for the results. Ms. Tibideaux came in and sat before the students with a clip bored in front of her face.
“Excellent work from all of you today. I’ll go a head and start by order of performance. Brittany your opening was phenomenal best we have had in a while. After much consideration from all of us here at PAPA, we would like to give the first 4 in dance history. This now also means a student can receive a 10 in dance or singing, but not both. So Ms. Pierce, congratulations you are now in the top 2 percent of the school.”
Brittany was in completely shock. She covered her mouth and bit back tears. Santana grinned and hugged her.
“And Santana excellent work. We look forward to hearing you tonight.” She said. Santana nodded so ms Tibideaux continued, “Kurt, I’m going to address your back up dancers first. Tina Mercedes, you contrasted with Kurt very well. Tina you have always been my favorite back up dancer, you really know how to keep the performance on the performer. Mercedes you like to pull focus, Brittany does as well but not as badly as you do, she is normally just a better dancer and will ad a quick step or a spin. I’m sorry, but I’m not going to let you sing back up anymore.”
Blaine was in shock Mercedes was great or so he thought, “now Kurt. You and Ms Rhodes have always worked well together, I however prefer you vocals, and I hope tonight your song choice brings more phantom of the opera then not the boy next door. But I will say huge jackmen would have been proud of that performance.”
Kurt smiled and looked at Brittany winking. “Mr Anderson, when William first told me he wanted you to sing in place of Finn and Puck, I thought he lost his mind. Everybody Wants To Rule The World was great, we knew you were a great performance but I did not see this coming at all. You were Freddy Mercury out there Blaine. And I look forward to hearing you tonight.”
Blaine was surprised to say the lease. He got a good job from the principal of the school. That was the best feeling in his life.
“Rachel, I need to speak with you and Mr. Weston alone.” Tibideaux said
No one spoke as everyone left Rachel and Brody, as soon as they were in the hall Mercedes was crying in Kurt’s arm. Brittany was kissing Santana as they ran down the hall to tell Quinn. Blaine looked at Tina and shrugged. The two walked back silently.
“Ms Tibideaux hates Mercedes and loves Rachel. In case you didn’t catch on. You’d think it'd be the other way but Mercedes did and that’s why. You did great. See ya tomorrow.” She parted away and students were leaving the gym still. A few spoke to Blaine.
He went to his brothers classroom for lunch. They ate and Blaine told Cooper about what happened. Rachel walked in almost ten minutes before lunch ended.
“I thought this is where I’d find you Blaine. Hello Mr Anderson.” She said walking in taking a seat.
“hi Rachel. I loved your performance today. I didn’t know you were such a great dancer.” Cooper said.
“Thank you. I actually came to see Blaine about tonight.” She pulled a chair over and sat with the brothers.
“Did you pick your ballad yet?”
“I was thinking of Phil Collins. He’s not a popular guys these days but I know the piano score to Against All Odds and I think I will do well singing that.”
“That is my guilty pleasure song Blaine. I’m sure its a lot of teachers as well. I can’t wait. Wear a tux please. We all look our best normally. Also break a leg. We have been practicing for two weeks now. You’ve got two hours.” She said standing up.
“Thanks Rachel. I’ll do my best.” Blaine said. He looked at Cooper and gave him a face.
