The first glee club rehearsal of the year finally rolled around on Thursday after school and Kurt could not have been more excited. Last year, the New Directions totally tanked Nationals after Rachel and Finn decided to make out after their duet, making literally every person in the theatre uncomfortable. But this year, even Rachel wouldn't let her love for Finn jeopardise her chance to win a competition in New York. After his day of lessons, Kurt hurried to the choir room and greeted his friends before taking a seat in the second row.

"Welcome back New Directions!" Mr Schuester called happily and was met with whoops and cheers from the club.

"As many of you guys already know, nationals are in New York this year so we have got work harder than we have ever worked before! I know it's only the first rehearsal back but I wanna get started on ideas for the set list for sectionals. The theme for sectionals is 'Vintage' so have a think about some songs that will blow the judges away!" And as if a button had been pushed, Rachel's hand shot in the air. Rachel may have swapped her reindeer sweaters and pantsuits for slightly less insulting dresses and mini skirts, but she was still as obnoxious as ever. Kurt did however have a soft spot for her as he knew exactly why she acted this way; she was so driven. Kurt admired that about her and after the diva off where they competed to sing Defying Gravity, their friendship had actually blossomed which was fortunate as he may be spending a lot of time with her in New York after graduation in a few years.

"Mr Schuester, if I may?" She began, shrilly.

"Um...sure, Rachel, go ahead!" Will seemed stunned at her enthusiasm (which after 2 years you would think he'd be used to) and took a seat at the piano bench.

"As many of you know, I have been trolling the show choir blogs all summer to get ahead. I've known about the theme since early August which has given me plenty of time to come up with some incredible ideas for our set list. The main event being... We Don't Need Another Hero by Tina Turner! Obviously I would take lead on that one, I feel like it could be the perfect opener to really, you know, set the standard!" Rachel clapped her hands together in excitement as she looked around the room as if waiting for applause.

Mercedes snorted, causing Rachel's wide grin to falter slightly as she cocked her head.

"I'm sorry, is there a problem Mercedes?" Rachel asked with genuine hurt and confusion in her voice.

"Only that you think your little white girl voice could do that song justice! I say it's Mercedes' year to shine." She replied with confidence.

"Ok guys, there is plenty of time to explore our options but a great first suggestion Rachel! Now let's talk choreography. Mike Chang, I was thinking this year you could actually step up and help me with it?" My Schue asked with a smile. Mike almost jumped at being spoken to, much like Kurt, Mike tended to sit in the choir room quietly but since getting a dance duet with Brittany last year, it finally seemed as though Mr Schue was taking notice of some of the other talents in the group. Mike happily agreed and got up to lead a dance warm up. The hour was spent learning new dance moves and brainstorming ideas. As much as Kurt wanted solos, he didn't quite feel confident enough yet to make his wish known but perhaps he could swing a duet with someone? He would bring it up at a later rehearsal once everyone had settled in a little more.

After rehearsal, Kurt drove home and greeted his Dad.

"Hey kiddo, have you and Finn had any thoughts about dinner tomorrow?" With all of the excitement for Glee, Kurt had completely forgotten to ask Finn.

"Oh sorry Dad, Glee was kind of hectic so I didn't get a chance to ask but you know Finn, he'll eat pretty much anything! Why don't we do a roast chicken?" Kurt replied brightly.

"Sounds good. Remember Carole and I are away this weekend, you want me to leave you some money for take out?" Kurt's stomach lurched. Would Blaine want to have food with him during their study date?

"Um, I think I should be fine to cook but thanks Dad. Besides, if there's an emergency I can always go to Mercedes' house and raid their food." Kurt half joked. Burt nodded and tucked into his spaghetti which he had made before Kurt got home. They ate dinner together and talked about their days before Kurt washed up their dishes and went downstairs to his basement room to do his homework but after only half an hour, Kurt could actually feel the frown lines setting in on his forehead. He wanted to try and do his geometry and calculus homework by himself so he could at least have something to work with when he and Blaine met on Saturday but it was no use. He stood up from his desk and decided to take a shower and wash the stress off his face.

...

The next morning, Kurt walked into homeroom and sat down next to Tina, Mercedes and the empty chair which belonged to Blaine who was late or absent almost every day of his first week. Kurt had stopped expecting him to walk in and just assumed he would see him in French which was first period. But to Kurt's surprise, Blaine swaggered in only 5 minutes late today, looking a little tired but very hot. His curly hair was falling in every direction and his black eyes was almost matched by the other one due to the dark circle under it. Kurt watched as Blaine took the seat next to him and leaned over.

"Um, I realised the other day that I actually don't have your number." Kurt spoke quietly to be as discreet as possible in front of the girls. Especially Mercedes who had already pointed out that Blaine was looking at Kurt on his first day.

"Well we can't have that, can we?" Blaine replied with a smile. Kurt quickly looked to his side to see that Mercedes and Tina were both now looking at him and Blaine. Why did he have to bring it up here and now in front of everyone? Stupid brain. Blaine tore a piece of paper from his notebook, wrote his number on it then slid it over to Kurt.

"Thanks, I'll text you later." Kurt said quickly and quietly.

"Can't wait." Blaine said with a wink. Kurt felt his cheeks flush and he turned back to the girls who were smiling at him with wide eyes. Kurt gave them a warning look as if to say 'shut up' and put Blaine's number in his pocket. To Kurt's delight, the bell for first period rang and he stood up to go to English with the girls. Thankfully, they waited until Blaine was out of sight before they showered him with questions.

"Kurt! Did you just get his number? Are you guys flirting?"

"I didn't even know he was gay!"

"Are you gonna call him?"

Kurt didn't know where to start, he didn't want to tell them anything that had happened so far, especially because he wasn't exactly sure what was going on other than sexual chemistry.

"We're just meeting tomorrow so he can help with with geometry and calculus. I figure if the teacher's are impressed with his work then he should be able to help me pull at least a B." Kurt said nonchalantly. Mercedes and Tina looked at each other, smiled and squealed. Kurt rolled his eyes and turned around to walk to class.

...

Blaine spent lunch under the bleachers with his headphones in listening to music and smoking. He faintly heard the bell ring in the distance through his music, put his cigarette out and started to walk towards the school to get to French. French was the one subject Blaine wasn't acing but he wasn't worried. He was a fast learner and was very academic. Plus, he was partnered with Kurt who was not only very good at French but also made it that much more enjoyable.

He waltzed into class and dropped his bag by the desk before sitting down next to Kurt. Kurt already had his books open and was flicking through the textbook.

"You haven't sexted me yet babe." Kurt almost laughed at how ridiculous Blaine's flirting was.

"Has your flirting ever been successful?" He asked with sass. Blaine shrugged took out his books.

"Successful enough to make you moan on Monday under the bleachers." He retorted casually causing Kurt to choke on the water he had taken a sip of. Blaine snickered and wrote the date at the top of his page.

"Bonjour la classe. Today, we are working on our listening skills. Tournez-vous vers vos partenaires, lisez les articles de vos livres et traduisez." Kurt picked up his textbook and found one of the sections of text before turning to Blaine, ready to read to him. Blaine was still working on translating what Ms Monet had said and had a a strained look on his face.

"I'm gonna speak to you and you have to translate what I said." Kurt explained (after recovering from his near death experience at the shock of what Blaine had said), to speed up the process. Blaine nodded and looked a little bashful. Kurt raised his eyebrow at the new expression on Blaine's face.

"Did you not take a language at your old school?" Blaine laughed at Kurt's question. Blaine spoke 3 languages almost fluently and was pretty good at 2 others as well.

"Actually I did. I speak English, Filipino, Spanish, plus a little Portuguese and Italian." Blaine said casually. Kurt's eyes widen and his mouth opened slightly. He was sure his pupils were dilating because damn. Blaine really was so much smarter than he let on and intelligence was sexy. Kurt suddenly felt a bit embarrassed at his proficiency in only one extra language.

"Well, we should probably get started." Kurt looked down to his book and found the section he would read. He picked an article extracted from La Parisien (A french newspaper) and allowed Blaine some time to flick through his book and translate slowly. The more Kurt read, the quicker Blaine was able to translate certain repeated words and Kurt was starting to see how it would be easy for Blaine to be so smart.

"Your turn." Kurt said after ready 3 samples of text. Blaine began reading and Kurt bit his tongue to stop himself from laughing at the awful pronunciation. Kurt waited for Blaine to finish and then started making corrections. Kurt moved his chair over a little to point at certain words.

"Okay, you see this word? It's que which I think is the same spelling as a word in Spanish which is why you're saying it like 'kay' but in French it's more of a 'kwa' sound. Same thing with this one." Kurt spoke gently and made sure Blaine was understanding what he was saying. Blaine nodded and looked up to be met with Kurt's face engrossed in Blaine's book, making sure he was being careful to pick out each word. Kurt was close enough that Blaine was able to catch the scent of vanilla. He studied Kurt's face and really noticed how beautifully structured he was - his cheekbones were high and his blue eyes stood out against his alabaster skin. There were a few strands of hair that had fallen loose from his coif and were hanging right in front of one of his eyes, Blaine thought it actually looked even better than when it was all in place.

Kurt stopped talking and looked up to find Blaine wasn't listening but instead was looking at him. Kurt huffed.

"Blaine you really need to learn this if you want to pass the oral exam at the send of the semester. The earlier you learn it, the easier it will be." Kurt said.

"Oral exam, you say?" Blaine quickly replied with very suggestive undertones to distract from the fact that he was staring at Kurt. Kurt rolled his eyes in response and moved back over to his own section of the desk. Blaine smiled and looked back down at his book before giving another extract of text a go, ensuring to correct his diction as Kurt had suggested. Kurt gave a satisfied smile as he heard Blaine speak in a more accurate accent.

As the lesson was wrapping up, Blaine leaned over to Kurt.

"Don't forget to give me your address. Oh and feel free to wear that little cheerleading uniform for me tomorrow." He whispered the last part, slung his bag over his shoulder and heading off to his last class. Kurt watched Blaine leave and once again, felt the heat rising up his neck into his cheeks. Blaine was absolutely gorgeous but Kurt was very knew to all of this. He didn't want to get carried away and do something that he might later regret. So his cheerios uniform was absolutely out of the question, he was not going to encourage Blaine.

Kurt sat down in his home economics class and pulled out his phone to text Blaine. He sent his address and told Blaine he would be free after midday. He knew his Dad and Carole would be gone by then so he would have the house to himself and be able to dodge any awkward meetings. Just as he was putting his phone away, it buzzed. Kurt looked down at it and saw that he had a reply from Blaines number.

You suck at sexting - Blaine

Kurt rolled his eyes and ignored the text for now, slipping his phone into his pocket.

...

After Blaine had eaten his dinner on Friday evening, he headed up to him room and found himself reaching for a blank page and a pencil at his desk. He had a few thoughts which had been crafting their way into lyrics throughout the evening and he needed to get them out. Once he'd played around with some of the phrasing, he grabbed his guitar and brushed the strings whilst moving his fingers into different positions on the neck and figure out which chords he felt would work best for the melody he had constructed. Once he had a rough idea of the chord progression, he jotted them down next to each line.

The way his hair falls in his eyes - C Em Am

Makes me wonder if he'll

Ever see through my disguise - C Em Am

And I'm under his spell

Everything is falling - C Em

And I don't know where to land - B7 Em

Everyone knows who he is - Am

But they don't know who I am - C

He pondered over the words and thought about what they meant. A flash of Kurt's face appeared in his mind from earlier in the day when he had looked at Kurt during French. He thought about the people who would run to meet Kurt between classes and the girls who always saved him a seat in the cafeteria. Blaine furrowed his eyebrows as he studied the lyrics again. The song was about Kurt. He dropped his pencil and stood up from the desk, leaving his guitar to rest against it.

"What the hell?" He whispered to himself. Blaine wasn't the kind to write love songs, his songs were usually a little more upbeat and more on the rock'n'roll side things so this was very new. He shook his head and get rid of the plague of thoughts going through his head. He was absolutely sure he was confusing attraction (and frustration) for affection. He took out a cigarette and climbed out of the window to sit on his spot on the roof when his phone buzzed.

Sexting is totally not a word - Kurt

Blaine felt a smirk growing on his face. There was absolutely no reason for Kurt to text him other than to open a dialogue. Blaine certainly wasn't going to miss this opportunity. He put his cigarette in his mouth whilst he typed out a reply.

Totally is. You just need someone to show you how to do it - Blaine

Blaine hit send and exhaled.

I think I should stick to math for now ;) - Kurt

Wasted potential - Blaine

Blaine finished his cigarette and climbed back in through his window before stripping off and heading to the bathroom to get ready for bed. He took a quick shower, brushed his teeth and jumped onto his four-poster bed. He found himself falling into a blissful sleep to the thought of Kurt dancing in his cheerios uniform. Tomorrow was the (not really) long anticipated chance he would get to hook up with Kurt. Usually he was able to pull a guy in a day or two but Kurt seemed to be more of a slow burner but he was up for the challenge - whatever it took to get Kurt into bed, he would do.
