I’m sorry if what I said upset you Kurt. I really care about you and was trying to help.
Kurt didn’t answer that text or anymore for Blaine for the rest of the night in fear of saying something he’d regret. The next day at Dalton, he couldn’t even look at Blaine without feeling a hot rush of blood and emotion rise to his face. Thank Gaga that it was the weekend the next day and he didn’t face Blaine again until Monday. But as the weekend progressed, he found himself missing waking up to a cheerful Good Morning text that lead to a full day conversation, whether it be in person or through technology. It left a painful knot in Kurt’s chest that just would not go away, and he couldn’t stay mad at him.
And then it all hit him like a ton of bricks; the reason behind his behavior and moods with Blaine when it came to sex appeal. He didn’t want to be sexy for anyone else but Blaine. Why?
He was in love with the dark-haired, hazel-eyed dreamboat.
Coming to this realization created an even bigger knot in his chest for two reasons: one, he didn’t know why it took him so long to figure out, and two, he didn’t know if Blaine could ever return his feelings. That thought alone brought him to tears that he didn’t know he was holding back until he felt one trickle down his flawless porcelain face. He let out a small sob as he began to think. He had to come up with a way to show Blaine his feelings without looking like a complete and idiot doing it like months ago.
This is what brought him here, sitting in his Navigator on a cool Sunday evening in front of Blaine’s sister’s apartment complex in Westerville, Ohio. He needed help and knew that the one person who knew Blaine better than he did was his older sister. They were really close, practically joined at the hip from all the pictures and stories Blaine shared with him. He knew that in order to get his feelings across to Blaine in the best way possible, he was going to have to go with some resources. Resource number one: Leah.
Thinking back to a few weeks after his transfer to Dalton, Kurt reminisced when he first learned about Blaine’s sister. Kurt was getting into his normal routine of meeting Blaine at his locker before they walked to class. Blaine was usually ready to go as soon as Kurt showed up, but this morning was different. When he got to Blaine’s locker, Kurt saw him sprinting down the hall, looking a little disheveled and distraught as he did so.
“Hey, you.” Kurt said a little nervous.
“Hey..I’m sorry- I’m not- ready- to go yet.” Blaine managed to say between trying to breathe properly and get his locker open. “I’m a little off schedule this morning.” He fidgeted with the lock a few times but finally popped it open.
“That’s alright. Any particular reason? Is everything okay?”
“Yeah every thing’s fine. My sister just moved back to town and I spent the night at her new apartment last night. We stayed up so late just catching up that I passed out on her couch without setting the alarm on my phone. When I woke up and saw that it was already 7:15, I freaked out a little. I had my uniform with me, but I didn’t even get to say goodbye or gel my hair.” He rolled his eyes, and pointed to his messy mane. “Hence, the curly mop on top of my head.”
Kurt had noticed the new look, and before he could help himself, “I think it’s cute” slipped out of his mouth as Blaine bent down to put his books in his messenger bag.
“What?”
“I didn’t know you had a sister,” Kurt quickly saved, pointing to the one picture in Blaine’s locker. “Is this her?” It was of Blaine hugging a shorter girl with beautiful, piercing green eyes and black hair curled into perfect ringlets that just touched her olive tone shoulders. Blaine’s lips were attached to her cheek and Kurt could tell she was laughing genuinely. Her smile definitely gave Blaine a run for his money. It was breath-taking to look at.
“Yep. That’s Leah. Beautiful isn’t she?”
“She’s stunning. When was this taken?”
“This past summer when she graduated from NYU.”
“You guys look so much alike. She’s like the female version of you.”
Blaine chuckled at this. “Yeah we got that a lot when we were younger. Sometimes people would ask our mom if we were twins.” He smiled at the memory as he got up to close his locker.
Kurt smiled at his smile, pushing off the lockers. “I definitely see why people would think that. Just from that picture I can tell you guys are pretty close.”
“Yeah. She was basically my best friend growing up. She was the first person I came out to, talked to about boys, and went to whenever I got bullied in school.” Blaine explained as they fell into step on their way to their first class. “When she found out why I transferred to Dalton it took everything I could do to convince her not to come home just to hunt and maim the guys that chased me out.”
“Wow. That must be nice. I’ve always wanted a sibling. I mean, Finn is great and everything but it’s not the same.”
“Yeah I understand. I love her more than anyone in this world. She’s the one person in the entire world that knows everything about me. There isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for her, and vice versa.”
Kurt caught a side glance at Blaine and could he was somewhere else far away, wearing a sweet smile as if he was going through all the memories of the two right there in middle of a crowded hallway. He was just about to ask what he was thinking when a loud bell sounded and it made the pair jump slightly.
“Oh, I better get to French before Madame Moreau makes me get up in front of the class and recite the alphabet backwards in front of everyone, like she made Nick do last class for being two minutes late.” Kurt laughed lightly.
“Alright,” he said, turning to walk in the direction of his class. “I’ll see you in History.” Glancing over his shoulder, he turned around before even taking his first step. “Wanna go to the Bean after Warbler practice tonight?”
Although the question hadn’t surprised him, Kurt still had to will his cheeks not to redden. “In these few weeks that you have known me Blaine, have I ever said no to that question?” He rolled his eyes at his friend.
Blaine raised an eyebrow and taped a finger on his lips, feigning trying to think of a time when he had. “Well, no, but I didn’t want to assume anything.” Kurt couldn’t help but smile. Blaine was actually taking his feelings into consideration, and he couldn’t remember the last time anyone had done that.
“Well, thank you for that. Yes, I would love to go the Bean.”
Blaine beamed. “Alright, sounds like a plan. See ya.” He said with a playful wink as he walked into his class. It was a good thing too, because Kurt was pretty sure his heart was beating out of his blazer. He took a quick look at the clock and jogged to his class just as the final bell rang.
Just thinking about that memory reminded Kurt that he absolutely needed to do this. He shook all the doubt from his mind. He needed to tell Blaine how much he cared about him. He needed to see him as happy again as he was that day.
This was it. It was now or never. With a slight sigh, Kurt pulled his keys out of the ignition, shoved them into the pocket of his black Armani peacoat, opened the door and stepped out onto the pavement. He looked up at the complex, and let out a foggy breath in the cold rainy air, slowly making his way to the stairs that lead to Leah’s front door.
