A few weeks later, Kurt is back in Ohio. After cheering Blaine on at regionals and celebrating New Directions' win, he'd promised Blaine to stay a couple of days longer and help him pick a song for his NYADA audition. Blaine's parents are out of town - as they are most of the time - which is why they decided to go to Blaine's house.
They start out both on their back, listening to the compilation CD Blaine had made with possible audition songs, their eyes closed, commenting on the songs once in a while. When the third song starts playing (Dancing Through Life from Wicked), Blaine opens his eyes and looks at Kurt. The afternoon sun shining through the window makes him look like an angel, he thinks. He can't help himself. He leans down and kisses Kurt on his forehead, the touch of his lips on Kurt's skin feather light. Kurt slowly blinks his eyes open and Blaine is hit by a vision: Kurt in bed next to him, naked under the covers, the cars passing in the streets of New York as background noise. Blaine waking him up by peppering his face with soft kisses. Kurt smiling as he opens his eyes and sees Blaine's hazel eyes staring back at him, lifting his left hand to cup his cheek, his wedding ring cold against Blaine's skin compared to the warmth of Kurt's hand as he whispers: "Good morning, mister Hummel-Anderson."
"I love you," Blaine says. He doesn't give Kurt the chance to reply, just covers Kurt's lips with his, trying to pour all his love for the beautiful man in his arms in one single kiss. Kurt is the one to pull back first. "I love you too," he says as he puts his left hand on Blaine's cheek, just like he did in Blaine's daydream. "So much, Blaine." And when Blaine opens his eyes and sees the warmth and sincerity in Kurt's eyes, he doesn't hesitate any longer.
"Will you marry me?" It comes out barely a whisper, but the way Kurt's eyes widen and his mouth opens slightly tell him he definitely heard.
"We don't need to get married immediately," he hurries to explain. "It can be a long engagement. I can wait, as long as you want me to, but... When I move to New York next fall, I want to know that it's the beginning of the rest of my life with you by my side. I want to know that you'll be my husband. Not necessarily now, but. One day."
Kurt is silent for what feels like an eternity and Blaine is about to reassure him that he doesn't need to answer now, that he can think about it, that he understands that he needs to let this sink in, when Kurt says: "I want that too." It's spoken with so much certainty, but Blaine needs to know what exactly that means.
"Is that... Is that a yes?"
"Yes!" Kurt laughs, tears in his eyes. "Yes, I'll marry you!"
Later, Kurt will sit on the edge of the bed while Blaine kneels at his feet and puts the engagement ring on his finger, but right now, all Blaine can do is pull Kurt closer to him and kiss him for all he's worth. The ring can wait. They've got a lifetime together in front of them, after all.
