Christmas has never been Blaine's favourite holiday. He usually spends it at a boring party his parents throw for their friends and colleagues, stuck watching Cooper try to flirt with as many girls (and sometimes even guys) as he can without his parents noticing.

This year is different though. This year, his boyfriend's father flew him out to New York so he could spend Christmas Eve with Kurt. They went ice skating together, had dinner in Kurt's loft and now they're lying on Kurt's bed, just looking at each other as if they've never seen each other's face before. Blaine can't help thinking this would be the perfect moment to propose. They're finally reunited after being apart for a long time, they've spent a perfect day together,... Now would be a great moment.
Except they're not alone. Burt is sleeping on the couch, and what if Kurt says no and freaks out and the noise wakes Burt up? Or what if Kurt says yes and they both freak out and the noise wakes Burt up? Just... What if Burt wakes up? That reminds him that he hasn't even asked Burt for permission yet. Yeah, maybe now isn't the perfect moment after all. So Blaine does the next best thing. He leans in to give Kurt a soft kiss. Kurt kisses back and soft soon turns into heated and frantic.
"Hold up. Stop," Kurt whispers as he pulls back way too soon for Blaine's liking.
"Why? Did I do something wrong? Oh God, I didn't hurt you, did I? Kurt, are you okay -"
"Shh, no of course not honey, I'm fine," Kurt whispers, softly stroking Blaine's cheek to assure him everything is okay. "But my dad's still sleeping in the living room, and as much as I really want to continue this, I refuse to have sex with you when there isn't at least a door separating us from my father," he says as he motions to the curtain between his room and the rest of the apartment.
"Yeah, of course, you're right," Blaine answers, trying not to look like a kicked puppy for not being able to have sex with his incredibly hot boyfriend and failing miserably.
"Hey, why the long face?" Kurt asks. "Is it just because we can't have sex? Or is something else bothering you?"
Blaine sighs and looks up from where he's fiddling with the blanket. "It's just... I miss it so much. Being intimate with you. Kissing you. Touching you. Just having you near me. It's so hard, Kurt. I wish I could spend every waking moment with you, but I know I have to leave again in two days and it hurts so much."

He didn't mean to ruin the moment by saying all that, but there is something about the soft concern in Kurt's voice and the way he looks at Blaine that makes it impossible for him to not be honest, so the words had just spilled out of his mouth. He wishes they hadn't, because now Kurt looks sad too and that's not what he wants at all.
"Oh honey," Kurt whispers, "I know, it hurts for me too. I wish more than anything that you could just stay here with me, but it's just not possible. Not yet."
"I know," Blaine whispers back. "I know, it's okay, I was just being silly. I'm sorry, just forget my whining." There's a small smile on his lips after he says it, but the sadness still shining through in his eyes betrays him.
"Hey, I'm still here now," Kurt says as he pulls Blaine closer to him. "So what would you like to do while you still have me?" he asks, and when he sees Blaine raising his eyebrows, a playful smile forming on his face, he adds: "Except for sex, obviously," and the playful smile becomes a pout. Kurt has never been able to resist that pout, so he leans in and kisses Blaine, soft and sweet. He doesn't let it linger. He doesn't want to get carried away like before, but it seems to be enough for Blaine, because when he pulls back this time, the warmth in Blaine's eyes is back and there's a genuine smile on his face. Kurt pulls him to his chest and they hold each other for the rest of the night.
