It's Thanksgiving and Blaine is getting ready to go on stage to perform at sectionals. Five minutes before it's time, he gets a phone call. It's probably Cooper, he thinks as he reaches for his phone in his pocket and walks away from the rest of the glee club to get some privacy. Cooper is supposed to be here tonight, but Blaine wouldn't be surprised if he cancelled last minute because he has an important audition for another silly commercial coming up and he needs to practise his five lines or something equally stupid.
It's not Cooper though, he notices when he finally manages to fumble his phone out of his pocket. It's Kurt. His face immediately lights up when he sees his boyfriend's name on the screen and he's convinced Kurt can hear the smile in his voice when he picks up.
"Hello Gorgeous."
Kurt giggles at the nickname and Blaine can only smile wider because his boyfriend is so adorable. And that's when it hits him a second time. He wants to propose to Kurt. He wants to hear that giggle when Kurt finds him cleaning the living room of their apartment in his underwear when he gets home from class. He wants to hear it when he calls Kurt to let him know it'll take him a bit longer to get home from work, but says something silly to make it up to him. He wants to hear it when Blaine comes home with a bag full of little bowties for their 5-year-old son. He wants to marry Kurt and be with him for the rest of his life.
"Blaine? Hello? Earth to Blaine!"
And then he realizes he can't ask. Not right now. He only has four minutes left before he has to perform. He also really doesn't want to do this over the phone. So he shakes himself out of his thoughts and answers Kurt.
"Yeah I'm still here. Sorry, I guess I'm a bit nervous," he says. It's not a lie. He is nervous, he's just not sure how much of it has to do with performing and how much with the fact that he seriously considered proposing to his boyfriend over the phone four minutes before a glee club competition.
"Aww don't be, honey. You'll do great, I'm sure of it."
"Thanks."
"I love you, sweetheart," Kurt says, and he still sounds a bit breathless when he says that, like after all this time, he's still scared Blaine won't say it back.
"I love you too, honey," Blaine replies. And I always will, he thinks.
