"Fancy seeing you here!"

Kurt whipped around from his spot in the hospital cafeteria line (he was getting a coffee for himself before going up to see his father). There, behind him and with the brightest smile he'd seen all day, was Blaine.

"I'm always here on Fridays," Kurt shrugged lightly, returning with his own hesitant smile.

"What a coincidence! I'm always here on Thursdays, but I decided that if I wanted to catch a glimpse of a certain man from the elevator, I might just have to make an exception. And here you are."

"Here I am."

There was one of those comfortable silences before Blaine nudged him and pointed to the freed coffee machine. Kurt blushed darkly and grabbed a Styrofoam cup.

"You know, if you like coffee, I'd love to maybe take you out sometime. There's this great little shop on Fourth street downtown, and we could go later or tomorrow or if you're busy, I can wait. Unless you don't want to-" Blaine was, surprisingly, just as nervous as Kurt was (or so it seemed due to his babbling).

"I'd love to get coffee with you. I'm free tomorrow morning?"

"Great! It's called the Lima Bean, just past Cherry Avenue. I'll meet you there at 9."

"Okay, Blaine..."

"Anderson."

"Hummel. Kurt Hummel."

"I'll see you there!"

As Kurt made his way down Fourth Avenue, he was almost literally hitting himself in the forehead. Why was he being so stupid? He couldn't date. Supervillains don't date, and they certainly don't fall for cute guys with curly hair and the most beautiful hazel eyes... It was destined for disaster! What if Blaine found out he was Porcelain? What if he turned out to be just like everybody else in Lima City and betrayed Kurt when he was least expecting it?

But as Kurt crossed the street at Cherry Avenue and saw his date(?) waiting anxiously outside of the coffee shop with one hand in his pocket and the other running frantically through his hair, he couldn't have been less concerned about the supervillain portion of his identity.

"Hi, Blaine Anderson."

"Hello, Kurt Hummel." Blaine's lips quirked upwards immediately. He held open the door for the slightly taller male and followed him inside.

The Lima Bean was small, but cozy, with brown couches and a few scattered tables that were just far enough to be private, but close enough to encourage the whole 'togetherness' vibe of the place. There was only one other couple in the shop, a man and a woman completely content with sipping their drinks and chatting calmly without a care in the world. The barista seemed to know Blaine by name, as well as his order, so Kurt threw in his grande nonfat mocha and watched in amusement as Blaine pulled out his wallet before he'd even finished naming his coffee of choice.

They waited for a few minutes before the barista handed over their coffees with a grin, and then they made their way over to a table in a corner away from the door.

"I know it's not exactly high-class or anything, but I love the feel of this place and the coffee's pretty good."

"It's perfect, Blaine."

They were quiet for a moment, not sure of what to say to each other. After all, they'd only met twice. In a hospital, no less.

"So... tell me about yourself." Blaine seemed perfectly at ease with listening to whatever Kurt had to say, leaning into attention and nursing his drink between his hands.

"Well... my birthday is in May, so I'll be twenty-one in about six months... Um, I... I'm not really very interesting, Blaine."

"Of course you are! I bet you're the single most interesting guy in all of Lima City!"

"I'm really not."

"Well, you seem to have an eye for fashion, and you have the most melodic voice. Do you sing?"

"No... I used to, but not anymore."

"That's a shame; I'm sure you were amazing."

"What about you?"

"I love singing, if that's what you were asking about. I was in my high school choir, lead singer, actually. I have an older brother, Cooper, who's an actor... kind of. He's in a couple commercials. I love reading and jumping on furniture, and I play piano and guitar."

"I took piano lessons as a kid..."

"Really? I bet you were great."

"I never practiced much... only when my mom sat with me."

"What's your mom like?"

"She's dead," Kurt said dully.

"I'm so sorry, I didn't know-"

"It was a long time ago."

"I don't know if this is overstepping, but how did she die?"

Blaine had set his coffee on the table and reached over to grasp one of Kurt's hands with his own, warm ones. He looked sympathetic, but in the most honest and thoughtful way Kurt had experienced since he was eight years old and a police officer had come to his house at two in the morning to tell his father that his wife was dead with no emotion, no care in his eyes or in his voice.

"She was...killed. By some people who she had trusted."

"That's awful."

"It was..."

"I know she'd be happy, though," Blaine tilted his head in a way that made his eyes catch Kurt's directly, "because her son is the most beautiful, wonderful man I've ever met."

"You don't know me very well, Blaine."

"No, but I want to."

Porcelain wasn't active at all the next two weeks. There weren't any robberies or suddenly public secrets. There were no hostages and no visits to the new mayor. Kurt Hummel, however, was out and about more than he had been since...well, he couldn't remember a time when he was around the city so much without his mask on. He and Blaine saw each other almost every single day. They had coffee twice more, went out to lunch several times, and dinner the others. They saw a movie and the sunset, and they had a picnic under the stars. Blaine met his father the second Tuesday and Burt immediately approved of the man's reaction to his 'if you hurt my boy...' speech.

And they'd kissed. Oh my god, how they'd kissed... Kurt got goosebumps every time he thought of that man's lips and how they fit wonderfully with his own, like they were made for each other. Blaine was always gentle and kind, and he never pushed Kurt for more than he was ready for. They were boyfriends, and even after just two weeks, Kurt couldn't imagine his life without Blaine Anderson.

But everything had to come crashing down eventually.

He and Blaine were in Blaine's apartment (two blocks from the Lima Bean, which is why he visited it so often) snuggling on the couch and channel surfing, when a piece of news caught the darker man's eye.

"Has Porcelain given up?" the reporter began. "There has been no sign of Lima City's resident supervillain for seventeen days; he was last seen escaping The Warbler at the mayor's office and hasn't been spotted ever since. Speculation has begun to surface that perhaps he has given up trying to terrorize the area, or that maybe The Warbler has gotten him behind bars. However, it has come to our attention that our hero has also been absent for some time, and while he has not been needed to solve any crimes or to save any victims recently, it is still a mystery as to what has been keeping him away. The Lima City Police Department-"

"Blaine. Turn it off."

"What?"

Kurt looked at him pleadingly, almost in tears. "Turn it off. Please."

Blaine hit the power button and immediately stared at his boyfriend in concern, tightening his arm around the other's waist.

"Are you okay? What's wrong?"

"I- I just...don't want to listen to anything about P-Porcelain," he spat out his own alter-ego with enough venom to surprise himself.

"Kurt, are you afraid? Because The Warbler-"

"I don't want to hear about him either!" Kurt was almost shouting with all of the emotions bottled up inside him ready to burst. "Why can't we just live our lives without superheroes?! Without supervillains?! Nothing good ever comes from people with powers! I just... I just want to be with you," he whispered at the end. The tears finally leaked out of his ocean-blue eyes and down porcelain cheeks.

Blaine pulled the distraught young man to his chest, placing Kurt's head under his chin and rubbing soothing circles on his back as Kurt sobbed. He didn't know what was going on, and he was  honestly confused by the outburst, but he knew that his boyfriend was hurting and he would do anything to make it go away.

Once Kurt calmed down enough that his sobs became sniffles and the tears subsided, Blaine ran his fingers through the younger man's hair and opened his mouth to speak.

"I don't know why you're so upset, baby. I really don't. But I understand what you mean. Sometimes it's hard to just be when there are superpowerful people out there trying to take over the city and equally powerful people trying to stop them. It's hard to be in the middle of it, because we all are in this city. It's hard to deal with the fact that there are people out there that have some sort of evolutionary advantage that seems to defy the laws of human nature. But you don't ever have to think about it if you don't want to, Kurt. You don't have to let their fights affect your life. It isn't your battle to be a soldier in. If you want to live your life without all of that supernatural mayhem, you can. And I'll be right there with you, baby. Always. I don't want anymore than your company and your hand in mine for the rest of my life. I know we haven't really known each other long, but I don't think this is just a fling. I don't know what I'd do without you."

Kurt looked up from Blaine's chest with so much love and hope in his eyes that Blaine couldn't think of anything else to do but lean down and claim his lips for what seemed like the millionth, blissful time. It was everything either men could hope for in a brief touch of lips. Kurt pulled away after a few seconds and smiled.

"I promise, Blaine- I'll be here for as long as you want me. Nothing could stop me now."
