So now that he’s sat in the cab and is on his way to the bakery, he tries not to think about how Blaine had smelled and how tightly he had hugged him. He surely only wanted to help him out because a wedding planner that had a nervous break-down is probably not someone he has a lot of confidence in. Blaine is going to marry Ms. Lopez and that’s that.
And Kurt is okay with that. He likes Blaine and he wants him to be happy. The man’s got a good heart and he just hopes Ms. Lopez knows how lucky she is to have him.
Sighing at his own thoughts and how silly he is being, he pays the driver and gets out of the car and onto the street. It’s still cold but at least it’s not windy today so he isn’t freezing when he steps inside the pastry shop. Everything smells nice here. When he has time, Kurt sometimes comes here and just looks at the pretty cupcakes and pies and every now and then, he buys one as a treat for himself.
He knows the owner since this is his go-to shop when it comes to wedding cakes, so when the woman behind the counter recognizes him, she calls for her boss and a moment later, a woman in her late thirties comes around the corner. The apron she’s wearing is stained with icing and jam but she’s wearing the brightest smile as she approaches Kurt and shakes his hand. “Mr. Hummel, always a pleasure.” She nods and basically drags him into a room in the back where she has put up a few cakes already.
“So, I got all the ones you asked for and put my menu over there.” She informs him happily and blows a strand of brown hair that has escaped from under her chef’s hat away from her face. Kurt just smiles and nods, looking around. Everything looks really delicious and he basically wants to dive into the butter-cream.
“Everything looks fabulous, Mrs. Walker.” He nods just as the door-bells rings and signals the arrival of Soon-to-be Mr. and Mrs. Anderson. While Mrs. Walker retreats to the kitchen, Kurt walks back to the front to greet them with a bright smile.
He tries not to notice Blaine’s eyes on him, how they seem to check if he’s okay again as he shakes both of their hands. Neither does he want to feel the tight grip Blaine has on both his hand and how his stomach does some weird twist at that. The other man holds on for just a second too long and it isn’t until Kurt raises an eyebrow that he drops his hand. Ms. Lopez is quick to grab it after that and interlaces their fingers possessively.
Kurt ignores the glance she shoots him and instead turns on his heel, motioning towards the room in the back. “Alright, if you follow me, we have a selection of cakes that meet your preferences perfectly.” He points out with a smile as he stops and waves around the room.
Nodding, Ms. Lopez takes a step forward, tugging her fiance along as she walks around and takes a look at each of the cakes. “Did you get the strawberry cream one?”
“Yes.”
“Butter cream?”
“Over there.”
“Vanilla-chocolate?”
“To your right.”
Ms. Lopez hums and Kurt has the feeling she had hoped that one had been missing. She seems tense and she constantly shoots both Kurt and Blaine looks. He wonders what’s going on in her head.
“See, Santana. I told you everything would be here. I think we found ourselves a pretty good wedding planner.” He grins over at Kurt but he doesn’t pay that much attention and instead mainly watches Ms. Lopez squinting and sees how her knuckles turn white as she clutches to the man’s hand tighter while he continues to smile at Kurt. Somehow, he feels very uncomfortable.
“Blaine, honey. Let’s try the butter cream one.” She decides and drags him over. Kurt is about to hand them forks when she simply sticks her finger into the icing and locks his eyes on Blaine.
Kurt’s eyebrows shoot up when she very slowly raises the finger to her mouth and wraps her lips around it. He can basically see her tongue working around it as she stares at Blaine. Daring to glance at him, he sees his eyes are about twice their normal size and his ears are tinted red with embarrassment.
Ms. Lopez moans around the finger before pulling it out with a plop and licking her lips, a sultry smirk painted across her face. “Delicious, darling. Just delicious.” She hums and gives Kurt a look from the corner of her eye.
Slowly, he starts to think this is all directed at him. Like this is some sort of show because she senses there is something off. Only that there isn’t. Blaine was there when he had needed someone, of course, but why exactly did she feel the need to give her finger a blow job in the middle of a bakery?
Blaine gives a slow nod, then looks around, obviously trying to find something to distract himself from whatever it is his fiance is trying to do. Kurt wishes he could just leave, escape the death-glances Ms. Lopez keeps shooting him. He doesn’t even know what her problem is. He’s pretty sure she knows oh too well just how much Blaine is into her.
But still, she keeps staring and Kurt clears his throat and turns to eye the vanilla-chocolate one. But of course, just as expected, a second later the Latina – in tow with Blaine who stumbles after her like a puppy – stops next to him and glances at the cake as well.
“You love vanilla-chocolate, right?” she asks and looks at Blaine.
“I do, yes.” He nods and tilts his head with a frown. “Why?”
At that, she only grins before she pokes her finger into that frosting as well. Kurt thinks she’ll just lick it off again, but instead, she holds it up in front of Blaine’s face with a smirk.
Kurt’s eyes widen and he watches as Blaine does the same. He had obviously not been expecting that. And somehow, Kurt doesn’t like it. That’s what people who plan on getting married do though. They are cute with each other and feed the other one with cake. Kurt tries hard not to let his disgust at that mental image show. He doesn’t like that she can easily do this and that Blaine will post likely suck the icing off her finger now.
He doesn’t though, even though Ms. Lopez is basically nudging his lips with her finger by now.
“Santana, no.” he says quietly and takes a small step back but she follows him. By now, Kurt is leaning against the table with his arms crossed and wonders if he should be amused or upset. He opts for both.
“Come on, you love the chocolate part.”
“I do, but not like this.”
“Baby…” she coos and pouts at him. It takes all Kurt has not to roll his eyes at her behaviour. But he’s a professional so he's supposed to look at his clients with impartiality. Therefore, he cannot develop a dislike towards one of them. He really wants to though.
“Santana. Stop it.” Blaine says finally and grabs her wrist, pushing it down gently. She huffs a breath and quickly licks it off, though all sensuality from earlier has disappeared. She looks more like a child who has been denied more candy and has to stick with their last bit of ice cream.
“Wonderful.” She scoffs and crosses her arms.
Kurt still stands there, slightly awkward while Blaine shuffles on his feet.
“Have you decided on a cake?” he finally, very carefully asks.
“No.” Santana says coldly without a glance at either of the men. “I’ll let you know.”
Kurt notices how it’s strictly I and not We. It’s obvious that she doesn’t like Kurt either. However, it’s a fact that he is the best wedding planner in all of New York and she obviously has taste, so she’s just being passive aggressive. She just doesn’t want Blaine interacting with Kurt, for some reason. Sure, Kurt knows that most people take one look at him and know he’s gay, but this is her fiance. She should be the one being sure he’s not going to run off with a guy.
Nodding slightly, he takes a deep breath. He just wants to get out and go home, this has all been highly confusing and weird. It’s not like there is anything going on between Blaine and him, Santana should know that, she’s marrying him. So why is she so upset?
“Alright, maybe you can just give me a call. I have another appointment now though. I’ll hear from you.” He smiles and shakes their hands. He sees Blaine’s mouth open and close again as he lets go and turns around, heading towards the door in large steps.
Once he’s back in the main shop, he feels a hand grip his shoulder and turns around in surprise. “Blaine.” He says, not so surprised anymore.
“Are you okay?” he simply asks and Kurt knows what he means.
“Yeah. Thanks again for the other night, that was really nice of you. I think you should go back to your fiance now though.” He points out and bites back a witty comment because he needs to be professional.
The moment Blaine turns to see if Santana is catching up already, Kurt steps back and quickly walks to the door. If he stays much longer, it’s just going to confuse him even more. Why is Blaine so sweet to him, why does he keep looking at him and asking if he’s alright?
“Kurt!” he hears him call but this time, he doesn’t turn around. He just steps outside into the cold and buttons up his coat as he calls for a cab.
He doesn’t have another appointment for today, but he needs to get out, needs to be in the quiet somewhere and just think. And he can#t do that when Blaien’s gentle, hazel eyes
