The 3rd of September marked a new start for Kurt Hummel. A new town in a new state on the other side of the country. 2000 miles away was nearly far enough, or at least so he thought.

He thought this was what he wanted. He thought he wanted to be able to walk through the hallways without anyone knowing his name or shoving him. He thought he wanted to be able to sit alone in class without anyone talking to him. He was wrong about all those things. Sure, he felt safer, but why did security have to leave him so lonely?

Lima was a nice enough town. Just different, but that was what he needed; a change. It was a new year and he was going to make it count. No emotions, no attachments, no nothing. This year is all about making every moment count and making dreams come true. And Kurt had one and only dream; NYADA. He wasn't about to let anyone come in the way of him and success. Why else would he have moved across the country?

He wasn't the only one with dreams. There was Rachel Berry, a 5' 2” bundle of obnoxiousness who was dating the quarterback. The only reason he knew her was because he had seen posters for her campaign for Senior-class President in her attempts to also be accepted into NYADA. Despite her presence making Kurt's teeth grind together, she was undeniably talented. He had heard her voice carrying through the hallways in period 5. Glee club he had guessed. Something he had only dreamed of at his old school. It was too late for that now.

Today saw Kurt leaning against is locker eyeing up his competition. She pranced from student to student in the hallway, handing out buttons and flyers and boasting about how she can reach a high f – How that would help her campaign, Kurt couldn't comprehend. Her dazed boyfriend followed by her side loyally, his voice cut off every time he tried to initiate conversation with her.

“Thinks she's all that, doesn't she?” A voice drifted over Kurt's shoulder. He turned slightly to catch a glimpse of a crisp, white shirt tucked into a pair of red trousers. Looking up, he noticed a boy, no older than him leaning against the lockers. He'd never seen the boy before, but his honey eyes looked vaguely familiar. The brown curls on the other hand were completely new and made Kurt's heart flutter for a moment.
The boy noticed the way that Kurt's lips parted as his eyes trailed over his body and laughed quietly.

“Blaine Anderson,” He shyly held out his hand for Kurt's. “I just transferred here from Tennessee.”

Kurt reached out and shook his hand. “I never would have guessed otherwise.”

“I lived there with my Mom. I'm originally from California, we moved when they separated. My Father lives with my brother back in Los Angeles.” Kurt shuddered at Blaine's mention of his old home.

“I just transferred here as well. From Los Angeles actually.”

“That's great! I have to admit I was a little worried about coming here, being the only new kid and all. I've never transferred high schools before. I moved during the summer after junior high.” Blaine continued, scuffing his shoes along the ground. His nervousness was obvious to Kurt. He slowly affirmed his goals to himself. He wasn't about to get distracted by some handsome, polite boy with a pinch of a southern accent slipping through his speech. Really though, how was he supposed to resist?

“Don't be. I've never transferred either, but it's only a year right? Who needs anyone else.” Kurt assured Blaine, while mentally attacking himself for succumbing to his emotions.

“Yeah, I guess you're right. I guess I was just hoping to meet someone special.” Blaine admitted.

“There's always Rachel.” Kurt laughed, turning to watch Rachel try to hand a pin to Santana, only to have her compare Rachel's nose to a beak of a wood pecker and throw the pin back at her.

Blaine joined in laughing. “I don't play for that team” he mentioned quietly and winked, before turning and heading in the other direction for class.

Kurt was most definitely gaping now. He's just a boy, just a boy he kept repeating to himself, but somehow he thought it wasn't going to help.

Kurt couldn't keep himself away, despite how many times he tried. Though he wasn't entirely to blame. Blaine managed to find Kurt wherever he went. They had all their classes, except one together. Blaine was extraordinarily determined to be at Kurt's side all day, not that he was really complaining, but Blaine was making it difficult for Kurt to concentrate.

He could tell that Blaine was intelligent. He scribbled down notes before the teacher had even spoken. He raised his hand and answered every question that was asked. Not to mention that he managed to score 100% on every pop quiz they were handed.

“Are you repeating your senior year or something? Or are you just a genius?” Kurt asked as they left AP Calc. Kurt had yet again watched Blaine finish the assigned work a good half hour before the rest of the class.

“No, I was home-schooled for a few years. I learnt a lot I guess.” Blaine flushed, embarrassed by Kurt's compliment.

“Impressive, though you're making everyone else look bad”

Blaine leaned in close to Kurt, eyes wide. “Thought no one else mattered?”

Kurt's lips trembled for a moment before he bit down on one, looking at the ground. “Maybe that's going to be harder than I first anticipated?”

“I sure hope so, cause you're something special Kurt. See you 'round then?” Blaine put his hand on Kurt's shoulder for a moment and walked in the opposite direction.

No. This wasn't happening. Kurt wasn't falling for anyone. No one was falling for him. No. He refused to believe this.

But maybe he would just let life take its course and figure out the rest later. Really, how much harm could one boy do?
