Sam kissed Kurt lovingly, nuzzling his nose into the krook of his neck and placing small kisses on the same area of skin. Kurt hummed sadly against his lips and let out a shakey breath he hadn't even noticed that he'd been holding. Seeing Blaine like that hurt him, almost as much as it hurt when he had saw him get so angry that night.
"Come on.... let's go to bed yeah?" Kurt nodded, leaning his weight on his fiance. Sam picked him up and laughed lightly before bringing him to the bedroom and removing his clothes before setting him in bed and covering him up. Sam followed, taking a shower, changing into his pajamas and cuddling close to Kurt; tomorrow would be fun, Thanksgiving at the Andersons featuring the Hummels. Sam closed his eyes and fell asleep dreaming of good things.

"Babe, wake up!" Sam whispered, pressing wet kisses on Kurt's neck, in hopes that he would stir and they could get ready for thanksgiving with their family. Unfortunately, Sam's family wasn't home for the holidays so Sam just tagged along with Kurt; it was better than being alone. Kurt opened his eyes, fluttering slightly as Sam kissed warm skin.
"mmm, come back to bed..." He mumbled, pulling his husband closer, Sam laughed and smacked his hand away, earning a small groan from Kurt as he shoved the blankets down over his body and sat up. The entire night Kurt had been dreaming of Blaine, his lifeless body just laying there, and some imaginary barrier not letting him through to his ex-boyfriend. He couldn't even try and sleep without images of Blaine's face blue and body numb; he wondered if Blaine had done it in his right mind or not, he had heard that Blaine could and would try to take his life while not being in his right mind but what if Blaine did it without any edging by the voices in his head?
Kurt slowly got up and walked into the bathroom to take a shower before heading to the Anderson's who had invited his father and family over for thanksgiving. Every year the Anderson's and Hummel's would get together for thanksgiving, but for the passed few years, ever since Blaine had gone back into the hospital Brenard had invited their family over, and usually it was a good festive time, but Kurt didn't know if it would be this year. With Blaine in the hospital he thought no one would be in a good mood. He stepped out of the shower, dried himself off, and got ready for the day. Usually if it were an other thanksgiving, Kurt would have worn something festive and bright, however, today he wasn't feeling like he usually did.
"You alright?" Sam asked, putting toast, and egg whites in front of his husband who immediately got excited about breakfast.
"You remembered!" Kurt exclaimed, looking down at his place in awe. Sam smiled; how could he forget his husband's picky demeanor when it came to egg white verses egg yolk; apparently to Kurt there were too many extra calories, which Sam could have really cared less about, but did so for Kurt.
"Of course I did, your going to be my husband remember?"
"Obviously I remember, how could I not?" Kurt got up and kissed his fiance gently while putting his plate in the sink and walking to the bedroom to do his skin care routine before leaving for thanksgiving.
- Flashback -
Sam walked briskly into the jewlery shop, he had 15 minutes to pick out a ring, pay for it, and meet Kurt where he had asked him to meet him. He looked around the shop, smiling at some he knew his boyfriend would love and frowning because he knew he would have loved all of them; if only Kurt have 20 fingers, he thought, letting a sigh fall from his lips and another ring caught his attention and drew him in.
"Looking for someone special?" The clerk asked motioning to the ring that Sam was looking at in awe. He nodded and kept his eyes glued on the small, silver bands drawn out on plush red pillows, he smiled; perfect....
"Yeah.... that one!" Sam said excitedly.
"Alright I'll be a minute!" She said, walking into the back behind the front desk. Sam heard tons of rummaging and lifting accompanied by a small shriek of happiness. When the clerk walked out holding a small, black box, Sam's insides started to flutter; he was really going to do it wasn't he?
"Here ya go! Any girl would be happy to have you as her husband..." Sam chuckled.
"It's for my boyfriend....."
"Oh my god! So sorry!" She said nervously, chuckling a bit before taking Sam's money and putting it into the cash register.
"It's fine...Have a nice day!" He said, walking out of the store and running to Central Park as fast as he could. He had spent too much time in the shop and now Kurt was going to hate him for being late again.
15 minutes later Sam was running up to Kurt who had his headphones in and was blasting Adele; Sam smiled and tapped him on the shoulder. He turned around and got into ninja pose, laughing when he realized it was just his boyfriend. They hugged, and Kurt felt something hard against his leg.
"EW! Sam..... not cool! off!" He swatted, pushing Sam away who looked terrified; oh crap what had he done now? "That's gross! take your erection else where!" Sam laughed as Kurt pouted, turned his back to him and crossed his arms. Sam took this chance to get down on one knee on the cold concrete and pull out the small box.
"Kurt..... I'm not I swear, look...." He said, knowing it would make Kurt turn around.
"Fine..." He said defeated. When he turned around his heart jumped and his stomach fluttered. Sam was down on one knee holding out a black box that was opened, revealing a ring.
"Kurt Elizabeth Hummel, will you marry me?" Kurt's face softened and tears fell from his eyes; Sam was proposing to him. He nodded and Sam got up excitedly, embracing him.
"So that's a yes?" He asked cautiously
"That's a yes....Sam.... I love...you.." He choked out as Sam took off his mittens and slid the silver band down the other man's long, slender finger and smiled.
"I love y-" Was all Sam could say before Kurt brought their mouths together passionately, not caring who stared or looked at them funny; he was engaged.
-end Flashback-
The Anderson's minus Brenard sat gathered along Blaine's hospital room, hands clasped together and head downs. They were praying to God that their Blaine would wake up soon and be a little bit better. As soon and the prayer ended Blaine's bed started shaking and his monitor went mental as he seized right in front of his family. Shelby called for a nurse who ushered the family out and ushered the doctor's in. The doctor's gathered around the bed and helped Blaine stop seizing. When he stopped his entire family was in tears as his heart monitor stopped beeping along with his heart. The doctor's rushed in and resessitated the young boy, Blaine's heart had stopped once again, just like last night. Shelby held onto Chase who was crying himself and Sebastian let his little sister Rachel cuddle into him while she too cried. As they cried though, they were thankful they all had a life to live, one that wasn't as hard as Blaine's was for him.
It took two hours to get to the Anderson's in Westerville, Ohio. The entire car ride was anything but silent, it was filled with both boy's voices, belting out their favorite songs and the occasional laughs whenever one of them messed up on a lyric or stumbled on a word. When they arrived his father's car was already there, which worried him slightly. Ever since Blaine's episode five years ago, Kurt hadn't been to pleased with the Anderson's. They got out of the car and walked up to the door before knocking.
"Boys!" Shelby greeted, they smiled and moved passed her to walk into the house. Kurt looked at the boy's and sighed in relief, getting up from the couch and walking to greet his son. Brenard looked out and smiled at Kurt who smiled back. Brenard was a nice man, he had gentle eyes; just like Blaine.
"Kurt!" Rachel shrieked from the top of the stairs. Kurt smiled happily and ran up towards her, hugging her tightly. Rachel was Kurt's best friend and even though he had previously dated her younger brother Blaine, they still were best friends.
"I haven't seen you in forever! How's school been treating you? and Oh my god! Kurt is that a ring?" Kurt laughed and nodded.
"Details!" She demanded, pushing Kurt into her room and sitting him down on her bed before sitting herself close to him. Kurt sighed.
"Well, it was two weeks ago and he asked me to meet him in Central Parker and everything is just history I guess" She smiled brightly and grabbed at him, pulling him into a bone crushing hug which left him almost breathless.
"So how's Jesse?" Kurt asked.
"Great!" He looked sadly at her.
"I feel like we shouldn't be smiling today..."
"Why not Kurt!? Today is thanksgiving...." She studied his face and picked up on exactly why Kurt had brought it up. "Blaine huh?" She asked sadly.
"Yeah... I mean the guy tried killing himself last night...."
"I know Kurt but let's just be happy he's no...t dea..d" She choked out, remembering this morning happenings. Seeing her younger brother so helpless killed Rachel and her motherly instinct wanted to take care of him and nurse him back to health. No matter how annoying Blaine got when they were younger, she loved her little brother probably more than any of her sibings. The rest of the afternoon was spent in Rachel's room belting out their favorite songs, reminising, and laughing, they knew they shouldn't have been but being around each other they knew nothing could go wrong.
"So have you guys had sex yet?" She eyed him curiously while looking through her closet and laughing at her high school wardrobe. Kurt almost choked on his water but swallowed it before replying.
"No Rachel.... you know I was saving it for your brother...." Rachel laughed, handing him a napkin to wipe up the water dribbling down his chin. She smiled softly, remembering how happy Blaine was the day he met Kurt at Dalton, she also remembered how surprised she had been when Blaine started falling for him, and even though they hadn't really been friends at that point.
"I know, but... I mean Sam is gorgeous and your fiance now, it should count for something Kurt...." He sighed, knowing Rachel was right.
"Maybe, but I just want to take it slow....just to make sure I'm ready ya know?" She nodded her head and they went back to doing what Kurt and Rachel did the best; Singing and Fashion.
Around six o'clock, everyone gathered around the table. The Hummel's sat in-between multiple Anderson's as they chatted, prayed, and said what they were thankful for. Being around family and friends through a tough time was helping Kurt, he had all his siblings, and the Anderson's to talk to, plus Sam. The Hummel's had only four children; Parker being the eldest, and then the triplets, Finn, Kurt, and Quinn. They went around the table saying things that made others cry, laugh, and some even sad, but at the end of the talk everyone was feeling regenerized and hungry. Shelby places the last dish of food on the table in front of them and everyone gawked, drooling with hunger.
"Looks delicious sweetheart...." Brenard said, smiling lightly and the women before putting some potatoes on his plate before grabbing more things. Everyone dug in and Shelby smiled at the people who complimented her cooking, and was especially surprised when Carole spoke up about it, admitting that she was an amazing cook. Brenard was watching Burt curiously, the older man was eating what Kurt had picked as "healthy" from the batch and put it on his plate with a scowl on his face. Brenard put down his fork and looked up from his plate, everyone was eating away, Chase, Sebastian, Rachel, Harmony, and Tresa, but one child was missing, the one child that Brenard had the most trouble accepting; Blaine. No one had ushered a word about him since this evening started and it was annoying Brenard into high hell, until Burt spoke up.
"How's your youngest son? heard he's havin' a pretty hard time...." He asked innocently, with no intention of starting anything with Brenard, however it did anyway.
"Fine" Brenard spat. "At least he would be, if you wouldn't have been so stupid five years ago to get that restraining order on my son to keep the only one he loved away!" Burt looked at Brenard in horror; that was not what he meant, but he ticked Burt off.
"If you son hadn't been a mental case I wouldn-" Burt stopped himself, immediately feeling like an asshole.
"Dad!" Kurt shrieked, giving his father the death stare. Burt felt even worse when Brenard smiled sadly, got up and left, Chase following him and ready to get mean. He hated his father getting mad about someone calling his brother a mental case when he had done so too many times before.
"Dad!" Chase yelled, Brenard stopped dead in his tracks on the steps just outside the Anderson household. Chase walked up to his father and looked him in the eyes.
"That was uncalled for in there! Sure what Burt said wasn't nice but you started it dad, you, not Burt you started it by sending Blaine to the stupid instituition all those years ago! You know that Schizoaffective disorder is managable without any psychiatrists! all he needed was the medicine which you didn't even allow him until he was 14! and since he's been in the hospital again you've never been in to see him once!"
"How do you know that?"
"I'm the fucking desk manager dad, I see who goes in and goes out! ugh! He's sick dad, and you treat him like he's crap!" Brenard stood there thinking, it had been the first time Chase had spoke up to him about Blaine and it was finally making sense in his head. He had accepted Sebastian, but could never accept Blaine because Blaine was his prized son; he had always been smart in pre-school, he could do math before he even went to school, and was reading chapter books by the time he was four, it had hurt him. Brenard had wanted everything a father would want for his son, but that would never come true now that Blaine might not even live to hear his own father say he loved him.
"I'm sorry...." Brenard said, getting into his car and driving away; knowing exactly what he needed to so, even if it hurt him he had to do something, to make Blaine's pain a little easier on him.
Back at the house Kurt sat on the steps embarassed, his father had just insulted his ex-boyfriend infront of his family and to be honest he didn't really know how to feel about it; on one hand it was sort of true, and on the other, it was uncalled for, but either way Kurt would be going against someone he loved and cared for very much. Burt still felt bad, but Shelby insisted it wasn't his fault and his husband over-reacted.
"People say things they don't mean when their fired up!" She said "I'm sorry Burt, just been a little stressful lately....with Blaine trying to hurt himself" Burt understood, he went through a horrible time when he high school girlfriend died in a car accident. Kurt saw his father and walked up to him, hugging him tightly, and told him he was going to go see Blaine.
"Alright kiddo.... see you later" Kurt smiled and grabbed his jacket, put it on, and walked out the door to his car. Sam followed and stopped when Kurt turned around.
"I meant alone Sam...." Sam looked upset, but Kurt needed to go alone, he needed to unload onto the Blaine, he missed him so much and just needed the comfort of holding his hand. He smiled weakly; this was probably him and Sam's fault anyways.
He walked into the hospital and walked up to the front desk, got a visitor's pass and walked passed Blaine's room and down the stairs into the hospital wing of Westerville Psychiatric Hospital. He opened the door and saw Blaine laying there helplessly, connected to tubes, and machines. He was covered up by a thin blanket which Kurt wondered if it kept him warm. He smiled at how peaceful he looked. Kurt looked around the room and grabbed a chair nearest the window before pulling it up close to Blaine's bed and sitting down, grabbing Blaine's cold hand and crying.
"Blaine I feel horribe, your laying here almost dead and today I ate like a pig and laughed.... I feel like it's my fault, you looked so upset when I told you I was getting married to Sam that it hurt so badly. My heart ached so badly for you because I missed you so much, I still miss you, and I want to be with you I do.....so badly but Sam was here first ya' know? you've always been the fair player and you've settled for so much Blaine.... I hate that your father never visits you and I hate that you can't hear this.... but that's probably why I'm unloading on you, because you can't hear me.... Remember when we sang that Christmas duet in the senior commons the first Christmas we spent together?" Kurt smiled and laughed. "You were in the christmas special, and you said that I was better than that girl was going to be? or when we saw R.E.N.T together? that meant the world to be Blaine and I would give anything for you to be awake right now so I could tell you all this and we could run into each other's arms again...." he laughs but doesn't notice Blaine's eye open and a small smile spread across his lips. "I love you Blaine, I just .... this is hard for m-" Kurt looked up and saw it; Blaine's eyes were shut, and the smile evidant on his face. He smiled at Blaine and debated on kissing him at that moment but refrained; he was still with Sam.
The door opened behind Kurt and he looked behind him at the person standing there, eyes red, and face a little terrfied and shocked.
"Kurt...I'm sorry....I'll go..." Brenard said, turning to leave. Kurt got up and hugged the older man from behind. He stopped dead in his tracks as the younger boy wrapped his arms around his waist.
"Stay, I was just about go.... you both need it." He smiled as Brenard turned around and hugged Kurt back. Kurt walked out and left, while Brenard walked in and sat down. He stayed silent and just looked at his son. His eyes hurt from crying which he hadn't done since Blaine was born.
"I'm sorry Blaine.... I love you...." Was all he managed to say, Blaine started crying and looked over and his dad, sitting up on the bed when he father stood up, he hugged him tightly and Blaine felt whole again, like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders.
"I'm sorry I couldn't stop our neighbor......from doing those things to you Blaine...." Blaine sighed against his father's embrace and spoke for the first time to his father since he was little.
"It's okay dad.... I forgive...you..." He sobbed out, Brenard cried harder and felt better. His son forgive him and that's all he ever needed; his son's forgiveness.
