Kurt watches over a sleeping Blaine, his hand still attached to his. He had been there all night refusing to leave his side. He hadn't slept, he hadn't eaten, he didn't want to. He looked back at the letter still on the table. Biting his lip, he lets go of Blaine's hand for the first time since he arrived and reaches for the letter. He starts to pull it out and begins to read. His hand shaking as he reads what could have been Blaine's last words to him.
"You ok there?" A voice asks behind him making Kurt jump as he throws the letter onto his lap before turning to face the voice. It was Frank the guy from the coffee shop.
"I...I" Kurt stuttered as he wipes the tears from his eyes.
"How is he?" Frank asked as he pulled up a seat and sat on the opposite side of the bed.
"His going to be fine thank god." Kurt said as he stuffed the letter into his bag. He could feel the back of his throat go dry as the other man looks at him and then Blaine.
They sit in silence for a few minutes both unsure of what to say. Kurt watched as Frank looked at Blaine, his eyes tearing up. Kurt get ups, he can't be there anymore. It's his fault Blaine's in this hospital bed and he knows Frank must be thinking that to, he has to.
"You ok?" Frank asks as Kurt picks up his jacket and bag before rushing to the door.
"I'm fine. I...I...I just need some air." Kurt utters as he leaves the room and enters the hustle and bustle of the hospital corridor. His head spinning as he walks along the white corridors looking for the nearest exit. All the sounds of the hospital feel like they've been turned up to full volume in his head, the beeps from the hospital machines echoing in his ear. He wants to turn them off but he has to keep going.
He finds a little canteen area and sits himself down at an empty table. He throws his bag on the chair next to him and let his head fall into his arms on the table. He can feel his head getting light as he lets his mind wander off into sleep.
"Are you ok?" A voice asks waking Kurt up from his deep slumber. He quickly wipes his mouth before turning to face the voice.
"Frank?" Kurt shouts a bit too loud as Frank puts two cups of coffee on the table and pulls up an empty chair.
"That's me" He laughs as he finally sits himself down. Kurt smiles back as Frank gestures for Kurt to take one of the cups.
"I'm sorry" Kurt whispers as he takes his cup and takes a mouthful of coffee.
"For what?" Frank asks as he does the same.
"I'm the reason Blaine's in this place. I shouldn't have just walked back into his life, not like this." Kurt confesses. Part of him wants Frank to get angry with him, to make him feel worse but is surprised when he is met with only a sigh.
"Listen son you're not the reason his in here. He did this to himself..."
"But I am, I lied to him and now his here because of me" Kurt cries as his eyes form tears.
"What's done is done. You can't go back and change history my boy, if we could we wouldn't learn from our mistakes. There are times in my past were I would do anything to go back and change how it went but I can't, I've learnt and come out much stronger and both of you must do the same. If you don't then regret will only eat away at you." Frank says softly as he takes out a handkerchief from his pocket and hands it to Kurt before continuing.
"I've told that to Blaine many times, that his past shouldn't determine his future but I don't think he ever believed me"
"I didn't really give him a chance to explain."Kurt sighs as he remembers back to that night 10 years ago in a park not far from Callbacks.
"I was with someone" Blaine says, his voice still sounding angelic as Kurt feels his world shatter around him. He takes a breath of air to help process the news, maybe even snap himself out of this nightmare he was clearly having. This wasn't happening, not to him, not to them.
"It was Sebastian wasn't it?" Kurt asks, it feels like the only logical answer. It had to be him, he was the only guy that sprung to mind.
"No it...it wasn't Sebastian but it doesn't...it didn't mean anything, it was just a hook up okay." Blaine replies as he tries to get everything out before Kurt can reply.
"Who was it?" Kurt demands as he tries to stay strong, to not burst into tears. Not in front of Blaine, not in the middle of New York, not with his brother and he best friend just in front of them.
"It doesn't matter who it was with Kurt. What matters is that I was by myself I needed you, I needed you around and you weren't there....and I was lonely and I'm...I'm really sorry." Blaine manages to say.
"And you don't think I've been lonely and you don't think I've had temptations but I didn't act on it because I knew what it meant, it meant something horrible and awful" Kurt says as he feels himself start to shout. For the first time in his life he couldn't look at Blaine without feeling sick in his stomach.
"I'm so sorry Kurt, I really am" Blaine begs but Kurt ignores him. After that the night pretty much became a blur in Kurt's memory.
"Kurt?" Frank asks snapping Kurt out of his daydream.
"Sorry just...I should have given him the chance to explain himself. I guess to know the facts no matter how bad it would have hurt." Kurt replies as he wraps his hands around his mug letting the heat warm his hands.
"About what? I mean if you don't mind me asking?" Frank asks. Kurt sighs before he starts to tell Frank there story, not going into too much detail but enough so he gets an idea.
Frank sighs after Kurt finishes.
"You did what you thought was right at the time." Frank replies as he takes another sip.
"Go back in there, be with him. You've been lucky, you've been given this second chance not many people get that. As long as you're both honest and you love each other you can move on." Frank says as he finishes his coffee and puts the empty mug on the table. Kurt nods as he watches Frank get up.
"If you need me then you can just pop by the shop anytime and Blaine has my number. Oh and he can come back anytime he wants....well if he wishes to." Franks finishes as he waves good bye and walks away.
Kurt finishes his own drink before rushing back to Blaine's bed side. He finds a Doctor checking Blaine before leaving the room.
"I thought you'd left me." Blaine says as he moves himself up to rest against the headboard.
"Never again." Kurt whispers as he holds Kurt's hand and kisses the back of it. He can feel the tears coming again.
"Hey what's a matter?" Blaine asks.
"I'm so sorry. I'm sorry for making you feel like this was the only solution, I'm sorry for not letting you tell me what happened 10 years ago, I'm sorry for every time I ignored your calls and made you feel lonely, I'm sorry for lying to you about Adam. Please forgive me" Kurt cries into Blaine's hand as Blaine feels himself go.
"And I'm sorry, I'm sorry for what I did. It wasn't the right thing to do, I just felt like you had gone on without me. You had that new life, new friends, new city and I bet you had guys lining up outside your door to date you but you didn't let them. I screwed things up and I did it again..." Blaine cries. Both of them in a mess huddled next to each.
"And forgive me for doing the most stupid thing I have ever done in my entire life." Blaine finishes as he pulls Kurt in closer.
They both begin to laugh at what they must look like right now. Both of them huddled together as Kurt tries to gets as close as he physically can to Blaine without knocking him off the bed. They both just stay like this for a few minutes, both wanting to just hold each other.
"Blaine?" Kurt asks as he moves a curl away from Blaine's forehead.
"Yes?"
"Your place it was kind of a mess when I found it and well umm do you want me to clean it up for you?" Kurt asks as he pulls out a key from his pocket.
"My key" Blaine says surprised.
"Yeah I had to lock your door and I found it on the floor." Kurt says as he hands it to Blaine.
"Keep it. I have a spare one."
Kurt arrives at Blaine's place and pulls the key out of his pocket and unlocks the door. He walks in carefully and switches on the lights. He sighs to himself as he closes door behind him before taking off his jacket.
"Oh Blaine" He says to as he opens his bag and takes out a bin liner. He starts to pick up the empty beer cans throwing them into the trash bag as he tries to clean up.
After picking up the last beer can he threw the bag by the door before he set his sights on lifting the sofa. Kurt walks to the front of the sofa and slowly pushes it up so it was no on its side before he manages to get it back the right way round and as he does he spots some paper on the floor. He picks it up and starts to read. 'A for Kurt' the title reads. Kurt sit's himself down and begins to read the lyrics.
