Author's Notes: Author's Chapter Notes: AN - I'm so sorry for how long it's been since I last updated. I didn't think it had been as long as it was. But here is the next chapter. x

Kurt opens his eyes, his visions blurry as he tries to blink. He finally focuses on the ceiling. His whole body hurts as he swings legs down from the bed he had been placed on.

“Blaine?” Kurt shouts as he looks around the small room hoping to see the other boy but he wasn’t there.

“Blaine?” He calls again but nothing. He sits himself up and puts his legs on the ground. He doesn’t recognise where he is. The walls are white with craving scribbled all over them.  He squints his eyes to try and get a better look.

“Kurt” A voice replies but it sounds broken. It stops halfway through its call again. Kurt knows that voice, his heard it all his life but not like this. It sounds broken and scared. It breaks his heart as the door to the cell opens and a middle aged man is hurriedly thrown in and the door is slammed behind him. His clothes are torn and the hat that Kurt always his father wear was missing.

“Dad?” Kurt calls as he goes to catch his falling father but fails in his attempt. He picks him up and guides him over to the bed he had been resting on a few minutes earlier. “Dad, what....what did they do....”  Kurt asks before cutting off. He can feel something warm on his hand. He looks down to see blood, not his blood. Kurt starts to cry and Burt finally grabs his son’s shoulders and pulls him into his arms.

“It’s going to be okay son.”  Burt whispers in to his son’s ear. “Now listen.” Burt looks around again to make sure there alone before he continues. “I have a plan but you need to listen closely.”

“Wh” Kurt is cut off as a hand is suddenly placed over his mouth to silence him.

“We don’t have much time. The longer we’re in this cell well the consequences will be unimaginable.” Burt stands up moving Kurt to sit on his own; he gets to his knees to see his boy at eye level. The way Kurt looks now reminds him of the day he told Kurt about his mothers passing.

“I have the key to this cell...”

“How...”

“I also have Blaine’s. You need to get him and run. Run away from here.”

“But where? Nowhere is safe and what about you Dad?”

“District 13”

“District 13 doesn’t exist anymore.”

“Where do you think your mother came from?” Burt almost shouts as he starts to pull Kurt in closer. “You know your mother was from another district we just never told you which one.”

Kurt pulls his hand away from his father shocked at what he just heard. He knew this, he knew how they meet. His father was fixing one of the mining machines used at work when a young beautiful woman, his mother bumped into him. She was from another district on official business, the capital let her travel but then she found Burt and gave it all up to be with him and they had Kurt.

 “Mom she she”

“Your mother was born and raised in District 13 but she gave it all up to marry me. We had to lie otherwise the capital would know about her and 13 they would have killed everyone. She knew someone back at 13 who could fix it to make it look like she lived in the districts her whole life. That’s how she was able to get to 12. Your mother was the bravest person I ever meet and now you need to go.”

Kurt wipes the tears that had started to form away from his eyes.  He grabs his father’s hand and smiles to him.

“Ok”

Burt pulls out two keys from his pocket. One for his cell and the other for Blaine’s and hands them to Kurt.

“You need to go and get Blaine. His cell isn’t to fair from here once you get him you need to leave.”

Kurt shakes his head and pulls himself up before offering a hand to his father.

“No son. I must stay.”
