Kurt opens his eyes and finds himself on the ground. He looks for the thing that took him but there’s no sign.
“Blaine?” Kurt whispers to himself hoping somehow he would find him there. Kurt looks around to find he is on the side of a cliff in what looks like to be a giant nest. He can see what looks like the whole arena from here. He blinks a few times before he can register his surroundings.
“Where am I?” He whispers as he steps closer to the edge. He looks down. Kurt feels his stomach turn, it must be at least a 100 feet drop he thinks.
He sits back down throwing his head into his hands. His body starts to shake. How is he going to get out of this? How is he going to escape from this height? How long was he out for? How is he going to get back to Blaine? Is Blaine even still alive?
Kurt can only imagine how Blaine must be feeling. He must still be stuck in the ropes. Kurt reaches for his pocket but his knife isn’t there. He must have dropped it back when the creature picked him up.
Kurt’s thoughts turn to the creature itself. Why hasn’t it killed him? That’s what normally happens in the games. It’s how they can get them to end in time. Kurt sighs before he gets himself back up. He looks behind him to see how high the cliff goes behind him. Maybe he could climb the rest of the way up and then find a way down from there? He thinks about it for a moment. It’s his only choice. If he doesn’t he will starve to death up here or the creature could come back and kill him.
Kurt walks to the wall. His experience in climbing was pretty good but that was with trees back in district 12. He looked up to see it was about 20 feet till the top. He could do this. The cliff edge is a mixture of dirt, stone and some old tree roots sticking out. Kurt looks for a place to grip his hands on. He finds two very small ledges that he could just about grip. He uses his arms and lifts himself up. He kicks a hole in the mud part to put his feet in. He smiles to himself before he grabs one of the tree roots and pulls at it to make sure it wasn’t loose. He wraps it around his arm and pulls himself up again this time placing his feet into the ledge that he used for his hands.
He carries on doing this until he reaches the top. He manages to get half his body over the edge to safely but as he does the cannon goes off making him lose his footing and falling back over the side. He manages to keep a hold of the root he was holding and starts to go over again. He calm’s himself down before he finally gets his whole body over the edge. He flips himself over and lies on his back with only his feet dangling over the edge. His breathing slows down from the heavy panting he had been doing a few seconds earlier. He opens his eyes and looks on to the arena. The sun is high in the sky, it must be midday he thinks to himself. He suddenly thinks about Blaine again, hoping that the cannon that went off weren’t for him. There must be only 4 people including Kurt left but he wasn’t sure. He lifts up his upper body up and leans on his elbows. A tear leaves his eye as he thinks about Blaine. They had been separated to many times for both their liking and he knew their luck would soon run out. Kurt raises his body up and gets to his feet, the hot sun catching his pale skin warming him slightly. He looks around for anything he could use to arm himself but only finds sticks. Nothing would be good enough. He sighs to himself as he starts to walk along the edge as fast as he can.
It’s starts to descend and Kurt pays more attention to where his putting his feet. The floor is getting rocker and one false move could end with him on it. Kurt feels his stomach start to moan and he begins to feel ill. He can’t remember the last time he’d eaten. He should be use to this having grown up with hardly any food to fill his stomach but after the meals he was getting back at the Capitol his body had gotten used to all the rich food they served up. He wants to stop, to lie down and rest but he can’t. He doesn’t feel safe. He hears a noise and starts to power walk to save the little energy he did have. But he feels something start to push on his back. He looks up to find the thing that had taken him had returned but this time it didn’t look too interested in taking him again. He looks into its eyes for a brief second. They look human. He feels its claws start to touch his back again but this time start to tear his coat then through his top and now hocking them into Kurt’s skin. He screams in pain as they get deeper. He starts to run and as he does he feels the claws start to pull ripping the bit of skin they were attached to off his back. He screams even more as he trips over a rock hitting the rocky surface below. He feels his head hit a rock and everything goes blurry but his determined to stay awake. He grabs the rock on the floor and throws it behind him missing the creature. It flies away for a second before it starts to descend to him again making a screeching sound. Kurt flips himself over and puts his arms over himself to guard his face. Kurt feels the adrenaline rushing throughout his body and gets his sight back. This time he grabs another rock and waits till the creature gets closer. He smashes the rock into the side of its face knocking it to the floor. Kurt knows he hasn’t hurt it much and it will be back up in a matter of seconds so he jumps up and starts to run again. He looks behind him as he runs to see it start to get to its feet. He looks for anywhere he could hide, a cave maybe but nothing. He runs and runs until he suddenly has to stop as he reaches the edge. The drop is a few feet down and he knew if he wanted to get down there safely he needed to take his time but he didn’t have that. He closes his eyes as he hears a roar. He has to jump and he has to jump now.
Kurt manages to just about land safely and starts to run again. He can hear it getting closer again and as he starts to head into a bunch of trees he finds himself running into male tribute knocking both of them over. They stare at each other for a few seconds before Kurt gets up.
“S-s-stay away” The other tribute stutters. Kurt starts to run leaving the other tribute behind but stops when he hears a scream. He looks behind him to see that the other tribute getting attacked by the creature. Kurt wants to help him but he can’t, he doesn’t have a weapon to start with.
“I’m so sorry” Kurt whispers and he starts to walk away, the screams echoing in his ears. The cannon goes off and Kurt walks faster, his whole body is shaking. His pretty sure his lost the creature now. He can feel the blood from where it had torn his skin off start to dry on his back. The pain is gone now but his back feels weird. He lets himself sit down for a minute to regain his strength. He can feel the emptiness in his stomach again. His head feels dizzy. He finally gets back up and starts to run. He doesn’t know where his going but he just needs to get away.
He finds himself next to a small pond of water and he knees down. He takes a bit in his hands and slowly sips it before he wash’s his face. He feels a bit more refreshed now but still hungry. He gets back up and starts to run again. The tree’s start to get thinner now, something doesn’t feel right. He finds a bag with his the number 12 in black writing sitting just in front of him. He stares at it for a second before deciding to pick it up. He opens it up to find a packet of biscuits. He opens them up so fast that he almost drops them.
Kurt feels somewhat full and sighs in relief. After checking for anything else in the bag he throws it on his back and keeps on walking. He still doesn’t know where he is. He finds a tree and starts to climb it before finding a branch to sleep on.
“Oh Blaine” He whispers to himself.
