Blaine peered into the assassin’s eyes, he thought he could see a trace of something greater within the charcoal hues, but the idea faded along with the scenery around him. The once murky, wild swamp was now blanketed in a white smokescreen of mist.
Is this the Hidden Mist Jutsu?
Blaine turned back to his squad, his eyes naturally sought out Kurt before even he knew what he was looking for. He could slightly make out a tall figure and wide blue eyes. Kurt was safe, now onto the others. His eyes darted around for Quinn, and then Tazuna. Quinn was at Tazuna’s side with a kunai laced in between her two fists. She was protecting him, and Blaine couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride in her.
He blinked and turned back to Schue. He was standing at the front of a large lake that seemed to stretch on for miles under the illusion the thick mist was putting on. Blaine blinked trying to get a closer look at the scene. He couldn’t see Nick anymore, and for a moment he wondered if he had fled. That idea quickly died when he heard a soft, yet firm and menacing voice that seemed to emanate through the whole area.
“I could kill you easily, so easily that you would pass through to the afterlife not even aware of what happened.”
Nick gave a gruff laugh, and Blaine could feel Schue tense.
“Don’t make any sound guys,” Schue was yelling now, Blaine had never seen him lose his cool before and it was frightening, “he’s a master of Silent Killing, he could kill you before you have time to react!”
“So many fatal points to attack; jugular, larynx, spine, they’re all to my beckoning,” Blaine could sense the killing intent in Nick’s voice, he could feel Nick’s blood coming to a boil even though the mist nearly blinded him. He couldn’t do anything. He was at the mercy of the assassin, and it was literally driving him crazy. Blaine could feel himself going insane, he could hear his heart rate pick up, and he could feel the cold sweat on his brow. His eyes darted around to the rest of his team. He could barely make anyone out now with the tears blurring his already diminishing vision.
He was crying
Blaine came to a sudden realization that he was indeed crying from the intensity of it all. He wanted to die, just so he could get it all over with. Blaine could feel his consciousness coming up with a solution; he reached to his weapon pouch and gripped the handle of a kunai knife. He turned the sickle in his hand and brought it to his chest.
“I’m goanna do it,” Blaine whispered to himself, realizing his breath was coming out in short airy wisps, “I can’t take this,” He was seconds from crashing the blade into his heart when he heard the shouts-
“Blaine!”
He felt a warm hand on his, “Don’t do this,” he realized the soft voice was Kurt’s, Kurt’s hand was on his, and Kurt was consoling him. He didn’t know what he did to deserve this kind of soft, loving treatment, but he was willing to get on his knees and pray that it never stop.
“I will protect you,” Blaine heard Schue say somewhere not too far from him, still hidden by the relentless mist, “All of you, this is not your fight, protect the bridge builder, that is your mission!”
Blaine wanted to throw up, he couldn’t believe how stupid he was being, he was really about to end everything over one battle. If he couldn’t take the brunt of his first mission, how was he supposed to kill his brother? Blaine nodded after swallowing the lump in his throat and letting out a few calming breaths.
“Ah, Schuester, I didn’t think I would live to see it in battle, the Sharingan.” Nick spat the word out like it was forbidden, like the mention of the Uchiha name or jutsu was a bitter on your own tongue.
Blaine turned his head to Schue, what he saw blew all of his strained sanity back out into space. Schue had the Sharingan, and it wasn’t implanted in one eye, he could activate the jutsu with no trouble at all, like he was born an Uchiha. Blaine studied the scene some more trying to make sense of it, Schue’s left eye was natural, a warm light brown resident, but in his once normal right eye was a Sharingan. It was perfect really, the red iris illuminated the mist, and the black pupil and three tomoe proved it to be in a nearly complete state.
“I keep hearing the word Sharingan, what is it?”
Blaine couldn’t help but smile to himself at Kurt’s innocence. He really wanted to wrap the boy up in a hug and lay like that forever.
“The Sharingan is a doujutsu,” I started, “Literally meaning ‘jutsu set in the eye’. It’s a technique trademark to the Uchiha clan, my clan. It can see-through and destroy any Genjutsu, Taijutsu and Ninjutsu. But it has one other ability…” Blaine faded off not really knowing what to say. He didn’t even know the secret other ability, and he wasn’t about to find out anytime soon. He was just going on his brother’s parting words.
“It can also mimic and copy virtually any jutsu, which is where it gained its nickname, ‘The Copy Wheel Eye’.” Nick interrupted.
Will met Nick’s eye, he knew he was targeting the bridge builder, and the only thing standing in his way were his cell. He knew he shouldn’t have revealed his Sharingan this early in the game, but Nick already knew he could use it, so it didn’t really matter. He also knew he would be getting some questions from Blaine. It was his clan’s trademark jutsu after all. He didn’t obtain the Sharingan by inheritance, nor did he get one transplanted. He never should have let Sebastian operate the forbidden jutsu on him all those years ago, but he did and he can’t change that. Will was just glad Lady Sue or any of the other higher-ups found out. He could be jailed, or worse tortured for siding with one of Konoha’s greatest enemies, even if it was only for a short period of time.
Will gave a sigh, it wasn’t time to be thinking about his own problems, he had a cell to protect, and he needed to end it fast, the Hidden Mist Jutsu was blinding his Sharingan somewhat, he couldn’t let this battle drag out for long.
“It’s useless.”
Nick appeared in the center of their makeshift manji formation, sword drawn.
“Blaine, Kurt, do something!” Quinn yelled and Will turned to his female student, he could see in her eyes that she was hell bent on protecting Tazuna, he smiled inwardly at Quinn showing so many signs of strength that he was positive she had no idea she possessed.
Will rushed forward to Nick after drawing out a kunai from his flak jacket. As Nick raised his beheading blade for the finishing stroke, Will stabbed the hilt into Nick’s breast, causing blood to spurt out, and then down, following the path of the assassin’s lean torso. Will was about to turn around when his Sharingan caught the blood turning into clear water. After a few moments of shock Will watched Nick’s solid body gave way into a large puddle.
A water clone.
Will came to a halt as he felt a sharp object push against his spine, he felt the blade digging into his back tearing apart all the flesh and eventually the ligaments. Scarlet blood trickled out of his mouth, staining his uniform. He collapsed into the marsh, the mist acting as his blanket, shielding him from any more harm.
A shrill scream broke the silence.
He turned to Quinn and followed her eye; they landed on a dead Schue Sensei, lying in a puddle of water. Everything happened to fast for Kurt to comprehend. The swamp smelled of metallic blood, and he had a pounding headache. He never would have guessed he would feel this much just by witnessing the battle. He couldn’t even think what would happen if he actually had to fight.
“It’s over.”
Nick pulled his blade up over his head again; attempting to slice Kurt in half. He shuddered at the thought. Kurt clamped his eyes shut; he hoped Nick would kill him swiftly. Fast and painless is what he wanted. He couldn’t begin to imagine what would happen if the assassin made it slow. Kurt decided he would kill himself if it came to that. He never had to find out though because a warm voice filtered into the scene.
“Is it?”
Kurt’s head jerked towards the sound; he saw his Sensei behind Nick with a kunai near his face. He slit open Nick’s neck like it was nothing, but Kurt noticed the bright red scar gave way into more water first, then eventually Nick’s whole body, and joined the already drying puddles.
He must have copied Nick’s jutsu, Kurt reasoned. His suspicions were confirmed as another Nick spoke, his murderous voice cutting through the tension like his giant beheading blade.
“You copied me, like a monkey.”
Schue Sensei turned around at blinding fast speed, but couldn’t do much with Nick’s firm grip on his bicep.
“Let’s make a change of scenery,” Nick lifted Will off the ground and flung him into the lake; he collided with the water sending waves over towards the muddy bank.
“This isn’t normal water,” He thought aloud, “It’s dense and heavy.”
“Water Prison Jutsu.”
Will tried to run, but the water was just so heavy. A sphere of bright blue water infused with chakra formed into a sphere and collided with Will. He struggled against the dense liquid, but to no avail, he was trapped.
“There’s no point in struggling,” Nick said as he appeared silently beside Will, sticking one hand in the Water Prison to keep the jutsu in effect, “The water’s denser than steel.”
Will watched the water in front of him take the shape and form of Nick.
“Run, you can’t take him! Take the bridge builder and run!”
Will screamed with all his might but the Genin weren’t budging.
“No,” Kurt stepped up from his spot by Tazuna, “We came all this way were not backing down without a fight.”
“And more importantly, were not leaving you Mr. Schue.” Quinn said taking her spot in front of Tazuna.
Kurt watched Blaine walk up beside him, Blaine grabbed his hand suddenly, and Kurt gasped.
“I have a plan,” Blaine said with a small smile, “and I need your help.”
Kurt’s head was pounding, between the horror of the situation and Blaine’s warm hand in his, he couldn’t think. But this was no time to worry about how well Blaine’s hand felt in his, and how warm it was, and how it was making Kurt’s heart race even faster than it already was.
“I trust you,” Kurt squeezed Blaine’s hand, and too his relief he squeezed back.
