The preppy boarding school was everything Kurt could’ve imagined and more. The large hallways and intricate design fascinated him. The manor was something he would’ve imagined British royalty lived, the spiral staircases and caramel colored floors were elegant, and they reflected Kurt to a “T”. It wasn’t his decision to come board at Dalton, but what choice did he have really? McKinley was hell on earth, the generic public school could never live up to Kurt’s standards, and it was greatly lacking in the appeal category. The only thing that could’ve influenced Kurt’s decision to transfer was the Glee club. The members of the New Directions Glee club weren’t perfect, far from it actually, but they brightened up Kurt’s dark world. Kurt loved singing, and he took great pride in his range, he could sing Defying Gravity with ease, hitting every note and sharp without struggle. He wondered if Dalton had a Glee club. He wondered if a school of all boys would accept him anyway. Kurt wasn’t the most, masculine person there was, if he was being honest he would probably fit in better at an all-girls school, but of course that wasn’t an option.
“Kurt!”
His dad’s husky voice broke him out of his reverie; he forgot he was in the middle of filling out transfer forms. He blinked a few times to come back to reality, and turned to his father.
“Sorry dad, just thinking.”
The headmaster looked at him with an understanding smile. She wasn’t scary or cold like Kurt thought she would be; she had warm green eyes and flowing strawberry blonde hair. The classy red pencil skirt and blue blouse suited her. Kurt had to give her props for wearing clothes that still fit into the Dalton dress code. He was also surprised at how young she was. She looked to be in her late 20’s, maybe early thirties. The headmaster had read up on Kurt’s file, it troubled the counter tenor that a stranger knew of all of his hardships from the past two years at McKinley, but he had no say in the matter, he had to trust her.
“I know you’ve gone through some tough times at your old school Kurt,” a Tough time wasn’t the half of it. The headmaster placed a hand on his, he noticed her nails were a bright spring green and he admired her choice of color, “Dalton has a zero-tolerance bullying policy, and I’m certain all the students will accept you.”
“Thank you…” His father started but realized he didn’t have the young woman’s name.
“Dianne,” she filled in for Burt, “but Kurt can call me Ms. Stone.”
“Thank you Ms. Stone, I’m kind-of loving it here already.” He glanced around her office, the large oak desk and burgundy carpeting had a charm to it. The whole school had a charm to it, and Kurt was sure he’d be very distracted here.
“I’m glad to hear that, here’s your room number and key, I have to warn you about your roommate though…”
The headmaster trailed off and rubbed her temples, Kurt suddenly had a horrible thought that his roommate to be was some raging homophobe or psychiatric patient. But his worries were quickly doused.
“He’s very...” Kurt noticed Ms. Stone was rooting around for a word, “special.”
“Okay…” Kurt raised an eyebrow. He didn’t know what the woman was getting at.
“You’ll see when you get there, enjoy your stay anyway.” The headmaster went back to writing paperwork, as Kurt and Burt stood. She gave on last reassuring smile as they left the room, Kurt was buzzing with nerves and he looked at Burt for reassurance, he noticed that his father was slightly paler than when they entered the office.
“Dad, what’s wrong?” He panicked a little, after his father almost died of a heart attack he couldn’t stay at this school for whole year worrying about his state of health, he wouldn’t do it, he’d be homeschooled before he left his dad on his own.
“I’m just sad Kurt, you’ve been through a lot and I’m always surprised at how strong you are through everything, I just can’t believe I’m leaving you on your own.” He gave a hesitant laugh, “I guess it’s preparing me for college, right bud?”
Kurt nodded and took his father into a hug, “I’ll visit as much as I can, I promise.”
Burt nodded and squeezed his son harder, “I know you will, just… Call me if anything comes up.”
“I promise.”
After exchanging a few more hugs, Burt let go of Kurt and the elder Hummel left for his car. Kurt felt like crying but he knew he needed to be strong, for his father and himself. He couldn’t believe he really left everything behind, of course he knew the bullying had spiraled out of control when- No. He couldn’t think of that. Not yet, it left him falling into a dark abyss before, he couldn’t let that happen to him now. With some mental preparation he grabbed his bags and trudged up the grand staircase to his room, he didn’t know what to expect, but then again, Kurt never did.

“Blaine, where are you going?”
The younger prefect turned finished packing his messenger bag and smiled.
“I have to meet a new student, show him around you know?”
Wes raised an eyebrow, “Why you? I mean I know you’re perfect and proper and all but I could’ve done it or maybe David…” The senior trailed off looking towards the exit. Blaine had a tendency to get over his head; he was just trying to be a reassuring friend.
“I just wanted to get some extra credits,” Blaine started cutting his friend off, “being a role model goes a long way in this school.”
“Ah, Blaine your teacher’s pet is showing.”
The raven haired boy rolled his eyes and walked out of the common room; He stuffed his hands in his blazer pocket and pulled out a slip of paper. It had the boy’s dorm number and hall scribbled across it in Ms. Stone’s elegant handwriting. The clacking of his shoes echoed through the marble hallways of Dalton as he made his journey to the west wing. He walked down the rows of doors until he came across the right one. He stuffed the slip of paper back into his pocket and rubbed his hands together before knocking on the wooden door. He rocked back on his toes while he waited, chewing tentatively on his lip. He blinked when he heard the locks of the door’s gears grinding and took a small step back. The door opened and Blaine’s breath hitched when he saw the boy.
He had perfectly styled chestnut hair, and fair skin. The boy’s skin reminded him of Snow White’s; fair and envied by everybody in the kingdom. He was tall; he had a good 2 inches on Blaine, and long legs. His lips were the most adorable shade of pink and Blaine considered changing his favorite color. He realized he was probably staring, so he opened his mouth to introduce himself. Despite his intentions of talking, his mind was sent into a melted state when he took in the boy’s eyes. They were electric, the most striking shade of blue he’d ever seen, he focused in on the hue and noticed that there were flecks of green, and yellow speckled across the irises. He couldn’t think, he couldn’t move, all he wanted to do was stare at this fragile being like it was a work of art. He is, Blaine realized, a piece of art that far surpassed Michelangelo and Raphael.
“Hello, anyone there?”
The boy’s voice was musical and light, it was like he spoke a lullaby, and Blaine couldn’t help smiling at the sound.
“Hi,” Blaine cringed when he heard how breathy his voice sounded. He tried to clear his mind before he spoke again; one look at this boy was all it took for Blaine to be reduced to a prepubescent girl.
The boy must’ve not noticed how flustered Blaine was and continued, “I’m Kurt, did you need something?”
The boy now known as Kurt stuck out a hand, and Blaine stared at it. Is it possible for someone to have perfect hands? Surely not, but there it was, extending itself for Blaine, and only Blaine.
Blaine took the boy’s hand, “Hi Kurt,” he loved the way the boy’s name sounded on his tongue. He’d never though much of the name, but now he could definitely see him doodling it all over his notebooks. “I’m Blaine; I’m here to show you around Dalton.”
Blaine’s stomach did a somersault when Kurt gave him a smile, it was reserved but Blaine could see how heartfelt it was and that was enough the keep him happy for the rest of the day.
“That’s great, let me just get my key,” Kurt disappeared into the dorm room, and Blaine immediately missed him. This was ridiculous, Blaine knew it, but he still couldn’t help it. He was so glad he took this job, he couldn’t think about if someone else had the chance to accompany the beautiful boy. He felt a small pang of jealousy at the fictitious person, he couldn’t believe how far Blaine had already fallen, and it hadn’t even been 10 minutes.

“Sebastian,” Blaine moved his knee away from the older boy’s touch. He was getting tired of his pathetic attempts to sleep with him. Blaine had more pride than that, he wasn’t going to be another one of the boy’s one night stands like most of the students at Dalton.
“Oh c’mon,” The green eyed boy crooned, “you need to stop walking with a stick up your butt.” Blaine watched Sebastian look off into space, he gave a devilish smile and continued, “Or you can let me take it out for you.”
Blaine turned beet red as he felt warmth flood his face, “Sebastian!”
“What?” The older boy feigned innocence, “Tell me you don’t like the idea.”
“I don’t” He said it to reassure himself more than Sebastian. He was not that kind of person, if he was going to do anything of… That nature it would be with someone he loved, finding their way together.
“Whatever.” Sebastian set back in his plush chair with a scowl and Blaine almost smiled at the childish gesture.
The Dalton cafeteria was huge, it had many spacious tables and large windows that let large amounts of sunlight filter through during the day. Decorating the windows were navy blue grand drapes, they were expensive, you could tell by the feel of the fabric. Blaine had just gotten his lunch, a meal complete with a hamburger, fries, and a medium sprite. He was enjoying himself waiting for Wes or David to show up when Sebastian sauntered in. Ever since his sophomore year Sebastian had been trying to get into his pants, and yes, once a younger Blaine would have thought the older guy rebellious attitude was intriguing, hot even. But now a year later he still couldn’t get Sebastian to leave him alone.
Sebastian’s fingers trailed up Blaine’s ribs gaining a shudder from the younger boy and Sebastian smiled, “Me and you both know you want this, now why don’t you just take it?”
Blaine blinked a few times to calm his thudding heart, and piled his tray. He could always eat in the library. As soon as the junior prefect moved to get up, a certain blue eyed angel made his way over to them.
“Hi,” Kurt dropped his messenger bag to the ground with a thud, and set his tray on the table in front of Blaine’s. If Blaine was going to guess what kind of food Kurt ate, he would’ve guessed this. There was a salad of some sort drizzled with honey and dark dressing. For a drink he had a glass of water with a cherry resting on the top. Just as Kurt opened a tub of red grapes, Blaine realized he was staring. Again.
“What is there something on my face?” The taller boy wiped his hands hastily and proceeded to tend to his face in a panicky manner.
“No, no, your face is perfect,” Blaine reassured laying a hand atop of Kurt’s. He smiled at the boy and realized it was not returned and he quickly wised up. “I mean, there’s nothing on it.” He removed his hand like it was on fire, let out a breath and looked at the very interesting students that were receiving their lunches.
“Ahem.” He heard Sebastian give a frustrated grunt.
“What?” Blaine’s voice came out sharper than he intended but Sebastian was ruining his and Kurt’s moment. Well it was a moment to Blaine. To Kurt it might just be an awkward situation.
“Oh is this your boyfriend?” Kurt asked nonchalantly taking a bite of salad.
“No!” Blaine stood up gripping the table; he received some glances from the other students and sat back down slowly. “I mean, no he’s not.”
Kurt’s eyes went wide. “Oh, I’m so sorry, I should have asked if you were gay, and even if you were it wasn’t any of my business, you’re just the first guy that’s been seemingly nice to me and I thought it was too good to be true and-“
“Kurt.” As cute as it was Blaine had to cut off Kurt’s rambling, “I am gay, but Sebastian’s not my boyfriend, he’s barely a friend.” He muttered the last part under his breath to himself; he wanted nothing more than the seductive boy to leave the table. He wanted to talk to Kurt alone.
Kurt nodded and resumed eating his salad. The way his jaw worked on chewing the food sent Blaine’s mind reeling. He wondered what else the perfect jaw could do. He let his eyes trail up to Kurt’s lips. They looked like as soft as a cloud. Blaine had to physically restrain himself from touching them.
“Hey, Blaine,” Kurt snapped the lid onto his grapes and took his napkin out of his lap and placed it tentatively on the table.
“Yes?” Blaine answered swiftly; he wasn’t going to let Sebastian ruin the moment.
“I don’t really know my way around Dalton, and it’s Friday, I was wondering if you could show me around today? I mean if you’re not busy, I’m just kind of alone.”
Blaine gave Kurt a reassuring smile and the taller boy shrugged.
“Of course I would, do you want to go now?”
Kurt’s head snapped up, “now? I mean I’m sure you have classes, I wouldn’t want to make you late.”
Blaine shook his head, “I was already signed up to show the new kid around, my whole day is free.”
Kurt gave Blaine a smile that warmed him to the bottom of his heart. He reached across the table and took the prefect’s hands.
“Thank you so much, I can’t believe you’re doing this for me.”
I would do anything for you. Blaine said that part in his head, instead he nodded and picked up his and Kurt’s tray to throw away. After coming back from the trashcan he extended his elbow.
“Shall we?”
Kurt blushed and fit his arm through Blaine’s. He smiled inwardly that he could gain that reaction from Kurt, he liked the small shade of pink he turned, and he would definitely be doing that more often.

“And this is the Warbler commons.”
Blaine took Kurt to the practice room. He loved being in the Warbler’s so it would only make sense to save the best for last.
“Warbler?” Kurt turned towards Blaine, quirking his eyebrow.
“Ah, yes, the Warblers are like Dalton’s Glee club, we’re like rock stars.”
Blaine noticed the gleam in Kurt’s eye as he made his way towards the corner of the room. The fair boy ran his fingers across the piano, and sat down.
“I haven’t sung in so long,” Blaine knew Kurt was technically thinking out loud, he could understand the effect music has on you, but that didn’t stop him from acknowledging the boy.
“I could get you into the Warblers if you really want to.”
By this time Blaine was sitting on a loveseat directly in front of Kurt. He wanted the boy to look at him, he’s usually staring off into space or at the grandeur of Dalton Academy. He also got an excuse to look directly at him. There were so many things to look at, his hair, his skin, and his legs. But even so all of these features paled in comparison to his eyes. The blue enchanted and hypnotized Blaine, it was all he could do to not stare at the boy the every time he saw him.
“Oh no, I couldn’t ask you to do that for me.”
Kurt was still staring at the jet black piano. The instrument was a gift from one of the Warblers’ sponsors. It was the thing all the boys treasured. Blaine has many good memories of this piano. If he was being honest the Warblers were his life, it’s only natural to want Kurt to be in it. He would also get to spend more time with him which was always a plus.
“Nonsense, I’ll ask first thing tomorrow afternoon.”
Kurt started crying, not just a few sweet tears either, full out bawling. Kurt was beautiful but while crying he escalated into something more, like a work of art from a horror film. It was so horrifically beautiful that Blaine was sure Kurt transcended this earth.
“Kurt? Kurt what’s wrong?”
Kurt wiped his hands on his sleeves, “Why are you being so nice to me?”
He realized it was an actual question, “why wouldn’t I be?”
Before Kurt could open his mouth to answer Thad came running through the door and Blaine cursed the unfortunate timing of the senior Warbler.
“Do you need something, Thad?” Blaine tried to summon all the patience he could muster but he was faltering.
Thad giggled and pulled a bunch of sheet music out of his pocket, “Look it, I wrote a song, I thought we could sing it for Regionals!”
Blaine gave a sigh, Thad was so confusing, and none of the Warblers ever knew what was going through his head.
“Thad we’ve been through this, we can’t sing original songs for Regionals.”
Blaine shook his head anyway and looked through the troubled boy’s music.
“Thad… This song is about a pink cow.”
Thad bit his lip and smiled, “He overcomes the diversity and racism of the black and white cow’s and saves the whole farm! The judges will love it!”
Blaine rubbed his temples and handed the sheet music back.
“I appreciate your work, but I don’t think this will fly with the judges.”
Thad looked around the room and frowned when he realized what Blaine was saying.
“Phooey.”
“Why don’t you show Wes and David?”
Thad’s face lit up with a smile that could’ve outshone any sun.
“Thanks Blaine!” He kissed the prefect on the cheek and skipped out the door.
Blaine shut his eyes so he could get a grasp on reality. He heard laughing and turned around to Kurt.
“What’s so funny?” Blaine tried to hide a smile but found out he couldn’t while in the presence of this boy.
“A pink cow?” Kurt tried to hide his laughing, “I can’t believe you have to deal with that.”
Blaine gave a smug smile as he pulled the slip of paper that had Kurt’s room number on it out of his pocket.
“Funny, because If this is your room number,” Blaine waved around the small piece of parchment, “Then he’s your new roommate.”
