Kurt fell back on his bed. It was good to be home. Almost. Sighing, Kurt knew what had to be done. He pulled himself back up and slipped on the shoes he had just kicked off.
"Santana, I need you to watch Toronto for me." He requested of the girl still unpacking.
"Why? Where are you going?" She peered at Kurt, with an interrogating manner.
He shifted under her gaze, "Out. I just-"
"Wait, daddy, you're leaving?" The small boy asked, padding across the room to cling to his father's leg.
"Just for a little while. I have to meet with someone from work, I won't be long." He brushed back Toronto's bangs as the round face peered up at him.
"Who?"
"Mr. Percy, you remember him right?" The boy nodded. And he wasn't lying to his son. Percy worked Vouge on the floor above Kurt.
Eyebrow arched, Santana intervened, "you're meeting with Percy?" Kurt slowly nodded.
"Yes, why?"
She shrugged, "see you soon." Then she turned to the boy, "what do you say we make some smoothies and then we can color?"
"Okay!" The boy nodded eagerly. He gave Kurt's leg one last squeeze, "bye, daddy!" Before racing his aunt to the kitchen.
Kurt stood in the summer heat on the steps to a small town house. Nervously, he drummed his fingers on the intricate black railing, waiting for the door to open.
First he heard the click of the lock, before the white swung open to reveal a woman. Kurt knew her, with her hip length dark hair and blue eyes. She was beautiful and slim, still speaking with the hint of an Arabian accent.
"Hello," she smiled warmly, flashing Kurt a perfect set of white teeth. "You're...Mr.."
"Hummel." Kurt reminded her, with a nodded.
"Right, Hummel. One of these days I'll remember."
"I'll make it easier on you, just call me Kurt." He extended his hand, reintroducing himself to someone he had met many times before.
"Okay, Kurt. I can remember that. Call me Anali, then. We've know each other long enough and Mrs. Dutton is far too formal, now." She laughs lightly, pushing some of the long strands over her shoulder. "Well, Kurt, please come in! Stand out there to long, you might melt."
He chuckled, "thank you. You have a lovely home."
"You always say that." She waved away the kind words.
"And I'll keep saying it, until its no longer true.
Anali smiled, "so, what brings you here? Are here for Percy?"
"Yes, he's not expecting me but.." Kurt trailed off.
"I'll go fetch him. But, please make yourself at home." She smiled, gesturing to the couch. Kurt nodded his thanks as she disappeared down the hall.
Uncomfortable with being left alone in the house, Kurt made his way to the couch. He sat, but didn't relax. His back stayed straight as he sat up on the edge, hands resting on his knees.
Looking around the room, Kurt took in the house. One wall was lined with windows and curtains red to match the couch. Most of them were closed, but one was parted slightly. Just enough for Kurt to see the small terrace out back. It had a black metal table and matching chairs.
On the other wall, a large black screen stared back at Kurt. It's stare was matched by smiling faces in frames; Anali and Percy, Percy and his family, Anali and her family. With the pictures was paintings and pottery and trinkets from places far from New York. Looking in this house, everything would seem so right. They would seem so right and happy, even though Kurt knew that was a lie.
"Hi, Kurt." The tall man appeared from the hall. He had red hair and a copious amount of freckles, with enchanting green eyes. He was older than Kurt, but only by a few years.
"Percy." The younger man's face light up at the sight. He rose from the couch and approached him, but he couldn't touch. Not inside, not with Percy's wife there. "Can we talk?"
The older man nodded and lead Kurt to the terrace he had seen through the window. The men spent many days out there simply talking when the weather would allow. On other days, there was a small restaurant in Chinatown where they spent most of their time. Anali being a vegetarian ment they're safe there.
"What's on your mind?" Kurt had been starring across to the neighboring yard, watching a dog chase his tail until he was dizzy. Across from him Percy sat, waiting.
Snapped out of his trance, Kurt had infinite words, but no thoughts to fathom them into.
"Kurt, is everything alright?" Percy reached his hand out and put it on Kurt's.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I actually just got back from my brother's wedding."
"Ah, Mazel Tov."
"Right, uh," Kurt cleared his throat. "And Blaine was there."
"Who?" Kurt opened his mouth to explain, right as Anali stepped through the door. Immediately, the two boys' hands flew apart.
"I thought you boys might like some lemonade." She smiled, placing a glass before each of them. She hadn't noticed their hands.
"Thank you, love." Percy said. Kurt wished he would say that to him. To be his love, to be loved.
"Of course. Now, I'm going to run out to the store, then pick up something for dinner. Do you need anything?" She checked.
"Just toothpaste." He said.
"Okay, I'll be back in an hour." She kissed Percy's forehead. "It's great seeing you, Kurt." She squeezed his shoulder on her way back inside.
The two men waited for the door to shut and the sound of the car igniting, before speaking again.
"Who is Blaine?" Percy again asked.
"Just an ex." Kurt reassured someone, he was only imagining was concerned. "And I hooked up with him at the reception."
"Kurt, why are you telling me this?"
"I thought it was fair that you knew."
"Baby," Percy chuckled. "You know we aren't exclusive, right? You're allowed to sleep with whoever you want." He spoke lightly, holding Kurt's hand as he spoke.
"We could be exclusive." Kurt said, hopefully.
"No, Kurt. At least not now."
"Why not?"
"Because," he squatted in front of Kurt, he hands on the younger man's knees. "I'm still married! But, just because we aren't exclusive, doesn't mean we can't hang out still."
"I know, but are there other guys, you know like me? That you hang out with?" Kurt was timid about the question.
"I do have friends. If you mean, am I sleeping with them? No. You're the only one." He slide his hands up the inside of Kurt's thigh. Kurt squirmed beneath the touch.
"Not out here, people will see us." He whined.
"Should we take inside? We've got about 50 minutes, until my wife is back."
"Always." Kurt replied, leaving the terrace to enter the town house. Kurt didn't know where this would go with Percy in the future. But then and there, he knew exactly what he was doing.
