Blaine Anderson stepped out of JFK terminal and bit his lip as the brisk December wind hit him like a slap in the face. When his brother Cooper had warned him that winter in New York was very different from Winter in Westerville, Ohio he didn't think that the difference would be so drastic. He pulled his grey cardigan tighter against his body, hoping to keep in what little warmth he had. He scanned the small crowd of cars before him in search of his brother's car. To his great relief he caught sight of a familiar silver Audi pulling up to the front of the terminal a few minutes later. Blaine's breath caught in his throat as he caught sight of the exquisite creature he'd been dying to see.
Kurt Hummel stepped out of the silver Audi, looking as gorgeous as Blaine had remembered him. His smooth pale skin gleamed against the gentle early winter snowfall behind. His perfect pink lips were puckered together as he buried his face in his patterned scarf, his cheeks tinted a rosy color from the cold. His crystal blue eyes suddenly fixed on Blaine and his face lit up, to Blaine's surprise. Kurt ran as fast as he could without slipping on the icy ground of the terminal towards Blaine and threw his petite arms around him when he finally reached him.
"It's so great to see you again, Blaine!" he said with a laugh, giving Blaine a wide, toothy smile.
"It's great to see you too. You look…great," Blaine half mumbled in reply, secretly hoping he hadn't heard the last part.
Unfortunately, he did. Kurt giggled airily and whacked Blaine with the end of his scarf jokingly.
"Ugh, you're so sweet you're going to give me a cavity."
Before blaine could think of a witty reply he showed up and snaked his arm around Kurt's waist. Cooper. Perfect Cooper. Kurt's perfect actor fiancé. Blaine's perfect older brother.
"B, I thought I told you to dress warmly?" He smiled, his teeth were blindingly white, Blaine thought to himself.
"You did, but you were right…again." Blaine struggled to hide the bitterness in his tone, which must've worked because Cooper released his hold on Kurt to throw one arm around Blaine's shoulders and take one of his many bags with the other.
"I guess this means we're going to have Kurt take you shopping for some New York winter appropriate clothes," Cooper said with a wink towards his fiancé.
Kurt gave Blaine a small smile before offering to help him carry the rest of his bags to the car. He politely declined the offer, gathered up the rest of his bags, and walked towards the car. A few minutes later Blaine was squished into the backseat alongside his bags with Cooper and Kurt in the front, driving towards their trendy apartment in Tribeca. Blaine shifted uncomfortably as his guitar case nudged painfully into his side.
"Hey, thanks again for letting me stay with you guys. I promise I'll be the best roommate ever, you guys won't even know I'm there."
Kurt shifted in his seat so he could face Blaine.
"It's no problem at all, Blaine. Besides, what kind of people would we be if we didn't let you stay with us so you could go to NYU for that music program you worked so hard to get into?" he said with a smile, patting Blaine on the knee.
A shiver ran up his spine from the sudden contact and he quickly looked out the car window, hoping to conceal the blush that had formed on his cheeks.
"T-thanks, but it's not that great, I just got lucky. But, really, I don't want to be a burden to you guys. I mean, I know how hectic both of your schedules are and I know you guys don't want to-."
"Trust me, B, as long as you keep your end of the bargain you won;t be a burden," interrupted Cooper from the drivers seat.
Blaine and Cooper had made an agreement on the conditions of Blaine's stay a month earlier. Blaine had been working hard for weeks on improving his grades and vocal skills so he could be accepted into a new music program his college, the Westerville Conservatory of Music, to ten of the most talented students studying musical theatre. The ten students that were accepted would spent seven months studying at NYU Tisch with some of the greatest vocal teachers and choreographers in the state and each student would have several opportunities to enroll in the amazing internships available in New York. Blaine had salivated just reading the flyer for the program. Thus he worked for weeks and weeks on his audition piece, Maria from West Side Story. To his displeasure eighteen out of the other hundred and four students auditioning for the program sang the exact same song. However, luck was on his side and his hard work had paid off.
He'd been floating on cloud nine after he'd found out that he'd been accepted into the program, until he realized there was a major hole in his fantasy. There was no way he could afford the boarding fee for NYU. His parents had recently invested most of their extra money in a business deal with a family friend, thus they couldn't lend him the money. The money he'd been saving from his job at a local bookstore couldn't cover even a quarter of the boarding fee. Finally Blaine decided to call his brother Cooper, who he hadn't seen in almost a year, with good reason. He'd only wanted to ask his wealthy brother for a loan, but instead found himself agreeing to live with Cooper and his fiancé, Kurt, in their New York apartment. Cooper offered to let Blaine stay in their spare bedroom for free until the program ended in June, on the one condition that he always cook dinner. Blaine reluctantly agreed. It wasn't that he didn't approve of Cooper's condition, which actually found more than fair, it was the thought of having to live with Cooper and Kurt that he was not too fond of. Not only would he feel like a third wheel constantly, he would have to be living in the same apartment of the person he was completely and madly in love with. Kurt Hummel.
Blaine could still remember the first time he laid eyes on Kurt on his first day of freshman at William McKinley high school. Kurt had been standing by his locker, clad in his Cheerios uniform, laughing and chatting animatedly with a group of his friends. He was breathtaking. Blaine had watched him from afar for the rest of the year. He watched him cheer flawlessly from the bleachers of the school's football stadium and watched from the back of the choir room as he sang his favorite show tunes every week in Glee Club. Blaine felt like he was stuck in a Taylor Swift song. He was the loner freshman with an insanely huge crush on the popular senior. How original, he thought to himself. However, he had always hoped by some miracle that he would get his happy Taylor Swift ending, but the ending he got was one he never expected.
During Blaine's senior year the Anderson family held their annual family reunion in New York. Usually Cooper didn't go to the family reunions, as he was usually off shooting a new episode for the popular TV Show, Joy, that had catapulted him to popularity and wealth; but, since the reunion was in New York, he decided to stop by for an hour or two. He also decided to bring the mysterious boyfriend he was always gushing to Blaine and his parents about. Blaine's jaw nearly dropped to the floor when Cooper arrived at the reunion hand in hand with none other than Kurt Hummel. To make matters worse, Blaine thought he was going to spontaneously combust when Cooper got down on one knee and proposed to Kurt in front of the entire Anderson family.
Blaine was snapped out of his reminiscing down painful memory lane when he noticed Kurt had moved his hand to rest on Cooper's thigh before leaning over and pressing a gentle kiss to Cooper's cheek. Blaine felt his stomach churning as he pouted and turned to bury his face in the bag next to him. This was going to be a very long seven months.
