"B-Blaine," he finally managed to stutter out.
"Well hello Blaine, how are you today?" Kurt asked him. Blaine felt more than a little star struck.
"I'm good, excellent in fact, how are you?" he said, sounding far too over-excited for his liking but unable to do anything about it.
"Excellent as well, thank you Blaine." Kurt replied, still smiling at him.
"Kurt, I just have to tell you how much of an honour it is to meet you. You've inspired me so much and I have to thank you for giving me the confidence to continue doing what I love. Which is singing, by the way. I love to sing. I actually started writing my own music recently, and I hope one day I can be half as successful as you are." Blaine knew Kurt had probably heard rambling fans like him hundreds of times before, but he had to tell him regardless.
"That's so sweet of you! I'm always so glad when people tell me stories like that; it reassures me that I'm doing something worthwhile." Kurt said, winking as the smile on his face grew wider. He took the album that the security guard had slid across the table towards him, and looked back up at Blaine.
"And should I make this out to you?"
Blaine was so, so tempted to say yes, but being the gentleman and frankly awesome best friend that he was, he couldn't bring himself to.
"Um, I'd love you to, but could you actually write a message for my best friend, Tina? It's just that we're both such massive fans of yours and she couldn't make it today because she's working and-" Kurt held up a hand to stop him.
"How about I sign this one to you, and then another one for Tina?" he asked. Blaine gaped at him, but nodded frantically.
"Actually, sir, we only have enough albums for one each. No exceptions." the shop attendant cut in. She flushed red when Kurt sent her a small glare, but didn't back down.
Kurt sighed.
"Okay, well I'm sorry, but it looks like I'll only be able to give you one. So do you want it to you or Tina? Unless, sorry if this seems a bit forward, but you seem like a nice guy and I'd love to help you out. Would you like to give me your email address so I can get a message to Tina as well? Of course, you don't have to, but if you'd like then I'm sure I can figure something out, and then you can have your album and everybody wins!" Kurt was smiling, but it looked almost...nervous?
Blaine was sure that he must be dreaming, because there was no way that Kurt Hummel had just asked for his email address. But even if it was a dream, he decided to take advantage of it, and immediately nodded his head. Again.
Kurt just laughed, and grabbed a piece of paper from the desk.
"Okay, just write it down there then, and I'll email you when I get time and we'll sort something out. Now, I should sign this one for you..." he leant over the album lying on his desk and scribbled out a message, ending with a loopy signature, "and there you go!"
"Thank you, so much!" Blaine almost kind of yelled in Kurt's face. He took the CD that was being handed to him and turned to leave, but before he could he heard someone clearing their throat. He spun around and saw the shop assistant holding out his camera to him. He took it quickly, not wanting to draw any more attention than he was sure he already had.
"Wait, Blaine!" he heard Kurt call out, "I didn't see you had a camera! We never took a picture, get back over here!"
Blaine was tempted to decline and run away, sure he'd already used up more than his fair share of Kurt's time, but he couldn't exactly say no to Kurt Hummel. He walked back over to the table and stood next to Kurt, smiling at the camera as quickly as he could. The flash blinded him slightly, but he didn't hesitate to thank Kurt profusely before sprinting out the store, flushing brightly.
Blaine arrived home sooner than he'd expected, having expected to have to wait longer at the music store, consequently getting back nearly a whole hour before Tina was due to finish work. He sighed, wondering what to do with himself. Everything felt so boring and inconsequential after the afternoon he'd had.
He wondered around their apartment aimlessly for a couple of minutes before realising that he'd never actually looked at the message Kurt had written out for him, having still been riding on the high of meeting the man. He felt around in his bag for the album, sighing in relief as his fingers closed around the plastic casing. He pulled it out quickly and plopped down on the couch. On the front of the CD case read the words:
Dear Blaine,
Thanks so much for telling me your story, I promise I remember and treasure every single one. It was such a pleasure speaking to you, and I hope you have as much luck and success in the industry as I did. You deserve it!
Loads of love, Kurt :)
The smiley face was slightly smudged, and when Blaine looked at his hand he saw a small patch of black on his thumb. Underneath the message was Kurt's signature, with a small heart in the 'e' of Hummel.
When he finished reading, Blaine was slightly breathless. He knew Kurt probably said it to everyone, but Blaine couldn't see past the 'loads of love' that was written on his album. If there was one thing he was certain of, he would remember this entire day forever. At that thought he remembered the pictures the shop assistant had taken of him and Kurt before he'd run out the shop.
Blaine hopped up, grabbing his camera and heading over to the computer. He switched it on and dropped himself into the desk chair, waiting for it to clunk and whir to life. He and Tina really needed to look into replacing this thing...
The screen eventually lit up and Blaine attached the camera to the computer with the slightly frayed cable. The pictures appeared on the screen and Blaine scrolled through them, trying to find the ones from that day. On the way he saw some from last Christmas, a couple of silly ones him and Tina had taken, and one day where Tina had obviously taken the camera out with her and Mike. He paused for a moment on a sweet one of the couple cuddling in the park. He'd have to print that one out for Tina at some point.
After a minute he found what he was looking for, double clicking on the first one so it filled the screen. The shop attendant had obviously taken a few while Blaine was talking to Kurt, because there were five or so of Blaine looking flustered and awkward in front of the table while Kurt grinned up at him from his seat.
Blaine flicked slowly through them before stopping at one that caught his eye. It was the picture of him and Kurt, and Kurt looked flawless. Obviously he did all the time, but there was something about the way his hair looked, the way his head was tilted slightly to the side, the way his eyes were sparkling with the flash reflected in them, the way he was smiling just enough to show off the edges of his teeth...
Blaine jumped when he heard the door slam shut, Tina calling out to see if he was home yet.
"I'm at the computer," he replied, and then Tina was there, sitting on the arm of the squishy chair in the corner.
"Tell me everything." she demanded, not even bothering with a hello.
Blaine laughed, but didn't hesitate to fill her in on his afternoon, leaving out no details.
"Wait a second, he asked for your email address?" she asked sceptically when he'd finished the story.
"Uh, yeah..." Blaine replied. Tina looked furious for some reason that Blaine couldn't fathom, but he was sure he was about to find out.
"Not only do I miss out on arguably the best moment of my life, but I find out that while you were there experiencing it, you get asked for your email address by Kurt Hummel? Why does the world hate me?" she cried dramatically, letting herself tip backwards into the chair. Blaine tried his best to stifle a laugh, but obviously failed if the glare that was being sent his way was anything to go by.
"Yeah, laugh it up. The only reason I'm not murdering you in a jealous rage right now is because you got the email address so he could send me a message. I hope you know that."
"Yeah yeah, whatever. Whose turn is it to cook tonight?" Blaine asked with a fond smile.
"Yours. I don't care who did it last, it's definitely your turn." she told him.
"Alright, fair enough. What do you want? Pasta?"
"Um, yeah that sounds good. Can you make that awesome tomato sauce that you won't give me the recipe for?"
Blaine nodded, heading into the kitchen and ruffling Tina's hair as he walked by. She screeched at him but he could see she wasn't really annoyed by the small smile on her face.
