After he sung his song today, Kurt was so inspired by Blaine's amount of courage. He had never seen Blaine practice what he preached, but he did today, and it was beautiful. Kurt noticed that Blaine had all of his suitcases in the trunk of his car, and he knew that soon his other half would be safe in his arms.
As they exited Highway 18, Blaine grabbed Kurt's hand over the console of the car. As he began to rub circles around the joint connecting his thumb to his hand, Kurt felt goose bumps travel up his spine. This is what he loved about him. Every time they held hands, hugged, kissed, or even looked at each other, Kurt could only feel the stupendous amounts of butterflies in his tummy. Every time he looked into those golden-hazel eyes of Blaine's, his heart melted into a puddle of goo.
Not too many people can say they felt love, they only say that they are in love. Kurt knew that no one could ever be more in love than he and Blaine were. This is what it felt like. Every ounce of being was pushed aside when it came to them two, nothing else in the world mattered except the warmth their bodies shared, or the giggles they had produced. Love was love…love was them.
They pulled up into the funeral home, dressed in their best (they had changed in the McKinley bathroom, due to Kurt's insistence they didn't change in a moving car). When Kurt entered, he was surprised to see how much family had showed up for the wake. Not only was it family, but Kurt also spotted a few Warblers thrown into the mix, as well as a few football players from McKinley.
It was so depressing. Burt had told the priest that he wanted the coffin closed, because he did not know what to expect from Finn. The centerpiece of the large room was an ivory colored casket, surrounded by numerous mourners.
Burt stood adjacent to the coffin, thanking people as they paid their final respects. The room smelled of lavender, and had the most saddening aura, Kurt thinks.
As the funeral drew to a close, Finn had appeared, as expected. Rachel ran up to her love, and squeezed him tightly in an embrace. Their sobs intermingled as they shared kisses of reassurance. Once their moment passed, Finn embraced his step-father and step-brother.
"I am so sorry I've been such a doucebag-"
"-please don't use that term here-," an old woman in her mid-sixties interrupted, but it did not seem to faze the tall teen.
"-and I know that I don't deserve any forgiveness for the pain I have put you two through," he signaled the club, "or what I have put all of you through."
"Its okay, Finn," Burt said, as he placed a large hand on his stepson's shoulder. "I forgive you."
"So do I," Kurt added.
Finn broke down into tears as his eyes drifted towards the coffin. He placed his hands on it as he whispered, "I love you so much, Mom."
Mr. Shuester approached Kurt hesitantly and informed him that the wake would only be for another five minutes, and that the club would now sing Carole's song.
Burt informed everybody of what was going to happen, and the over-populated room settled down. Finn decided to join Kurt and Blaine, along with the New Directions since they knew the song by heart.
"This is for Carole, we will always remember you," Kurt said as the song began.
Rachel:
You're not alone, together we stand. I'll be by your side; you know I'll take your hand.
Kurt: When it gets cold and it feels like the end, there's no place to go, you know I won't give in.
All: No, I won't give in
By this point, everyone started to tear up.
Finn: Keep holding on. Cause you know we'll make it through, we'll make it through
Kurt looked into his brother's eyes as he held his hand.
Kurt: Just stay strong, cause you know I'm here for you, I'm here for you
All: There's nothing you can say, nothing you can do, no other way when it comes to the truth. So, keep holding on. Cause you know we'll make it through, we'll make it through.
Blaine: Hear me when I say when I say I believe.
Mercedes: Nothing's gonna change, gonna change destiny.
Rachel: Whatever's meant to be will work out perfectly
Kurt and Finn: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
All: There's nothing you can say, nothing you can do, no other way when it comes to the truth.
Finn: So, keep holding on.
Kurt: Cause you know we'll make it through, we'll make it through
The two boys embraced in a large hug as the room applauded, over the sound of sobs and tears shared throughout the performance.
Once it ended, Kurt looked into Finn's eyes, "I will always be your brother no matter what happens, do you understand me?"
Finn slowly nodded, and hugged his brother once more, "I'm so sorry."
"I believe you, Finn. I forgive you."
