Kurt got up slowly to see what the clock on Blaine's side table read.
9:45
Kurt sighed, looking down at the man who still had his arms wrapped around him. He took his right hand and ran it through the thick mass of curls on Blaine before leaning down and pressing a gentle kiss to his forehead. He felt his fianc begin to stir and he lied back against the pillows.
He saw Blaine slowly open his eyes with a goofy smile planted on his face as he looked at the gorgeous boy. He giggled lightly before leaning his chin on Kurt's upper chest.
"Good morning, love," Blaine murmured into Kurt's skin.
"Good morning, baby," Kurt responded, lifting Blaine's chin with a finger before leaning down to connect their lips in a sweet and innocent kiss.
"How did you sleep last night?" Kurt asked.
"It was the best sleep I've had in a while," Blaine responded with a smile.
"Good," Kurt said, getting up and hopping out of bed.
"Where are you off to?" Blaine asked, perching himself on his elbow.
"I'm making a surprise breakfast," Kurt yelled as he exited the bedroom door.
Blaine got up so quickly he began to feel dizzy. As soon as the regular blood flow continued through his body, he jogged into the kitchen to see what Kurt had begun to make.
There were eggs out, pancake batter, and the chocolate morsels Blaine began to love so much.
"It's not much of a surprise breakfast when I know what you're making," Blaine smiled, walking over to engulf his fianc in a hug from behind.
"Well, it's kind of hard to make breakfast without ingredients."
"True," Blaine murmured into the expanse of Kurt's neck before he let go to walk into the living area. He turned on the television to see what was on when he finally stumbled upon an old Disney classic- Fantasia. Blaine couldn't remember the last time he had watched that movie, but he didn't want to dwell on the past as the scene where the hippos pivoted in tutus came on.
After what seemed like forever, Kurt plopped down on the couch next to Blaine, plate of chocolate chip pancakes in hand with two forks.
"Sweetie, I know how much you love Disney, but I have to turn on the news," Kurt said, replacing the remote in Blaine's hand with the warm plate of breakfast.
"Aw, Kurt, can't we catch it later?" Blaine asked puppy dog eyes prevalent.
Kurt sighed with a shake of his head, "Sorry, Blainers, I can't afford to keep getting lottery tickets if we aren't going to properly check them."
After he changed the channel to New York's broadcast, he shuffled the little pink paper from his bag on the coffee table.
"…and that, George, is what we call Saturday Night Fever!" the female anchor joked.
"These people suck at joke writing," Blaine pointed out.
"No shit, Sherlock," Kurt snapped with a smile.
Blaine leant in to kiss him when the anchor announced the lottery numbers were being pulled, making him fall face forward on the couch as Kurt stood up to watch the screen.
"The first ball number is five!" the woman announced before placing the ball on the rack.
"Well, I give up," Kurt said.
Kurt flopped back down on the couch next to Blaine, eating the rest of their breakfast along with his companion fast in response to his growling stomach, mostly due to the previous night's events.
After everything was cleared off their plate, Kurt set the glass china on the coffee table and snuggled up closer to his fianc.
Blaine lifted up his hand that wasn't embracing Kurt and brought it to the back of the shorter boy's neck, rubbing the pads of his fingertips into Kurt's chestnut hair. As he pushed himself closer, Blaine inhaled the swirling scents of the strawberry shampoo that was still present in Kurt's hair before sighing contently with a smile.
"…in other New York news, the Ambassador Theatre is holding open auditions for their winter musical RENT…"
Kurt nearly jumped off the couch with excitement, quickly running into the kitchen to retrieve a napkin and a pen as the anchor continued, "Auditions will be held on August 15th from 8 o'clock in the morning until 6 o'clock in the afternoon. Those with callbacks can have the audition process last up to one week after the initial audition day. If you are someone who may be interested, please contact (212) 560- 2187 for an audition spot…"
"BLAINE ANDERSON GRAB THAT PHONE!" Kurt hollered across the room.
After he threw the nearest portable phone to Kurt, who caught it with cat-like reflexes, Blaine sneakily picked up the remote before sitting back on the couch.
"Don't even think about changing the fucking channel, Blaine," Kurt warned.
Blaine threw the remote back on the couch, giving up as he tried to listed in on his beloved's call.
As soon as the phone was secured in the palm of Kurt's hand, he quickly dialed the number he had quickly scribbled on the napkin in front of him. After five agonizing rings, a feminine voice answered the phone, "Hello, this is the Ambassador Theatre. My name is Kelly, how may I help you this morning?"
"Um, hello. My name is Kurt Hummel. I'm calling in regards to your winter musical auditions?"
"Are you looking to try out for RENT?" Kelly asked.
"Yes ma'am," Kurt answered, trying to keep his breathing steady.
"Will you be willing to wait a minute while I transfer your call to Mr. Darnel, the show's producer?"
"Yes!" Kurt said a little too loudly. "Take as long as you'd like."
With a giggle, Kelly continued, "Okay, just a second."
She switched her line off and Broadway tunes from the earlier century began to play while Kurt waited. After waiting for not even a minute, a light male voice, which creepily reminded Kurt of one Sponge Bob, answered, "Hello, Mr. Hummel?"
"Yes, sir?" Kurt asked, perching himself up on the counter biting his fingernail.
"Hello, I'm Chad Darnel; I'm the show's producer. I heard you were interested in auditioning for a part in RENT?" he asked.
"Yes, sir, it would be an absolute honor."
After answering a couple of questions, Kurt hung up the phone with a huge grin.
"Well?" Blaine asked with anticipation as Kurt walked into the living room.
"I have my very first Broadway audition!" Kurt screamed, running into Blaine's arms.
"Oh my God, Kurt, that's wonderful!" Blaine yelled into Kurt's neck.
After holding each other tightly for a moment, they parted and dove into a sweet kiss that seemed to express how proud Blaine was of the young brunette in his arms. They parted and Kurt leaned his forehead so it was resting against Blaine's, who noticed how Kurt's smile was the biggest he had ever seen on him.
"I am so glad you're here with me right now," Kurt whispered before diving back into a kiss, which was more urgent and passionate than the one prior to this.
Reluctantly, Blaine pulled away with a small giggle, "As much as I don't want to end this, I have to get to work, sweetie."
"Damn your boss for making you work on weekends," Kurt muffled into the curly-haired boy's shoulder.
"Well, when I get the job, I promise I'll have weekends off," assured Blaine.
When the both of them discussed moving to New York, they knew they were going to have to get jobs to support each other alongside college. Though Burt covered Kurt's tuition, with help of his son's partial scholarship, to NYADA, Blaine's parents were in a tough spot with their income and had no choice but to file bankruptcy, making them incapable of paying Blaine's way through college.
With that in mind, Blaine knew he would have to take up a job and go to community college because it was cheaper. Whenever Blaine had free time from school, he worked at the local law firm as an assistant to Miss Delory, one of the oldest women who currently worked as a lawyer in the company. After two months of working together, Miss Delory promised Blaine her job once he graduated law school. For the long duration of time between now and his graduation, Blaine would get promotions here and there, and it would pay the bills he and Kurt had to deal with.
Kurt knew that being a lawyer wasn't Blaine's first choice. When he and Blaine were taking career courses offered at Dalton Academy, Blaine professed his love of music and children, and would take classes on teaching.
Though he knew being a music teacher was what Blaine really wanted to pursue in life, whenever Kurt brought the situation up, Blaine would always say that his love of teaching could never measure up to the amount of love he had for Kurt, and that he would do everything in his power to make sure he supported him both financially and emotionally.
So, Blaine would have to settle on working weekends until he got the promotion he had heard about in 2013, a long way away in Blaine's opinion.
"What time do you get off tonight?" Kurt asked, playing with one of the dark curls on the nape of Blaine's neck.
"Miss D said that if I get all of the paperwork done by 3, I can come home at 4," Blaine responded.
"Hurry home, Blainers," Kurt said, smiling at the nick name he had given his fianc. He gave a quick peck to Blaine's lips before Blaine headed to the bathroom to start getting ready.
"I promise," Blaine called out before closing the door.
After he was left alone, Kurt's mind began to race. I have to start practicing!
